Trust Everton – What's happening??

 Comments (9) jump to end

The Sound of Silence... that's what. I have (some) money to give you and I'm not a Nigerian. Time is a-wasting in the old Compound Interest stakes.

How long does it take to dot the i's and cross the t's to make it scoundrel proof???

You may not be a Nigerian.
Do you live in a bedsit in Manchester?

I don't think it is as straight-forward a process Derek. I met one of the proponents around a year ago, and have no doubt about the integrity and intentions of those involved, but I think there'd need to be an understanding on "articles of association" in terms of aims and objectives, and therein I think lies the problem, which is two-fold.

1) How many members do they think they could attract, and how much do they think they could raise? (I liked the idea allowing people to contribute what they could afford).

2) There will be a swathe of opinion on what the goals should be, ranging from buying Finch Farm, buying Goodison, buying shares, buying players, all of which will depend on 1) above. However they need to be realistic, have appointed directors on board, and tin hats and kevlar underpants for the abuse they will get.

I actually think the idea has some merit, because with the information they will have, they would become a marketing platform to be noticed by the club - especially with the amount of overseas fans who would feel they were contributing in some way.

As we said from the beginning we won't be taking money from people until we have a detailed proposal in place. These things take time, and even more so if people are working on things in their spare time. We think we are making progress, otherwise we would have packed it in and told everyone. When the time comes, your money will be welcome - provided Trust Everton can accept it.

Among the ‘i’s and ‘t’s Trust Everton has to dot and cross is how to take funds from people based in and outside the UK while staying on the right side of the relevant laws in the countries concerned. We are aware that funding from non-UK fans has been an issue for other supporters’ vehicles.

Matt #060, just to re-clarify a couple of points (and as stated on forum posts and trusteverton.com) the aim of Trust Everton is the purchase of property assets, primarily Finch Farm in the near term. Players and shares are not part of the plan.

Glad to see Tony restate the objective of securing property assets. It would be marvellous to see Finch Farm & eventually Goodison Park owned by the Trust. Keep up the good work, it'll all be worth it in the end. Maybe I'll have had that Lottery win I'm waiting on by the time you're up & running!

Tony, is the overseas funding problem from non-UK accounts? or non-UK residents? as most of us overseas will have a recognised UK account.

ps: I could always send the money to your account or through a friend in UK if it's a resident problem.

I'd like to see the ground and Finch Farm owned by the trust and rented back to the owners at the same putative terms.

Making life easier for the current 'custodians' would allow them more slack in order to do a slack job.

It would be good to get an update on what's happening, even if it's brief.

I appreciate the Trust need to get their articles sorted before taking money, but there is a cost to every year's delay as many contributors (such as myself) may only be capable of monthly or annual donations which over time will add up to a decent amount, rather than a one-off lump sum.

At the very least, a contact database should be established of anyone who is interested, and how they can contribute. I would be happy to do any work that needs doing on any of this and hope it gets established soon. Thanks to those doing the work.
