Perhaps this should be considered a Reserves match... although David Moyes did select most of the senior players he had on hand during the week, the squad having spent time in Scotland getting back together after the summer break. That is except for the international contingent (Pienaar, Cahill, Howard, Rodwell) who had played on after the end of last season in various international competitions.
Gone too were the various departees: Jacobsen, Castillo, Valente and Van der Meyde... with their young replacements joining up-and-coming youngsters from Everton's impressive Academy, stepping up into the void.
The performance was nothing to write home about but full games for Shane Duffy and Seamus Coleman were of note, with a half for American Anton Peterlin as well.
