Rodallega signing not imminent?

10/07/2012 | Comments (38)
There is lots of chatter on various forums and on Twitter that Everton are close to wrapping up the signature of Hugo Rodallega on a free transfer after he left Wigan and that he could be unveiled as David Moyes's latest signing this week.

Fresh speculation, though, brings conflicting suggestions, with some claiming that the Colombian has signed a three-year contract with the Blues, while others say he has rejected terms and is likely to join Fulham (that's according to The Mirror and The Sun).

Sunderland, Celtic and Stoke have also shown interest in the 26-year-old.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. An early addition who can play a bit. Might help him aswell he seemed to have gone a bit stale at Wigan. A bit of healthy competition in the squad too. Happy!

Hopefully another early signing for the Blues, as well as an attacking player. Very good piece of business on a free, to think about £10m was rumoured to be his worth 2 seasons ago.

Lots of twitter chatter saying he's off to Sunderland for a medical as we wouldn't meet his wage demands.

Got a feeling we need to ship out the Yobo's, Cahill's and Anichebe's before we do much else TBH.

If he's only interested in wages then sunderland can have him.

Naismith had better offers financially from what I hear but choose us. Thats the kind of player we want.

Who are these twitterers?

Good signing if it happens, we need good back up for Jela, and can play on the wing too.

Seems like a decent player, and being free would help our financial situation. But if he is as Sam says just for the wage then I believe Everton would be better off looking for someone with the 'eye of the tiger'.

Great signing. Offers pace and takes a great free kick. Would fit in well here.

Not too sure about Rodallega, not much of a goalscorer and I don't see where he would fit in. I'd rather see Vellios given more of a chance, Naismith playing behind Jelavic and an out-and-out winger to play on the wing, maybe use the potential wages on Hoilett instead.

As already stated, we need to be rid of Cahills 50k a week before this would happen. No one is gonna offer Cahill that kind of money in the UK (Bit like Moyes really). So we continue to pay him for his 1 goal a season form.

If Silva got us 400k that should pay Rodallega at least until the season starts.

I'd be please especially on a free. If Jelavic got injured or suspended then we would be a bit short up top. You can never have enough good forwards.

Hoilett is a young 'un so whoever signs him will have to stump up compensation (probably 4m) as well as paying him a stupid wage. Great prospect but unfortunately not for us.

I've always liked Rodallega; he has something that we lack as well ...PACE! He would be very good on the break when Moyes goes to Anfield and plays his 8-1-1 formation. We could do with a greater goals record but nothing to lose on a free transfer. We can always sell him on if it doesn't work out.

I'd rather pay £4m for Hoilett and pay him a high wage than pay £4m and a high wage for Pienaar. Hoilett is much younger and, if needs be, he does have re-sale value.

Rodallega is a decent signing and in a good squad would regain the form he showed when other clubs were looking at him. He is strong and has good control so it's a no-brainer really.

Wages should not be an issue because we have saved a fortune over the past couple of years with transfers out of high earners and massive loan outs with very few coming here. Every season we loan out lots of players and now that the Yak and Arteta have left plus Beckford, Pienaar, Ruddy, Hahnemann and McFadden etc etc with very few coming in, we must be saving a lot of money which should be used to strengthen the squad.

He is a striker who could play a wide role at a push. To all those questioning his signing I ask why?!

You need more than one good striker for gods sake. Jelavic will get injured or whatever at some point.

Classy player who would be an excellent signing. Not that long ago he was linked with a 10m plus move to arsenal

I would rather give Anichebe a final season to prove himself, he played 5 less games than Rodallega last season scoring 4 more; Rodallega has never scored more than 10 goals in a season. I just think it would be a waste of wages that could be used to sign a winger which we desperately need.

Are you joking Trevor (134)? I thought the problem we had was that we aren't actually banking any of that money for future transfers / wages? We have a huge overdraft and outstanding loans which have to be serviced along with the notorious operating costs.
I think most of us have accepted that until our billionaire turns up EFC will continue to limp along financially relying, at least partially, on an exceptional team spirit for continued competitiveness on the pitch and that means any wage demands have to be considered against what the player brings and how it may upset the players already here.
For a lot of people, James (138), it is a big question of priorities. Given a severely limited transfer pot and money for wages, we have to be careful to pick the right parts of the squad to strenghten. Some people are maybe not as sure as you are that Rodallega will deliver at the required level, or may be hoping that someone like Vellios can come good and we may go for a right winger / midfielder / full-back with the money instead. I have not seen enough of the player to judge for myself and so bow to your better knowledge, but you have to understand other people's misgivings especially considering none of the bigger clubs seem to be interested in him at the moment.

Trevor #134, 'saving money' implies that we are putting money aside to spend later, whereas the actual situation of the club is that we are not spending money that we haven't got when we get players off the wage bill.

Fulham solid favourites to sign him now ... We will need another striker surely. Jelavic is a genuine scorer but Anichebe, Vellios, Cahill and Naismith are hardly prolific.

So he'd rather sign for fulham than us?

Good luck to him then...I wouldn't really want a player who'd choose that way, we're a bit better than that, and we should be looking at better than bottom-half of the table players.

As much as I would like to see Rodellega come in, look at it from his point of view. Everton are a club renowned for playing 1 striker, in January we signed a striker that has so far taken the league by storm and then last week we sign a second striker that Jelavic has forged a prosperous partnership with previosly. On the other hand, you have Fulham who have sold Zamora, released Johnson and lost out on Pogrebnyak and are therefore in need of a striker. