Dyche eyeing Cornet reunion

| 30/08/2023 9comments  |  Jump to last

Maxwel Cornet has reportedly been added to Everton's shopping list ahead of the transfer deadline, with any possible move giving Sean Dyche the chance to link back up with the man he signed for Burnley.

The Ivorian winger joined the Clarets from Lyon in 2021 but couldn't prevent them from going down to the Championship that season.

He was linked with Everton a year ago but joined West Ham instead in a £17m deal and played 22 times for the Hammers last season, without adding to his tally of 9 Premier League goals.

Cornet could be surplus to requirements at the London Stadium now that David Moyes has been adding to his squad and, according to Sport Mail, The Mirror and now the The Telegraph, Everton are interested as they seek to add depth in the wide positions.

It was thought that if the interest is geuine, Kevin Thelwell will be looking at a season-long loan for Cornet but it appears as though either a temporary or a permanent deal is under consideration.

Cornering the market in left sided wingers. Just buy someone for the right, it can't be that hard...

Not had a decent right winger since Kanchelskis.

He also play LB and would probably be an upgrade on what we have, so could be worth a punt for the right fee.

Cornet played inside the winger position for Burnley and was a rather effective advanced outlet for them. It could have been the late season adjustment to it or teams underestimating Cornet but he had success cutting into the final third. Even showed some cutting-edge ambition when he got there. This is another very good option for us. I'm not sure he has the vision to play a 10 but he has all the other requisite features of a possession attacker

If he's allowed to bring a silver hammer with him, we should give him a go...

I agree with Neil #4. This is an absolute no go!!

We need players who will add to the quality we have. We do not need players who are cast-offs of teams that will be mid-table at most. If he cannot even make The Hammers' first 11, what on earth is he going to bring to our squad?

Go for Sulemana from the Saints. A much better option and a possible first-team player. Not a bench warmer at best.

He was injured on 1 October 2022 – calf injury. Missed the next 17 games. He then played 148 minutes over the rest of the season due to the calf not responding to treatment, despite being sent to see a specialist, who diagnosed a rare form of injury. Prior to the injury he played 86 minutes over 5 games.

This season, he has been on the bench for all 3 Premier League games and has played 1 minute. There was talk he needed surgery on the calf but unsure if this has happened.

When he was at Burnley under Dyche, he played 26 Premier League games with 9 goals and 1 assist, which is why West Ham bought him, as Burnley we're relegated – Dyche had been sacked before the relegation. Prior to the injury, he was a first pick for the Ivory Coast.

His career stats RW/LW 81 games, 42 goals, 27 assists. He has also played LB, CF, LM / RM / AM and as a Second Striker. 111 games, 17 goals, 13 assists. He's a threat wherever he plays. However, if his calf is not up to it, we would have to say no.

So West Ham get the player – Kudus – we would have had a year ago but Ajax blocked it because they'd sold enough in that window already, and we get West Ham's injured cast off?

Sounds about right…
