Disclaimer () Dave Abrahams 1 Posted 03/10/2023 at 20:59:51 Duncan, that goal by Vinicius was very good and Bellingham's was even better. Duncan McDine 2 Posted 03/10/2023 at 21:03:19 Agree Dave. They barely touched the ball for 20 mins, but one flash of brilliance and they're suddenly on top.Was it just some kind of sick dream, or was Carlo once manager of Everton FC? Dale Self 3 Posted 03/10/2023 at 21:17:32 Napoli are heating it up here. Kvartawhatever is cookin'. We should have gone for Rudi Garcoa when we got Frank. It might have ended as a trainwreck but that would have been better than the damp squib we got. Dale Self 4 Posted 03/10/2023 at 21:37:52 That was an Exocet missile! Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 03/10/2023 at 21:41:06 That's an even better third goal by Real Madrid but was it an own goal, coming back off the bar and hitting the goalie, or did it hit the net first then hit the goalie? Rob Halligan 6 Posted 03/10/2023 at 22:07:38 Seems a few posts on the Napoli v Real Madrid game, but did anyone watch Man Utd v Galatasaray? Pickford can take a bit of stick from Everton fans but, believe me, I'd rather him than that clown in goal for Man Utd. A terrible pass out of his own area straight to a Galatasaray player, who was then brought down by Casemiro for a penalty. Casemiro red-carded for two yellows. Penalty was put wide, but the player who missed scored a few minutes later with a delicate chip over Onana, who went down far too early. Onana seems to have a mistake in him every game. £44M for him. Inter Milan must be laughing all the way to the bank. Man Utd now bottom on zero points. Dale Self 7 Posted 03/10/2023 at 22:32:17 Dave, it definitely deflected off a Napoli defender. I think the keeper got a hand to it but it was so strong it went in off the underside of the bar. I only saw the one replay so maybe there was a bounce off the keeper. Decent game but that Napoli back line let them down aside from the opening goal. Paul Morrison 8 Posted 03/10/2023 at 23:30:42 Dale,I was sunk in the Falklands by an Exocet Missile, certain terms still get me twitched... Paul Ferry 9 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:15:10 We can only hope that the skunks get turned over tonight and that their fat thick feckers in the tight-fitting replicas in the stands are waving their scarves in the air singing 'Till I die' after a lesson from PSG as their tears stream down over their man-boobs into the ski-jump humungous gut and the drop into. their plumbers crack sweat filled wrinkly jeans. Rob Halligan 10 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:20:01 Paul, it was said earlier on SSN that many young Newcastle fans have never seen Newcastle play in Europe. I'd counter that, by saying there are many OLD Newcastle fans who have never seen Newcastle win a trophy! Paul Ferry 11 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:26:49 Aye, Rob, bonny lad, would that have been the old Fairs Cup like in 1970 or 1971? But remember Rob, the BBC and everyone else are building things up for the Geordie party when in their minds they win a trophy, and it will be the greatest footy party ever coz they are such. diehards, didn't yer know Danny O’Neill 12 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:27:05 It get's worse. If it was bad enough listening to the latest episode of replay-gate, now they're on the one show being touted as the greenest club in English football, growing flowers and Maura making apple crumble with apples grown in the allotment at their Kirkby (yes Kirkby) training ground. That said, ours is in Halewood.I feel sick. I can see a long build up to the Derby but lets get Bournemouth out of the way first before I start all of my superstitious rituals before we make the journey to our former home. Barry Hesketh 13 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:29:24 Think it was 1969 when Newcastle lifted the Fairs Cup Paul.Everton finished 5th in 1968 but lost the European place due to that nonsensical one city one club rule and also missed out due to losing the FA Cup final to WBA. Newcastle ended that campaign in tenth place to qualify for the Fairs Cup. Rob Halligan 14 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:31:18 Whey Aye man, but yee canna dispute that the fairs cup was a bonny cup to win, mind!! Paul Ferry 15 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:33:27 Cheers Barry, I remember John Tudor from footy cards, Wyn Davies was it? Bobby Moncur. Ian McFaul, between the sticks, I think. Running out of names now. Wasn't there a winger, Barraclough or something, or did he come later. Barry Hesketh 16 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:37:35 Joe Harvey was the manager of Newcastle from 1962 until Gordon Lee took the job in 1975. Barraclough I seem to remember as a player, not sure he managed them but if he did it would have been much later. Paul Ferry 17 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:39:05 'kin hell Rob, you're fluent lad, could it possibly be that you were born at blaydon me laddie Rob Halligan 18 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:39:37 Wasn't Malcolm Macdonald around at that time? Paul Ferry 19 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:39:46 Of course, Lee came fom them Paul Ferry 20 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:40:23 