Need an Proppa Interruptor

Jonny Heitinga (via an Interpreter?) was quoted as saying:
"Royston made it very difficult for himself. Moyes isn't a hard coach to get along with, he had more than enough patience with him. I´m not going into details here, that´s something for the respective parties to do, if they feel like it. It´s a shame how it all went though. Royston is a very gifted player. I hope he´ll be able to find a good club this summer, so he can get the best out of his career. I really wish him the best of luck. I tried to talk with him while he was at Everton, but in the end it has to come from the player himself. I advised him to focus on the left back spot at Oranje. Not at Everton though, because Leighton Baines is without doubt the best left back I´ve ever played with. I hope he stays at the club, but I understand there´s interest elsewhere".
Well, I am a bit confused here ? I know that we all have issues with Moysie playing players out of position ? but Drenthe as a left back? No wonder there were issues with his stay if he (and Jonny) really were expecting RR to play at left back!!!

Everyone knows he's a left back ? or should.
I presume the Oranje don't have a particularly good LB, but do have wingers, I suppose?
The rest? The boy was obviously a fool.
Really? You can't understand what he said? He clearly said he has told him to focus on left back for Holland, NOT AT EVERTON, because Baines is the best left back he's ever played with. How did you read that and get the opposite interpretation? And he clearly says that Royston's issues were of his own making, that Moyes is very easy to get along with. Nobody was telling him they wanted him at left back at Everton, actually the opposite. Try reading it again.
Holland are a top class international team - what sort of stupid advice is it from Heitinga to say Drenthe should become a full back for the national team when he has never played there? Shows poor Jonny has nothing between the ears.
Actually I'm sure Drenthe started out as a full back. I agree, he isn't one but it's not alien to him.
Drenthe played at LB a lot with the U21s. Gifted player but obviously a total idiot. Ruined his career, everywhere he has been has ended in disgrace.
Mick Drenthe has played at left back sporadically throughout his career.
It's not that stupid Mick. Drenthe has played full back before and if the stats that Stephen Kenny posted are to be believed, Drenthe was the best tackler at the club last season.
Wheres Jimmy when you need him ?
Drenthe said when he joined EFC that he could play left back... I definitely recall that in an interview in English. I think the part about "hoping he stays" will be lost in translation.
John, I also think lost in translation was - "I won't turn up pissed for training, I won't piss the boss off, I won't bring all my baggage with me, I will grab this opportunity given to me (again) with both hands, I will prove everything said about me so far has got me all wrong" etc, etc
Maybe it's in the way it's translated but the comments that concern me come at the end of the piece. Heitinga says: "... Leighton Baines is without doubt the best left back I´ve ever played with." Before finishing: " I hope he stays at the club, but I understand there´s interest elsewhere." My concern is as to whether that last comment is with regard to Baines rather than Drenthe.
David Barks - I see you Bite too!
Dennis, being exiled in the North East I don't know how much connection Ratcliffe has with the inner workings of the club, but when listening to him last week on Baines, he was talking about him very much in the past tense, as though he's already gone, hope I'm wrong on how I read it.
Mick @ 922,
Holland have Afellay, Robben, Van der Vaart, van Persie and Kuyt who can all play wide in a 4-3-3 (their preferred system) i.e. there's a lot of competition there.
Drenthe has played left back before. Holland's problem position is left back and has been for some time. In fact they are likely to start Euro 2012 with an 18 year old who is second choice at PSV to their regular left back, who is out injured.
Heitinga telling him to knuckle down and focus on getting in the national squad, where he is more likely to get picked at left back than on the wing, seems decent advice.
Your comments however, seem ill informed at best and if I had to say someone has nothing between the ears based on their comments, it wouldn't be Johnny.
Drenthe had a period of playing full back at Madrid for 12-18 months before he started acting up.
You know he's a wanker when his own countryman is commenting on his lack of discipline.
I'd agree with Noel's comments and others. I would also add, a complimentary piece on our club from JH whilst highlighting his compatriots foolhardiness - the fact that he doesn't divulge anything else is to his credit.
Problem I see with his advice is that Drenthe lacks the discipline for a LB, we all remember Johnny berating him for not covering back - imagine if that was his main role, he'd forever be AWOL.
Drenthe is a great talent, but he needs to grow up. I hoped he would be able to do it here, but his heart was never in it as Johnny says. That is really too bad, for him and for us.
He was a liability on the wing, imagine how many times he'd fuck up and cost the team goals if he was playing at left back.
Royston is past tense , Moyes didn't keep him , we dont have another AVM . great. Heitingas comments sound ok to me , end of move on.
It's not a matter of left back or left mid or playing in the hole. It's total football. Ironically which is what is expected of Moyes' players, square pegs in round holes.
David Moyes can be accused of a lot of things, but one thing he has done brilliantly is engendering the team spirit. In these social media-driven days, when Rio Ferdinand gets his PR team to bitch about his exclusion from the national squad, isn't it even slightly refreshing to not have that embarrassment from our players?
I know Johnny H has been misquoted a few times, but nowhere in that statement did he suggest that Royston was asked to play left back at Everton! Perish the thought - he gave away enough goals as a midfielder.
(And yes I know he was good in patches, scored a couple of crackers, but I still think he wasn't, isn't, and never will be half the player some on here think).
Matt you mean to say the players aren't embarassed of spouting crap on behalf of kenwright or Pip's battle crys, or you're not embarassed by it?
Jason, it's part of the price you pay for 24/7 (sorry to use that phrase) media coverage.
A lot of players for other clubs also talk shite. Some people buy it, some don't. The world keeps turning.
My new favourite was Stevie Me Laa saying how he was consulted during their managerial recruitment process. Fuck me sideways over a long hot barge pole. I hope we don't ever get to that stage. They're employees. Highly paid, but employees nonetheless.
When was the last time any of us had a say in who was employed to be your boss?
Wait, did I see Jimmy Sorheim on this thread admitting that maybe Drenthe shouldn't stay at Everton??! Miracles do exist!
So what exactly was lost in translation? I thought it made perfect sense?
I think he was talking about Baines when he said, "I hope he stays".
