Season › 2023-24 › News Danjuma plays but Everton U21s lose to Blackburn Rovers Michael Kenrick 12/04/2024 8comments | Jump to last Everton U21s 2 - 3 Blackburn Rovers U21s Arnaut Danjuma played the full game but could do little to help Everton U21s overcome a determined Blackburn Rovers side in Southport tonight. The youngsters huffed and puffed without creating much threat, but allowing the visitors to get stronger and stronger until they walked the ball into the Everton net for the first goal. But Everton responded in fine style, Tyler Onyango putting in a great run down the right side and cutting inside to feed Charlie Whitaker who smashed it into the roof of the net to make it 1-1 at the break. But the Rovers continued to look dangerous and drilled home a second goal after the hour mark. Everton tried to respond but Metcalfe's driven free-kick was parried away. Jack Tierney came on for his first appearance of the season, presumably after being out with a serious injury for many months. But a poor clearance from Welch was volleyed into the top corner for Blackburne to take all the points, with Arnaut Danjuma playing the full 90 minutes. Everton U21s: Barnsley, Dixon, John (84' Tierney), Welch [Y:67'], Onyango (66' Jones), Metcalfe [Y:41'], Whitaker (66' Beaumont-Clark), Armstrong, Kouyate, Danjuma, Djankpata [Y:24'] (90+1' Bates). Subs not Used: G Pickford. Reader Comments (8) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Comments are the responsibility of the poster. Then again, Mackenzie Hunt, Issac Heath and Francis Okoronkwo all missing this evening… but I don't think we'll be seeing many of them at Stamford Bridge on Monday. Brent Stephens 2 Posted 12/04/2024 at 19:16:34 Good size crowd here at what's probably going to be our new ground for the first team if things carry on as they are. Michael Kenrick 3 Posted 12/04/2024 at 19:38:40 The Lancs had been coming on stronger and stronger, just walked that into the net.0 - 1 But an immediate response, great run forward by Onyango and feed to Whitaker who smashed it into the roof of the net.1 - 1 Brent Stephens 4 Posted 12/04/2024 at 19:42:15 Their 7 is giving John a hard time. Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 13/04/2024 at 10:09:32 Brent (4), I only watched the last 15 minutes and it seemed to me that the crowd were suffering most looking at some of the performances from those players.Blackburn's last goal was a disgrace starting with the clearance from the defender which resulted in Blackburn getting a corner. They scored from that after another comedy of errors by a poor defence including the keeper who I think is being coached by Pickford on how to stay glued to his goal line! Brent Stephens 6 Posted 13/04/2024 at 10:27:23 Dave, I had to leave about 15 minutes into the second half (the football would have driven me out anyway), so I didn't see the last 15 minutes – a wise decision for me to go?! Early days and all that, and I've only seen the number 8 Harrison Armstrong for the first time last night, but I thought he looked very composed (reminded me a bit of Sheedy? Any thoughts on him Dave? Armstrong not Sheedy!)?Their number 7 (Leo Duru?) out on the right was good, giving John a hard time. Dave Abrahams 7 Posted 13/04/2024 at 11:40:11 Brent (6), That was the first time I've seen Armstrong, so I'll have to wait to see him a few times before I'd have an opinion on him.Well done for going to the game ! I'd find it hard going to watch these Academy games even if they were played at Goodison Park. I've been going to games since the FA Youth Cup competition was introduced in the mid-fifties and one of the first games was between Everton and Man Utd with Derek Temple scoring two goals for us in a 2-2 draw and Duncan Edwards standing out for them as a 16-year old. Man Utd trounced us 5-2 in the replay with Temple scoring again. Dave Williams 8 Posted 14/04/2024 at 11:52:46 Did Onyango play at CB again?
