March 1999 Marco Materazzi
February 1999 Nick Barmby
January 1999 Don Hutchison
December 1998 Ibrahima Bakayoko
November 1998 Don Hutchison
October 1998 Duncan Ferguson
September 1998 Marco Materazzi
August 1998 Olivier Dacourt

 APRIL 1999

Everton Player of the Month: Kevin Campbell

There is no disputing this month's selection: Kevin Campbell's six goals in three vital wins for Everton have all but secured Premiership status for another season, as the Everton Football Club struggle desperately to sort themselves out behind the scenes. Campbell was also voted FA Carling Player of the Month, the first time an on-loan player has been so honoured, and the the first time since,.. er... Andrei Kanchelskis (?) that it has gone to an Everton player.

 MARCH 1999

Everton Player of the Month: Marco Materazzi

The young Italian has again caught the eye, even though there was plenty of March Madness in the Everton defence, which crumbled badly on a couple of key occasions. Still, Marco is something special – head and shoulders above Rio Ferdinand – but don't go telling anyone or he really will be leaving come the summer.

 FEBRUARY 1999

Everton Player of the Month: Nick Barmby

Nick Barmby is back from another layoff, but playing better than ever, and scoring three vital goals. He continues to run tirelessly, working immensely hard to change around Everton's fortunes up front.

 JANUARY 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Don Hutchison

The Hutch is simply getting better and better. He's taken on the captain's armband when Waggy is not fit, and he has become a fine example to the younger players. His role as a midfield general is a vital building block for the future of the team, but everyone knows there is still a long way to go

 DECEMBER 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Ibrahima Bakayoko

The new boy from the Ivory Coast wasn't really that great, but he did score 2 goals in three games – 2 of only 3 goals scored by Everton in this extremely barren month. So we take this as a sign that things are starting to happen for the dribbling dervish from deepest West Africa.

 NOVEMBER 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Don Hutchison

Made team captain in Dave Watson's absence through injury, and how well he has deserved this role. As John Collins struggles on with has nagging foot injury, The Hutch has taken command of the midfield

 OCTOBER 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Duncan Ferguson

Three goals inside of month! That is fantastic form for Big Dunc, who is terrorising defences throughout the land, and generally proving what a tremendous asset he is... er, was to the the team.

 SEPTEMBER 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Marco Materazzi

The young Italian has been a model of skill and composure, shoring up the defence under guidance from Dave Watson, and rounding this off with a vital goal against Huddersfield in the Worthington League Cup.

 AUGUST 1998

Everton Player of the Month: Olivier Dacourt

Olivier Dacourt was given the low-down on life in the Premiership by his friend at Arsenal, Patrick Vieira. An overly physical start to the season has started to get Ollie in trouble with finicky referees, in much the same way as his Gunner friend. But the effort, commitment and skill shown by Dacourt has been a revelation for the Goodison faithful.
