The Rumour Mill, Season 2011-12

Wigan could trade one Vic for another

21/06/2012 | Comments (41)
Wigan Athletic could move for Everton's Victor Anichebe this summer if they decide to sell Victor Moses.

Chelsea have already had a derisory bid for Moses rejected out of hand but Roman Abramovich could return with an improved offer for the striker, and there are sure to be other suitors if it emerges that he is available.

If he does move on, the Latics could look up the road to Goodison Park where Anichebe is itching for more first-team opportunities but has struggled to hold down a first-team place because of injury and competition for places from Nikica Jelavic and Tim Cahill.

If there is any substance to us I'd suggest we put a £5m bid in for Moses and take Chelsea out of the equation. We could do with a striker cum winger.

If he could stay fit Moyes would play him every game. He obviously rates the lad.

Wonder how much he would fetch? 3-4m?

To be fair to the lad he had one of the best goal to min ratios in the league last season! Also if he goes then it is fair to say that Jelavic would be the only senior striker at the club...

This reminds me

A couple of rumors like this were floated last season, one was doing the rounds about Charlie Nzogbia, despite our financial situation, many were screaming for Moyes to sign him.
I got so fed up with the abuse Anichebe was taking I bet a guy a tenner that Vic would score more than Nzogbia (who eventually went to Villa for 12 million quid if Memory serves me right)

So Gav Ram : I believe you to be a man of Honour, send your £10 to www.getkidsgoing.com.
the consolation is you will agree its a cracking charity.

While we are at it, I also remember Ossie taking dogs abuse that day too.

So Dick Fearon. You too lost a tenner mate. Ossie did score more than your boy Tim.

Same charity please

The only comment I would make is that Vic is rated higher than Vaughan by Moyes and I agree with that.
Maybe he could be someone to play alongside Jelavic...who knows ??
Ameobi played alongside Shearer at Newcastle and he is very similar to Vic.

By the way, I see that DM is still waiting for new comers which is the same as ever.
He is quoted as saying that he wants new players to arrive early for this season to allow them to 'bed in'.
Other clubs are already active and we just wait for the remnants sales.
Never mind the quality, feel the width !!!!!!!

Will do Dave but doesn't change my viewpoint on Anichebe being fucking shite, if you follow him long enough he will some day score more than one a season but you're in a small group.

Good idea Drew, get a bid in for Moses and offer Anichebe as part exchange, shame we don't have the cash to make up the difference.

Even if we robbed Wigan for a couple of Million for Anichebe I doubt that would give us enough to get Moses, might be enough for Pienaar though

I was convinced Moses was available on a free this summer? Apprently I must be wrong if teams are bidding for him.

Why not a part exchange deal with a bit of cash to Wigan also (I can't see Victor A being worth more than Victor M). They both play a very similar position: right/wing come striker. Victor M (although I know very little about his statistics) would probably get more game time than Victor A based on not spending so long in the treatment room.

My thoughts on Anichebe is for 89 minutes each game he plays in he looks seriously out of his depth at this level, he looks lacking in pace, balance and cannot lead the line or hold the ball up to any great effect. His petulance is tiresome as is the ease he's knocked off the ball by even a semi-decent defender.

And then he does and does something top class and extraordinary and I start thinking that this kid has got something. The stats from last season suggest it's not just me hoping he comes good - he scored 6 goals from 16 appearances, most as sub, and whilst these aren't great stats, they're not dire and if last season heralds a upward trend and the goals keep coming- well who knows

If a manager can tap this potential or 'Big Vic' finds a way to turn the 1% of his game that's excellent to even 50% - he'll make a name for himself.

I seriously doubt that this will happen at this stage of his career and we are probably well advised to get shut. However, there is this nagging doubt in my head he might turn out to be a decent forward, at the right club, with the right manager and the right attitude.

Don't worry about any 'extra money' papers say our Vic is £6m rated!!

I think this is about contracts, Moses is in the last year and so has plumetted in value, we bid more than Chelsea ie £5m and we buy the lad.

From that point Wigan have £5m in their pocket and need to find a premier league striker to play for £20k a week - look no further than big Vic but oh what a shame, he has a 3 year contract and so the capital costs are higher in order to break that.. From a business sense this one has legs and Vic might move on for playing time even if he didn't get a wage hike!!

Funny that this is being reported in the Liverpool Daily Post cos a couple of ITK's on another forum did put this out there weeks ago, saying Moyesy IS willing to sell Big Vic and that Wigan are seriously interested in him IF Martinez stays, which he is, so who knows?

Apparently we don't have to sell the likes of Felli and Baines to appease the banks but we do have to sell if we want to build up the cash to be able to squad build and, for me, we can do without Anichebe, so sell him for a decent fee.

Hopefully we'll get close to what we want for Yobo and then sell someone else, maybe either Cahill or Rodwell and then we should have a fair amount of dosh to be able to sign Pienaar and a right winger atleast, and maybe a freebie or two to fill out the squad?!

Drew, there is zero chance that Moses is going anywhere for less than £6m and probably much closer to the £10m mark.

Sadly money that we don't have and, even if we did, what chance of us outbidding Chelsea?!!

Played out of natural position on the wing when its obvious to all and sundry he is a bustling centre forward that can put the ball in the net. Moyes penchant for playing players to do job rather than setting up the side with balance and structure is partly the reason Vic looks so shite and the obvious reason we were so shite for half of last season. How many defenders occupied midfield roles, and how many times was a forward taken off for a defender with half an hour to play? Do you think this will change next season?

Chelsea bid £4m.. I'm sure they see him as a Sturridge type to sit on the bench, make the odd appearance and gain in value.

£6m is fine - straight swap!

I reckon given full fitness and a good run of games at centre forward Vic would prove a real handful and possibly bag a decent number of goals. Trouble is that his all round game is not strong enough for us to merit giving him that run...

Think he could do well at Wigan and would almost definitely score against us!

Anto

A bustling centre forward?

You have fell into the trap of thinking because he is built like a heavy weight boxer then he must be able to out muscle the opposition, when in fact its the opposite. He never uses his bulk to bully defenders and is brushed of the ball with ease.

Fully agree with you about Moyes loving to play players out of position but Anichebe would look shite playing anywhere.

Can't believe I'm actually going to say this, mainly because I've been a critic of Vic in the past, but I wouldn't mind seeing him playing up front with Jelavic if we didn't get funds for players this pre-season. Although we all know that Moyes will come out in hives if he sees 2 up front so it'll never happen, but as a bench player he can do a job in the last 15 minutes.

Sam theres no grudge merely stating I still think Anichebe is shite, he scored 5 league goals last season which doubled what he had scored in the league over the previous 5 years altogether, dont forget this is a player that has only scored 12 league goals in 104 league appearances and five of those came last season. If you still want to get excited over those stats I think you sights are way below EPL standard. If you can name a striker with similar stats and get excited about them too I'd increase my pity levels.

I don't think I could take anymore of Vic falling over at the slightest touch, and then punching the ground. Also, think the lad has a huge attitude problem.
