EVERTON SEASON DIARY

29th: A very disapointing performance by Everton at home to
Tottenham Hotspur, when Les Ferdinand (yet again!)
expoilts the poor Everton defence to secure a 1-0 win.

28th: Graham Allen
has joined Tranmere Rovers on a month's loan.
-
27th: Everton are drawn away to Huddersfield Town in the 2nd
Round (1st Leg) of the Worthington Cup.

26th: Joe Parkinson's return is still a long way off: he has
more surgery set for December, and hopes to start light trianing next March.

25th: Everton announce an operating profit of just under £1M,
turning around a loss of £2.89M from the previous season. The
Reserves mark up a 2-0 win away at Nottingham
Forest, with Phil Jevons scoring both goals.

23rd: Richard Dunne is on crutches with a foot injury,
and Danny Williamson faces an extended period of recouperation after an operation
on his injured foot.

22nd: Early-season promise evaporates in the heat of Filbert
St, as Everton are shreded by a stunning 1st-half surge from
Leicester City, with Tony Cottee opening the
scoring in an easy 2-0 win.

21st: Walter Smith's much publicized campaign to sign Mario Stanic
falls through when Parma refuse to release him, despite a £4.5M bid.
Former Everton championship winner Alan Harper has returned to Goodison
and will help Colin Harvey coach the club's youngsters.

20th: The saga of prodigal son,
David Unsworth, finally
ends as Peter Johnson finds some extra fat in the farcically protracted
wranglings with Aston Villa.
Slaven Bilic is out
for a few weeks with his troublesome thigh strain.

19th: Young goalkeeper,
John O'Toole, has gone on loan
to non-league Barrow-in-Furness.

18th: Mickael Madar
gets a 3-match suspension for his red-card indiscretion at the pre-season
"friendly" against Fortuna Sittard. The
Reserves are in action at home to Derby County,
the match ending in a 1-1 draw with a goal from
Gavin McCann.

17th: Unsworth makes a reluctant debut for Aston Villa reserves
as his move to Everton is still in limbo... Neville Southall moves
on to Doncaster Rovers.

16th: Chris Woods,
the goalkeeping coach, is registered as a player to provide cover for Thomas
Myhre and Paul Gerrard.

15th: The new season kicks off at Goodison Park with a disappointing
0-0 draw against Aston Villa the new star
John Collins missing a penalty after just 8 mins. David Unsworth is ironically
suspended for this match, along with Francis Jeffers.

14th: Both Slaven Bilic (groin strain) and Tony Grant (minor
knee op) are likely to miss tomorrow's season opener.

13th: Slaven Bilic revealed that he turned down lucrative offers
from Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus, to stay at Everton, where he
is impressed with the influx of new blood.

12th: There is heavy speculation that Mario Stanic will join his Croatian
teammate at Everton.

11th: The Unsworth saga takes another twist as he returns to
train with Aston Villa.

8th: In their last pre-season "friendly", Everton suffer an acrimonious
0-2 defeat at Fortuna Sittard, with Mickael
Madar being sent off!

7th: Everton are slapped with a fine of £50,000 (suspended for
one season), for last season's bad-boys'
indiscretions which led to the Premiership's highest number of yellow and
red cards, breaching FA rules!

6th: The fiasco of David Unsworth's transfer back to Goodison has
become stalled, perhaps by Peter Johnson's reluctance to match Aston
Villa's pass-on deal

5th: Everton played out a 0-0 draw against Belgian 1st Division
side, St Triuden. Many papers are running
with a story that Everton have agreed a fee of £3.5M for Steve Simonsen,
the 19-year-old goalkeeping sensation at Prenton Park.

4th: Michael Ball
has been included in the England U-21 squad which assembles for a 3-day
get-together later this month.

2nd: Everton win the first 45-min game 2-0 against
Español in a mini-Tournament to celebrate
the centenary of Standard Liège. They then draw 0-0 with hosts,
Standard Liège, and lose the penalty
shoot-out. However, they win the
Tournoi de Gala trophy on goal difference!

1st: Everton crash 1-3 to AZ
Alkmaar in the first match of their Holland-Belgium pre-season tour.
