Media speculation turns back to Fellaini

06/06/2012 | Comments (37)
Chelsea are looking to take their summer spending to the £100m mark with a move for Marouane Fellaini, claim The Mirror.

The report suggests that the Belgian beast could be available for £20m, although with 4 years left on his contract and his value to Everton almost incalculable, it's unthinkable that the 24-year-old would be sold for less than £25m unless Fellaini himself pushed for a move.

The ex-Standard Liege man is thought to have a £24m release clause in the new deal he signed last autumn.

I can see why they would want him. A pretty impressive new team being assembled.

Funny, guys are being paid a fine wage to print stuff we recognize for nonsense and ridicule daily here in a discussion board.

Thank God a couple weeks respite starting friday.

Mark, after working with quite a few season ticket holders at Old Trafford for the past 6months I'm led to believe Carrick was superb last season and is still seen as a vital member to the squad (if not the starting XI), cant really see the Baines thing happening to be honest. Evras only 4years older than Baines, club captain, a valued member of the first team and its not like he's getting the back torn out of him week in, week out. Alot of lazy journos thinking we have to sell anyone at any price.............in saying that, we'll probably sell Baines, Fellaini and Jelavic on the last day of the transfer window and bring in Cameron Jerome on loan as a replacement for all 3!!

Unfortunately, I can see both transfers taking place this summer and will be very disappointed if they do.

I my opinion we should be looking for around 25 million for the big fella and 15 million for the little fella and this amount of money cannot be sniffed at.

We do have Distin to cover Baines though but that will only be for one more season...two at the most and it might give Piennar second thoughts, and although I dont think Rodwell can lace Felli's boots we do have him to replace him.

Out of the 4 full seasons we have had Fellaini only the first one and this one just ended as he played more than 30 league games for us(30&34), and his goalscoring is not the most impressive, so maybe if we can get the right fees it would be worth it but surely then Mr Moyes would be given half of the funds, I dont know I am really unsure if it is a bad thing or not.

No-one is irreplaceable but fellaini is undoubtedly a key, key player and if we sell him and baines we would be losing 2 of our most effective assets.

I believe moyes values big fella as one of if not the most important squad players and would not be happy to see him leave. As such I reckon it would take upward of 25m to get him. The big question would be who would replace him?

James, it's all well and good coming out with the silly season shouts and bullshit paper selling stories, but every so called bullshit silly season talk always ends with one of our big players leaving after a silly season of the press telling us they could be leaving and get it in your head Baines or Fellaini will be sold,in fact the only reason Fellaini has not been sold sooner in one of these silly seasons is for the last two he has been recovering from injury.

We paid 16 for Felli when he was a kid who had not beeen tested in a big league. Now he is nearing his peak and is proven in the Premier League. If he has a release clause, so be it. If not, i'd want well over 30 for him.

If the 24m clause is true then there's no discussion really. If a CL club comes in for Fellaini he will be off like a shot and who can blame him. With him not playing in the Euros, this one might happen sooner than later. Hopefully if it does, then the pressure to sell Baines goes away and we can keep him for another season until Man U come in again.

24m for Fellaini would not be a bad deal, hopefully if it happens the money can be use wisely. I.e. get rid of a chunk of the debt and give the manager at least half to bring in a couple of players...

Silly season it is but there do seem to be a hell of a lot more rumours about our players than there were this time last season.

It's in the Daily Mail so it must be true. A bit of a hint is the ridiculously low fee of £20m that they are mentioning - the journo doesn't happen to be a Chelsea fan trying to lower our expectations by chance does he?

Seems that rumours regarding a release clause are true - £26m and he's away. I wouldn't be getting Fellaini printed on your shirt chaps - unless it's a Chelsea one that is...

The chap that said about the release clause is rarely wrong as well.

Denis #680 it's not in Bill's interests for it to happen sooner rather than later. Like Rooney, and Arteta (admittedly Rooney was still recovering from injury) any major moves will happen on deadline day to leave no time to spend the money. And like Rooney and Arteta before him, the majority of the fanbase will accept it, accepting our position as poor financial relations with a Chairman who is trying his best.

Presumably if a player has a release clause then it relates to the net value the club should receive, if so I think £24m would be a good price although I imagine that the buying club would be shelling out nearer £30m what with agents fees and signing fees etc.

FFS every summer this happens. Roll on final day and 45mil in the bank when Felli and Baines go and no-one bought to replace them save a couple of loanees from Honduras' third tier.

Then when we get to January (trying desperately to ignore the Goodison grapevine of "Most of it has gone the banks, we only got 5 may 7 mil to spend now :'("). And we're all like "OOh we got 45mil to spend and at least another 5 or 6mil with the money we saved on wages!!! 50 mil Yay! Let's buy Messi" etc etc.

