Local Lad, John O'Toole was once another up-and-coming product of Everton's
Youth System. O'Toole joined the YTS in 1995 (along with
Michael Branch). He went to school in Crosby
before going to the FA National School at Lilleshall. He represented Sefton
Boys and Merseyside, winning 11 caps for England at U-15 and U-16 level.
John O'Toole was a regular in the U-18 'B'-Team during the 1996-97 season, and spent the next season looking to move up to the Reserves unless the senior keepers (Neville Southall and Paul Gerrard) need match practice. But being third in line to the Southall jersey meant he was unlikely to see first-team action for Everton. The arrival of Thomas Myhre in November 1997 was a further nail on John O'Toole's first-team coffin. When he was released at the end of the 1997-98 season, he had not played a senior match for Everton, although was named as substitute goalie for 4 senior matches.
