Everton in talks over Castaignos

23/06/2012 | Comments (18)
Sky Italia reported last night that Everton are in talks with Internazionale about signing striker Luc Castaignos.

The Italian club are looking to offload the 19-year-old, whom they signed from Feyenoord, after just six appearances and one goal, and West Ham are believed to have agreed a £6m fee for the Dutch U-19 international.

Inter are also reportedly open to loaning Castaignos for the season for £1.6m but in that instance would prefer he remained in Serie A.

Liverpool are also said to be interested.

So this is a fee over 12 years at £500,000 a year? Were is the money to sign him? Neville is talking about Donovan returning and most of the press continue with Pienaar being Moyes priority, then Mellberg has been the subject of rumors, are we selling someone?

It's probably all bollocks, as usual... with all these players we're linked to, Moyes must have some transfer kitty... (NOT!!!)

Well, I don't think we have any extra money for another striker. Like what Gareth said, we desperately need Pienaar or Donovan and then another centre back.

Liam not sure why you reckon another centre back, we have 4 good CBs plus Neville and Hibbert who can capably deputise.

Anthony, you know the fact that Distin isn't playing very well these days and three centre-backs are not enough. Also, Neville usually plays in the centre-mid or right-back and Hibbo is not a capable player for centre-back as his physical presence doesn't allow him to dominate in the air.

So depressing to think that west ham can probably outbid us very comfortably. What's the bet our net spend will be in the premierships bottom 5 again.

As for this lad castaignos, he sounds tasty but highly doubt moyes would want to spend more than 3-4m (even if we had it) on a youngster who has barely played in the last year.

I'll believe signings when I see them holding up a shirt for the press on Goodison soil. Can't say I know much about the lad but behind getting Pienaar and a right winger I'd love to see a proper number 10 playmaker behind Jelavic.

Why would we need another young striker who wouldn't get a game, when we have Vellios?

Alasdair, I'd happily take £4m for Anichebe. That and a couple of million for Yobo would easily complete the Pienaar signing.

I'd happily take the Echo, a packet of Woodbine and half a Curly Wurly for Anichebe.

Didn't Moyes try to sign Mourtino (spelling) the Portuguese player? Now he would be a great signing.

I have seen the lad make a couple of sub appearances for Inter (tv only as the budget doesn't stretch to trip to Italy). Castaignos is more a second forward playing the same sort of role as Cahill. He looks, based on the little I have seen, speedy, mobile with a really good touch and technique. He is a quite highly rated youngster amongst Inter fans but there is some concern about his 'know it all' attitude.

Ray, the attitude seems to be part of the Dutch psyche. They are all a bit arrogant.

Steven Naismith on a free would seem a cert to me. Scottish, free all the boxes seem ticked. Naismith has rejected the opportunity to join new rangers newco according to the beeb.

The Melberg link has to be bollocks, good player back in the day but being kind it looked like his legs were going. As it stands id say we are absolutely fine at centre half, probably the position we are deepest on quality.

We do need some legit depth at striker, be it a permanent move or loan. Havent seen this kid, as mentioned perhaps exploiting the rangers is more plausible.

If this lad is capable of playing in behind Jelavic and knocking in a decent number of goals as well, he may represent an attacking option we don't currently have in our squad (Cahill on the downslide and Vellios more of a target man). However, for 6 million we need someone who will come in and play regularly and he would have to be an exceptional 19-year-old to automatically command a starting role based on the manager's modus operandi. If he is that good already why would Inter be shipping him out? Do they have money problems and a striker surplus? Naismith seems a more likely proposition, all things considered.

Incidentally, I haven't noticed a great drop in form from Distin, barring the obvious occasional clanger (that all our defenders are capable of every now and then). More worried that Duffy won't continue to develop, and Distin is our best option for cover at left back as well. Genuine wingers and cover for full-back(s) seem to be the priorities for strengthening the squad, in my opinion.
