Everton Under-21s defender Reece Welch will spend the season on loan with second-tier Belgian side KMSK Deinze in the Challenger Pro League.

The young defender is the latest of the Blues' academy players to be farmed out on loan to get more regular playing time.

Having made a couple of senior appearances for Everton against Boreham Wood and Fleetwood Town, he spent part of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers.

Good on him. Not sure of the quality of 2nd Tier football in Belgium but a brilliant life experience.

I think more British youngsters (not just footballers) should do this sort of thing.

Hopefully Reece does well, improves his game and learns from it all.

Interesting that such switches can still be made post-Brexit, with presumably minimum fuss?

Or does he need a work permit, passport... fingerprints and retinal scan for biometric ID?

Maybe Belgium should take back control Michael?

Yea, populist rejection of the EU!

Seems TransferMarkt rate Welch as being worth all of a grand €700k. Pretty frugal in today's world of multi-million pound players.
