    Sept 27: Everton beat Liverpool
    1-0 with an early goal from Kevin Campbell in tonight's fiercely contested
    derby game, which saw Francis Jeffers and two Liverpool players sent off.
    Also, Everton are giving a week's trial to Swiss midfielder Antonio Esposito.
    The 26-year-old is out of contract at his current club Extramedura and, because
    he holds an Italian passport, he will not require a work permit.

    since he fractured a bone in his leg, while on duty with his country.

    a yellow card for taking a free-kick too quickly, and he will now miss Scotland's
    next critical match v Bosnia. Weir and Collins also played, with Gemmill
    on the bench. Everton's Shareholders Association have formally called for
    an extraordinary general meeting of the company to supposedly put Johnson
    on the spot, assuming he actually makes an appearance. However, the meeting
    will not take place for another 6 to 8 weeks. Francis Jeffers is a doubt
    for Saturday's match at Hillsborough, after he withdrew from the England

    Wilkinson learns a hard lesson: he drops both Micheal Ball and Francis Jeffers
    from the England U-21 squad, and losses a unique 100% record as they lose
    3-1 to Poland. Richard Dunne also missed the Ireland U-21 match, due to an
    automatic suspension.

      slapped wrists after they were five hours late reporting back to camp
      following a night of sin and debauchery at a local casino.
      Slaven Bilic, who recovered
      full fitness during the close season, is hoping for talks with Walter Smith
      later this week to re-assess Everton's decision to consign him to the
      footballers' scrapheap. After appearing for Croatia he says he wants to play

    in Croatia's 1-0 win over Ireland in Zagreb tonight. So he's obviously fit
     just rejected by our Wally while he continues to draw his wages...
     Mark Pembridge played his part in a key Welsh victory, 2-1 in Belarus.
    Everton's players were also pivotal in the 2-1 win Scotland secured over
    Belarus. Weir, Collins, and Hutchison started, with Scot Gemmill on the bench,
    and Hutch scoring the opener following good work from Collins.
    In the FA Premier Youth Academy League, Everton's
    Under-19s were held to a 1-1 draw today at Barnsley.

    Sept 3: Although Bill Kenwright has secured £30M in finance
    and made his bid  thanks in part to Spurs fan Peter Green  Peter
    Johnson is refusing to acknowledge Kenwright's bid, and apparently has no
    intention of selling Everton to him. Everton have secured the transfer of
    Abel Xavier, the 26-year-old
    Portuguese International who plays either in defence or midfield, for £1.5M
    from PSV Eindhoven. Michael Ball and Francis Jeffers both started for England
    U-21s v Luxembourg tonight, where Franny scored the second of 5 English goals.
    Richard Dunne blotted his
    copybook again for the Irish U-21 side as they crashed 5-1 to Croatia in
    Zagreb tonight. Dunne was sent off for hacking down a Croat as he headed
    for goal, 3 mins before half-time.

    Sept 1: Tony Grant
    has gone out on loan to Tranmere Rovers until 4 October, with full approval
    of the relevant authorities.  Transfer-listed striker Michael Branch is facing