Now you're tookin took royalty. Barry Hesketh 21 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:42:10 Just looking at the side that stopped Everton from scoring in a goalless draw at Goodison in January 1970.W McFaul, D Craig, Frank Clark, T Gibb, J McNamee, Bobby Moncur, B Robson (is that pop Robson?, J Smith Wyn Davies, R Guthrie (Sunderland player in 73 Cup Final?, D Ford. Paul Ferry 22 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:43:09 Whey aye man, here's the bonny laddies who give it ta Ujpesti Dozsa Willie McFaul; David Craig, Frank Clark, Tommy Gibb, Ollie Burton, Bobby Moncur, Jim Scott (Alan Foggon 73), Preben Arentoft, Pop Robson, Wyn Davies, Jackie Sinclair. Barry Hesketh 23 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:44:28 Paul.Alan 'Foggon' the Tyne? Rob Halligan 24 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:44:48 No Malcolm Macdonald then?? Paul Ferry 25 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:45:06 I recognise 4 of them - bonny Frank Clark, Paul Ferry 26 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:46:07 1971-76 Rob Kieran Kinsella 27 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:46:08 Paris St. Germain didn't even exist when Newcastle last won a trophy. They were founded in 1970. Since then PSG have won 46 major trophies to Newcastle's 0. Paul Ferry 28 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:47:57 They finished 10th to get into the Inter Cities Fairs Cup Paul Ferry 29 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:48:49 Major trophy! Friendly games were regularly held between teams from cities holding trade fairs and it was from these games that the competition evolved. The competition was initially only open to teams from cities that hosted trade fairs and where these teams finished in their national league had no relevance. Rob Halligan 30 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:56:36 The last major trophy of note they won, was the FA Cup in 1955. 68 years ago. Barry Hesketh 31 Posted 04/10/2023 at 19:57:49 Manchester United (2nd) qualified for the European Cup as the 1967–68 European Cup winners. Alongside champions Manchester City.Everton (5th) were ineligible to participate in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup as Liverpool(3rd) had already qualified. Under the rules of the cup, only one team per city could participate. Chelsea (6th) took their place as the highest-ranked team that hadn't already qualified for a European competition.West Bromwich Albion (8th) qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup as the 1967-68 FA Cup winners.Arsenal (9th) and Tottenham Hotspur (7th) were ineligible to participate in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup as Chelsea had already qualified. Under the rules of the cup, only one team per city could participate. Newcastle United (10th) took their place as the highest-ranked team that hadn't already qualified for a European competition. Paul Ferry 33 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:00:21 Ya were a wee bairn in ya nappy like Rob. Rob Halligan 34 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:03:22 I was a mere twinkle in me grandparents eyes, Paul. Quite a few years before I arrived on this planet! Kieran Kinsella 35 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:03:37 Rob,Going with 1955 then, a woman named Martha Graham in the US died four years after Newcastle last won a major trophy was actually born in 1844. Meaning she could have gone to the Great Exhibition of 1851 and met Queen Victoria and also watched Newcastle United win their most recent trophy. Andy Crooks 36 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:05:31 Paul, that was a good team. David Craig played for Northern Ireland. I think Iam McFaul got a few caps but was understudy to the mighty Pat Jennings. He went to Newcastle from Linfield for £10,000 which was a king's ransom for and Irish league team.Bobby Moncur looked like my dad and Joe Harvey looked likey granddad. Actually, in those days managers all looked old and wouldn't have been seen dead in a track suit.Stan CullisTony WaddingtonJoe HarveyJoe MercerBob StokoeBill Nicholson.Matt BusbyAh, the good old days, of inside-rights and inside-lefts, right-halves and left-halves and skinny malnourished wingers. Paul Ferry 37 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:05:38 Aye man Rob ya wer no canny bairn warn Toon won cup like man! Paul Ferry 38 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:06:15 I got Man City on TNT and Rotherham on Sky, are the Skunks not on the box? Barry Hesketh 39 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:06:38 Seeing as our current manager is a mini version of Big Sam, should we be chanting Dyche, Dyche, Gravy to the Vanilla Ice tune, at Goodison on Saturday? Paul Ferry 40 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:09:04 With chairman in sheepskins, Andy, and big cigars. Rob Halligan 41 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:12:09 Skunks are on TNT 2. Paul Smith 42 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:15:33 Gordon starting in the Champions League against PSG. Looking like a good move for him. Tbh it smarts. Paul Ferry 43 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:16:10 Cheers, Rob, I'll see if I can get