Sick of summer, sick of January, sick of being skint all the fecking time bah humbug, is it Chrimbo yet?

Matt (702), I don't think most fans are as understanding and forgiving as you perceive. I just think we're a little more realistic than you seem to be. We're not a big club anymore. Every club sells at the right price. Personally I just want our debt problem addressed so we can start again. if that means selling Fellaini and Baines for £40-$45 million then, as far as I'm concerned, we should do it.

I actually think he'll give us another season and see if we can make a move towards European qualification.

I think he'll get to play just behind Jelavic in which he really made an impact towards the end of this season. If we can finally start a season the way we end one then we could be there or there abouts. One extra year with us wont affect his market value as any buy out clause in his contract would still be valid.

If we can get into Europe maybe he'll want to stay, if we dont then we're pretty much guaranteed the money thats being touted about at the moment. The problem could be that his dad is his agent and the pound or euro signs may be lighting up in his head!

Personally I cant wait for the window to shut. Lets face it, without a rich buyer coming in (and i'm probably more likely to with the lottery than that happening), the next few months are going to be hell with endless speculation and crap journalism.

Far too many people take these stories seriously. The main reason they are written is to fill up pages when nothing is going on. Summer is known as the silly season, becauuse there is no domestic football and Parliament is in recess. The two main arenas of newspaper stories gone - what the Hell are the journos gonna write??? That is why Big Brother was aired in the summer, and the papers were full of tittle tattle about something of no importance whatsoever.

Everton has some great players, but is not a rich club. Ergo, the press like to focus on such a club as prey. Were they to run a story about Rooney to Madrid, it would cause a sensation for a couple of days, but then denials from all parties would make the paper look untrustworthy. So Everton players are safe to mention.

Of course, we may sell a significant player, but we will not sell more than one. For all our troubles, can anyone mention the last time we sold more than one of our key players? The closest was last season. But really only Arteta was really key (Yak had scored how many goals in the previous two years?), and he had to hand in a transfer request two hours before the window closed.

Chill FFS!

Another closed season and the speculation starts to reach fever pitch with the lazy journalists eager to fill column inches and the vultures circling overhead as Everton's perilous financial circumstances dictate the mood. The only comments that we have had from inside Everton to date are those from Elstone at the end of the season who hinted at player trading this summer and Jagielka who commented recently that Everton would not be able to turn down bids of £20 million for any player on the books. The unpalatable truth of the matter is that without investment that Kenwright has little choice but to continue with his modus operandi of player trading. If Chelsea offer £20 million plus for Fellaini - expect him to be gone. My only other comment though is this - would Liverpool supporters sit back and allow their board to get away with such an approach, justified on these pages by those with low expectations, absolutely no ambition, and almost seemingly giving Kenwright and his cronies cart blanche for Everton to be run in such a manner.

Remember guys this is just media speculation.
There will be, as usual, plenty of that from now till August and will involve almost every player who is worth anything. Best to take everything with a pinch of salt and ignore it until the player or the club actually makes a statement.
As I said once before the players agents start some of these rumours in the hope their clients get interested especially when the big clubs are mentioned.
I don't think any of Everton's current squad will be sold especially those who held regular places last season.

Every closed season is 'Groundhog Day' at Everton. We will most likely hold out selling anyone until the last few days of the Transfer window . Then there will either be a mad rush to bring in someone not really appropriate like another of Moyes beloved defenders or some dodgy loaners like Drenthe. Or alternatively BK will"RING FENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!" the transfer money which will not be spent during the January window of course.

It's the first time today that I have heard about a minimum fee release clause in Fellaini's contract. Absolutely gutted even if it is £24 mil or £26 mil depending on who you read. Anyone who thinks he's overrated obviously isn't watching very closely. Some on here even call him lazy, which is ridiculous and factually inaccurate according to OPTA. Anyway, I am desperate for him to stay and even more desperate that someone doesn't trigger that release clause on transfer deadline day leaving us in the ........

Anichebe, Osman, Coleman, Neville, Hibbert and even my own hero Cahill all have their supporters yet they are at best mid table or Championship standard. No doubt a few more names can be added to that list.
We would be wise to move a few of them on, for nothing if necessary and bulk up the wages saved on players already in the club and newcomers who could take us to the next level.

Why doesn't our manager or shithouse chairman come and say no-one is going anywhere? The reason they don't I presume is that it's already a done deal for Felli and Baines and that twat Kenwight will end up giving Moyes £5 million to find replacements while he takes his wedge and the rest goes to the bank. Real Madrid in as well now according to the rags? Surely that pushes up price to £25m and beyond... Most of which will need to go to Moyes if he's not going to quit immediately after selling his top player.

I would say Moyes could work wonders with £25m but last time round it got us Heitinga, Distin and Bily!
