The Yellow Submarine returned to a somewhat quieter Goodison Park than when they were last here..
Some bright stuff from both sides early on.
Coleman getting a good ball down the right and running in but not beating the keeper with his chip.
Fellaini gave away a typically clumsy free-kick inside the D that was driven over by Villarreal.
Barkley getting well behind the defence but fluffing his lines with the final ball.
Fantastic (and fair!) last-ditch tackle by Fellaini to save a goal.
Great shot dug out of little by Saha that was tipped around the post.
Coleman was tripped rather poorly by their #5 who was rightly given a good talking to by the Ref. He limped off and was replaced by Tim Cahill just before the break.
It was mostly Villarreal for 20 mins after the break, putting on the pressure, and they nearly got one with a ball to the far post.
Then they did get one with a brilliantly executed free-kick played to the left and fairly hammered just inside the angle by Rossi. It was definitely coming...
Moyes made a handful of changes but Everton were increasingly out-played and out-thought by the better team throughout an increasingly frustrating second half, that flared a little when Beckford clumsily tangled with someone.
Hopefully this will be an almighty kick up the arse for Moyes and the Boys but if they start slow, they can always blame a poor pre-season!
Michael Kenrick