that. Paul Ferry 44 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:18:35 If anyone else wants to watch skunks in 'merica - https://crichdplayer.com/tnt-sports-2-live-stream-uk Kieran Kinsella 47 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:24:14 Remember when Rafa was here and we were linked with a move for Trippier? Then he apparently wanted to sign Longstaff on a free. Everyone was up in arms we needed better players as we were relying on the likes of Anthony Gordon. Barry Hesketh 48 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:30:29 Foden scores for Man City, why Southgate won't play him in the middle for England is a mystery to me. Andy Crooks 49 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:31:43 Lampard to Rangers??? Rob Halligan 50 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:36:05 Kieran, I don't think it was the Longstaff who's playing tonight, Sean, I think it was his brother Matty Longstaff. Could be wrong though. Anthony A Hughes 51 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:36:13 Southgate plays with the handbrake on with his style of football, Barry. Paul Ferry 52 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:36:40 Saw that, Andy, apparently he's dead keen on the job. Paul Hewitt 53 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:36:44 Watching Celtic. Their Japanese players never ever stop running. Wish our players had half their energy. Paul Ferry 54 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:37:23 It was Sean Rob Paul Ferry 55 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:38:08 Finally watching some good footy PH Paul Hewitt 56 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:41:57 To be fair, PF Celtic are playing decent. Rodgers is a good manager. Paul Ferry 57 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:44:03 What a fecking save or was it over, offside wasn't it anyway? Paul Ferry 58 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:44:25 Agree PH Rob Halligan 59 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:44:38 FFS 2-0. Got to say though, how shit are PSG. Anthony A Hughes 60 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:46:06 That Mbappé fella's crap. Paul Ferry 61 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:47:09 Fecking hell - spot on Rob, has Pope touched it? Paul Ferry 62 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:47:34 That was fecking offside! Fecking skunks or was he played on? Danny O’Neill 63 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:53:39 I thought offside to start with, but onside when the ball payed over. Reminded me of the position Dele Alli took up for Richarlison's goal against Palace. Dropped deep late and after the ball was played.Great finish for their first. Rob Halligan 64 Posted 04/10/2023 at 20:53:47 Guimaraes punches a PSG player on the head, and only gets a yellow. At least it looked like a punch. Paul Ferry 65 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:00:24 Whae aye, man, Rob ya jessie like that we nah punch fra Shearer Bruno like it wer a lassie slap Rob wat yer talkin like man. Danny O’Neill 66 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:06:38 That lot get a free pass at the weekend Rob. I'm convinced. Klopp will be fitted with a headset with direct comms to Stockley Park to advise them. Watching PSG, who aside from the Intertoto, I think they have only won the cup winners cup like us in Europe. They may have had great players in recent times, but it shows what playing in Europe's 5th league does. Or the "Farmer's League" as I bait my French friends with.Too easy for them and qualify every year with little effort. Then they meet real competition. Paul Ferry 67 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:09:40 PSG are 5th in the league right now. Paul Ferry 68 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:12:48 City 1-1 Paul Ferry 69 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:16:31 'kin hell Paul Ferry 70 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:16:49 We won't hear the fucking end of this… Paul Hewitt 71 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:18:10 Newcastle will think they're the bees knees now. Anthony A Hughes 72 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:21:04 PSG haven't been the same since Gana left. Rob Halligan 73 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:21:08 PSG want to win the Champions League……well they had their chance a few years ago when they were beaten in the final by Bayern Munich, because right now they are a million miles away from ever getting near to another chance. Tony Abrahams 74 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:22:12 The Saudis are just to strong for The Qataris. Neil Tyrrell 76 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:30:40 Barry @185 got that damn Fog On the Tyne stuck in my head now, I owe you one! Barry Hesketh 78 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:36:42 Sorry Neil :)Lindisfarne:They are best known for the albums Nicely Out of Tune (1970), Fog on the Tyne (1971) (which became the biggest selling UK album in 1972), Dingly Dell (1972) and Back and Fourth (1978), and for the success of songs such as "Meet Me on the Corner", "Lady Eleanor", "Run for Home", "Fog on the Tyne" and "We Can Swing Together".I can remember 4 out