The Rumour Mill

No Naismith medical yet

02/07/2012 | Comments (17)
The Herald in Scotland report that Steven Naismith could be announced as Everton's first signing of the summer this week after he completed and passed a medical at Finch Farm this weekend.

However, the last part about having passed his medical was denied on Monday by Everton via the local press.

Over in the Twittersphere, however, there are competing rumours over this supposed medical, with some claiming that he failed it and others suggesting that it hasn't taken place yet and he has been booked in at Finch Farm for early this week.

As ever... don't believe a thing until he's pictured with his name on the back of an Everton jersey or holding the scarf over his head but with The Guardian now reporting Naismith's arrival as imminent, it's looking positive.

So long as the medical was thorough and he passed I see no harm in this whatsoever. If it happens this week will surely be our earliest piece of transfer business in years!!!

I don't really rate Naismith, not proven and injury prone; I would prefer a bid for Rodallega – who is also available for free! Put the extra wages towards quality... like Donovan or Pienaar. COYB

I think Naismith must be confident enough in his own fitness to have pushed for his Rangers contract release. If he had serious doubts, surely he wouldn't be daft enough to burn his bridges with the Newco and a guaranteed wage only to fail several medicals with Premier League clubs?

I know YouTube can make Shandy Andy look like Messi but I've seen a video showing his 9 goals before injury last year and he looks top class. Some very humbling stories surfacing today as well including his correspondences with a soldier out in Afghanistan. Sounds like a good guy on & off the pitch to me...

Sam - certainly will be our earliest piece of transfer business since Bill Kenwright was Chairman. Although Beckford was here early (but that was also a free). Any that cost money are done after 11pm on 31st August (if done at all of course) I agree I hope his medical was thorough.

We still need to sort out the wings now. Minimum is two more in and thats without any leaving.

I think EFC's medicals policy is pretty tough and if, if, if, and we have a new player it sounds good to me.

'Arry took Saha without a medical didn't he? No point actually as everyone knows what the result would be anyway.

Can't be that tough Keith, Shandy Andy passed one.

Will this be like the Forsell medical?...."that was never taken" !!!

Tony,

I think Keith is probably right, our medicals ARE pretty tough, for the reason you said. Forsell. (Shandy Andy was breathalised)

Rumours are just that, rumours. However, I hope any player Everton are interested in who can strengthen the squad should be pursued and especially on a free. Most opinions seem to indicate Naismith could be a real asset.

What bad advice. Don't trust seeing him in a scarf with his efc top on. Only trust seeing a new signing playing a competitive game remember Kanchelskis "signing"?

I think that The Guardian's Andy Hunter has good connections with the club, and he certainly isn't given to the kind of speculation that fills up corners in other papers. Which probably means that something's happening, but how it turns out - well? At least we know that training starts on Thursday.

Remember that anagram of Andrei Kanchelskis? ' He's a lad in knickers'.

I reckon this one is gonna happen. All the pieces seem to fit. I for one think he'll become very popular...

Well last season he knocked in 9 in 11 in the SPL which was a lower ratio goals per games than Jelly and if he looks half as good as Jelly has been I'd be very happy.

With some of the earlier talk about rumours etc just wondering if anyone saw 'Bleacher Report' on Baines http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1243574-manchester-united-transfer-rumors-leighton-baines-is-right-player-wrong-price?

I think that Bleacher Report may very well be THE WORST football website! Constantly full of shit, even makes GMF look half decent which has to be the 2nd worst football website.

What ever happened to Gary Naysmith? Or is he back after being criogenically frozen in Falkirk for the last 10 years.

Conundrum - do we remain grounded that we need to sign better players still, or are we at a point where the signing of anyone proven anywhere is a positive for the squad?

I see that Wikipedia has already got Naismith down as an Everton player! Youve got to laugh havent you. The guy has probably never set foot in Finch Farm yet. Also, what is Moyes doing with all these strikers? I thought versatile defenders were his thing.

Craig however has edited that page has done a very amateur job, they haven't changed anthing other than the top lines saying the current club. Wikipedia football players pages will probably be protected soon and uneditable, like certain "celebs" because people keep changing it to they're dead...
