Good point from Gerry re Anichebe selection - there must be a good reason he isn’t starting with Donovan.

Also thought Billy might’ve got a start with Cahill on the bench - I always worry about a player starting a game fresh out of the treatment room....

We need a good game from Jonny today - they’ve been strong at home this season but we could take this today I think.

Started a bit slow then really got on top. Scored 2 good goals but gave a poor one away. 3 things iv really noticed, 1st even though he scored, my bird would of scored it, the yak has done nothing. He’s not holding the ball up and keeps giving it a
away. 2nd cahills not been in the match. 3rd when Neville gets the ball it’s either a aimless hoof or were in a good position and the prick passes it back to the centre halfs. I sometimes wonder if moyes watches the same game as me? Certain players are un touchable?

A great opening 25 minutes or so, but then Brum certainly came back at us. Vics goal was a fucking peach, good on him for a clever turn and unstoppable drive.

A good match to watch, but Brum were too much in the game for my liking towards the end of the first half. We need to get Arteta on the ball more. We started playing the ball around a bit too much, and it ended up with our full backs who ended up playing long to clear. Heitinga needs to make himself a bit more available for the players at the back. Its almost as if the ball is played back, all the players move forward for the long ball. We should cut this out, and show more availability for the defence.

Its hard to call the second half, but I think Donovan will be on as Vic looked to have taken an ankle knock. A pity, as he was giving Ridgewell hell on the right. Arteta is still sensational in that position, he seems to have lost nothing, which is a credit to those who kept him in shape during his time out. I’d like to see us go for it, but I suspect Moyes will ask for a more cautious approach, as Brum look decent going forward.

Interesting poser for Moyes now. Does he do what he’s always done in the past and send them out to hang on to the lead, or does he begin to trust the attacking skills of the players out there and really go for it? History tells me what I think he’ll do...but I’m hoping I’ll be proved wrong.

Half-time score is a decent enough reflection for me - both teams opened pretty quiet, then we got out of neutral and suddenly looked rather impressive.
Credit to Brum where it’s due - we’d have all been proud of that comeback if the tables were turned.
That said - why on earth we didn’t get right back into ’em when they scored? Its sound logic when you go 1-0 down and IMO its sound logic when you deplete an early 2 goal lead.

So, either that was not the consensus on the field or, worst case - it was the message from the bench to drop deep.

Overall though - very happy so far. business as usual for Jags, Vik showing promise in advanced positions but worrying when deeper in the field.

Criticism goes to Neville (off the pace and should’ve picked the team up after the brum goal), and surprisingly - Heitinga, a couple of times in that half he looked like he’d been on the razzle last night!

Landon, Billy and Rodwell could all undo this lot - and for gods sake give Seamus a run out - reckon he could be a...

It’s not as if their team is full of over rated jack the lad bad attitude type players who couldn’t hack it at big clubs or anything and there’s no likelihood of them doing a Portsmouth as they have such a huge fanbase which will mean they don’t spend beyond their means.

anyone tell me what the rules say about blocking an early-taken free kick? Was the foul/YC because yakubu deliberately blocked the free kick?

Cheers chaps... and lets have a bloody substitution. Those responsible for the mindset of our 11 right now are not doing their jobs very well today - I always thought neville a decent captain but this is not good enough (wrt to our ’will to win’ - not really the play)

Great first half hour- we seem to have gone to pieces since their first goal. At last the sub- Yak has done nothing apart from the goal, would also get Cahill off quicksharp

Gosling wasnt a hero against Utd, the ball hit him and went in - I couldve scored that one Brian!

He’s a shocking player.

To be fair today, Brum are a decent side - their league position says that and they’ve given most teams a tough game this season so going there and getting a draw aint a bad result.

Sure its a shame going 2 up and drawing, but thats football eh. Don’t beat yerselves up about it.

The reason I am so upset about it Sean, is that Villa dropped 2 points today against Stoke. A win today would have seen us a point behind them, and 4 points off the shite. Birmingham looked to have more desire in the 2nd half than us, thats what pisses me off. Its useless to move on in technical ability, unless you maintain the same level of battling and desire when you are up against a tough team where you have to grind out a win.

There were far too many Jagielka route one balls today, and that is not a dig at him. It was all he could do in that position as his midfield runs forward when its knocked back, instead of supporting him, and dragging the opposition out a bit more. A point is not bad by any means, but I think we are a better footballing side than what we showed over ninety minutes. We need to evolve, and show a different tactic when we are getting pressed. As up to now when teams try and stifle us rather than playing themselves, its working a treat.