of 5 of those songs, but can't remember We can swing together. Neil Tyrrell 79 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:39:52 Turning to the brain bleach to wash that song away, cheers all Paul Ferry 80 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:44:03 Canny tune 'we can swing together', whey aye man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLAwQ9Jtm6Q Barry Hesketh 81 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:44:43 Alvarez scores a great goal, after City dominating but labouring against Leipzig Paul Ferry 82 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:45:02 Wasn't there some sort of shite 'comedy' cover of Fog on the Tyne with pisshead Gascoigne and probably Wadders? Barry Hesketh 83 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:46:59 Link Paul Hewitt 84 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:53:10 FFS Paul Ferry 85 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:55:35 What a sad twat he has turned out to be Paul Ferry 86 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:56:56 Lazio 2-1 90+5 Paul Hewitt 87 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:58:24 Didn't deserve that PF Paul Ferry 88 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:58:38 Gonna wave me scarf like Paul Ferry 89 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:59:26 they played well PH Anthony A Hughes 90 Posted 04/10/2023 at 21:59:36 Enrique out, get Dyche in to shore up that defence. Michael Kenrick 91 Posted 04/10/2023 at 22:05:20 Didn't think Gordon did all that much did he? Was he involved in any of the goals?ps: Hope Rob Halligan isn't too upset after that. I don't think he has any time for them Skunks. Paul Ferry 92 Posted 04/10/2023 at 22:05:29 toon city final? Mike Price 94 Posted 04/10/2023 at 22:44:54 Sickening to think that, if our takeover was run by professionals, we could easily be in Newcastle's position. Eddie Howe was on a free and an Evertonian.Plus we've spent more than them in the transfer market, we just operated as the worst run club in world football. Geoff Lambert 95 Posted 04/10/2023 at 22:45:45 Skunks doing what we can only dream about. Just shows what a proper football board can do for you. Fuck off, Kenwright... Paul Ferry 96 Posted 05/10/2023 at 17:56:13 I still thank God six times a day that I'm not a Geordie Geoff/Mike. Rob Halligan 98 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:15:08 Some confusion in Marseille as to whether Brighton had a penalty or not? Referee sent to the pitch side monitor for a handball by a Marseille player, he seemed to indicate “Penaltyâ€, only for Marseille to get a free kick. Weird, because Marseille had a corner at the time. Seems there was a foul by a Brighton defender in the build-up to the potential penalty. I give up with VAR… it's bloody useless. Barry Hesketh 99 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:19:48 Rob @260It seems to protect only the chosen few clubs, I dislike this looking at the build-up to an incident rather than the incident in isolation. If somebody gets pushed on the half-way line and the official missed it, and somebody goes on to score a goal, a few moves later, it should be a given as a goal. How far back should they go? Anyway it's all good preparation for Brighton and their game on Sunday, they might find a few weird decisions being made. Rob Halligan 100 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:22:50 Barry, don't forget there are an extra 14K seats at BMD. I did enquire as to whether anyone who was thinking of getting a season ticket behind either goal, could use the bars / pubs which will be located in the east and west stands? Unfortunately you can't, you need to buy the package which includes your season ticket. I currently sit in the upper Gwladys street, and was thinking of getting a ticket in the south stand, but if I want to use the bars etc, I will need to get a ticket in the east or west stand. Phil (Kelsall) Roberts 101 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:22:51 Barry it was their first album and all about getting busted for doing wacky backy.Fog on the Tyne live usually went on for about 20 minutes. Dale Self 102 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:23:33 Additional issues in the Athens v Ajax match where the taker of a penalty is shown to have a mostly green face from all the lasers from the Athens crowd. Time for that to bw addressed, sickening behavior. 0-1 Ajax. Barry Hesketh 103 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:30:31 Rob @ 262I get the fact that there'll be extra seats available in the new place, but we currently have circa 30k season ticket holders - I'm guessing a bit, plus allegedly a figure between 10k and 20k depending upon where you take the information from. What facilities would be available in the South Stand then, something similar to those available in the Park End? Rob Halligan 104 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:39:02 I should imagine so, Barry. Some of the images showing the bars / pubs in BMD look really impressive as well. I've no idea on prices though. Brent Stephens 105 Posted 05/10/2023 at 18:42:14 Rob #262 "I did enquire as to whether anyone who was thinking of getting a season ticket behind either goal, could use the bars / pubs which will be located in the east and west stands?
