Should Moyes ever take the Man Utd job?
The colossal press seems to know that David Moyes is a contender for the Manchester United job when Sir Alex Ferguson retires. However, would it be wise for Moyes to jump ship should Man Utd come calling?
I vaguely remember reading that Man Utd fans are thinking about some kind of protest against the current Man Utd owners these days. It has been suggested by some that the owners have saddled the club with mass debt. The owners are now contemplating an IPO to raise some cash. (May I assume some much needed financing!)
I find it a strange coincidence that GM of America just recently (barely a few days ago) mentioned that they have agreed some kind of multiyear sponsorship deal for Man Utd. That announcement came just days before I heard about a possible Man Utd IPO (possibly to juice the IPO). GM should have known that they have only recently been saved by taxpayers’ money… Hopefully, the US congress is taking note.
It seems like things are getting bad at Man U because SAF had to publicly claim that he has nothing to gain from any impending Man Utd IPO and he is on the side of the fans. It has also been suggested that Man Utd is not making big money signings, á la Man City or Chelski style because of too much debt.
I am sure that if Man Utd is ever for sale, there will be no shortage of takers. However, it is also clear that the club that’s ranked Number 1 in the world in terms of revenue cannot be supported by business means alone. It’s racking up more debt than revenue. Buying such massive clubs these days also means draining money. And, the recent financial crisis has unleashed a set of legislation that I believe will make it hard for super-moneymen from Russia or the Middle East to come splash the cash. How the latter affects football financing is a debate for another day.
Let us envisage the worst case but possible scenario: Man Utd debt becomes unsustainable, the IPO falls like Facebook’s, fans remonstrating á la Blackburn-style… Don’t you think it’s better to stay in the non-tumultuous world that is Finch Farm?

Ferguson has stated that he will not, as suggested by fans who have since apologised, financially benefit from the latest moves from the Glazers and therefore has no ulterior motive for backing them.
Ferguson hasnt uttered one word against them, as some United fans who live in dreamland think he should to start some kind of anti-Glazer momentum, like its ever going to happen and he would self sabotage the last years of his career and destsbilise the club.
Ferguson got a bit too big for his boots once over the Rock of Gibralter wrangle and got way out of his depth. It seemed the worst aspects of his sheer bloody mindedness came to the fore and he got firmly put in his place, shown what real power was and ended up on one year rolling contracts and family dealings with players ceased thanks to the Magners and the 99 questions.
Any manager knows the value of a good relationship with your board, which does cut both ways. But when it isn't there it leads to trouble, recent examples are Redknapp and Benitez.
As for Moyes, I rate him but I personally couldnt see a club who look to get to the last 8 of the champions league every season entertaining someone without even a track record in the uefa.

However, managing a top 4 club in the future is not, and never will be, in his remit.

An Everton fan concerning themselves with the financial situation at Man United is like a battered wife fretting about the welfare of fat Tyrone off Coronation Street.
Their purported struggles are pure fantasy land. In the real world, we're currently the one's spread eagled on the floor with a black eye and notice to 'get the fucking chips on'.

The Glazers are almost 2/3rd's of the way into paying the leverage back.
The GM Cheverolet main shirt sponsership comes into effect in 2014-15 season. Yes, it is a massive sponsership deal, but almost all of Man Utd's sponserships are massive. Current car suppliers Audi basically give all of the players corporate cars in turn for appearing in adverts and their logos are all over the dug-out chairs. They also have a very big contract with Turkish Airways. Anyone seen the advert of them playing a game of football onboard a flight is superb!
Basically Sur you touch on this yourself. Man Utd are the biggest football brand in the world and large corporations are queueing up to become associated with them.
Everton take note. THIS IS HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR BRAND!
On the point about not being able to splash the cash as his hands are tied.Since the Glazers took over in 2005 I think you will find that they have sanctioned the following transfers:
Anderson £17M
Nani £13M
Carrick £17M
Vidic £7M
A Young £17M
Jones £19M
Smalling £10M
De Gea £19M
Valencia £16M
Kagawa £17M
Hernandez £6M
Bebe £7M
Berbatov £31M
I think there has been a fair amount of money spent on the current team.
Man Utd will never go down the tubes at all.
