Luton Town 1 - 1 Everton

I had the comfort of not having to leave too early due to Luton not being too far away for me and the late kick-off time. I did feel for those Merseyside Evertonians making the journey down and god knows what time they got home. No consideration for the supporters with the scheduling of fixtures, but it’s become expected.

Without being disrespectful, Luton is not a nice town, to be honest. I got to the station and there was a pub opposite, so I headed there. The usual “home supporters only”, but I tried my chances. The doormen checked my ticket, spoke to me and were in no doubt which side I was on. They smiled and let me in.

A strange place. Considering it was match day, not many Luton supporters in there and most were playing pool and they had snooker on the tele. I thought they might have at least put Sky Sports on.

I headed off and found a nice place called the Sugar Loaf. Lots of Luton supporters in there and some healthy banter. They were intrigued with me! I’m not sure why, I am just a football supporter like them.

Off to the ground and I met Neil. He had travelled down without a ticket. I couldn’t have that, so insisted he took mine. I now know Neil well and he would return the favour. I’m glad he got into the ground after putting in those miles.

For me, back to the station. I eventually got back to one of my locals to catch the second half. I have to admit, I’m more and more uncomfortable watching on the tele than in the ground. I don’t know how some of you do it. And those who listen on the radio, I had to give that up decades ago, as the nerves couldn’t handle it. I have to see, thinking I can somehow control it!

From what I watched, it wasn’t pleasant. A poor performance from both teams. But the pink Echo lady would have been showing a point. I don’t have a lot to say about the match as it was pretty dour from what I watched.

Branthwaite again was good. Tarkowski showing his usual leadership. Idrissa his usual self. Pickford was good in collecting the ball. And Ben Godfrey seems to be coming back into it. You can't knock his effort and determination. It’s different to judge when you’re not there.

I hope all the travelling supporters got home safely. I had my sister checking up on me. She worries about me when I travel to see Everton even though I’ve been following them all of my life!

Sheffield United next and on to 40 points. The appeal may give us back 2 more. I know he has his critics, but the manager deserves respect for shielding the team from the circus and keeping them focused on the only thing they can affect.

And then the Emirates on the last day. We are due one there.

Why didn’t we wear blue?
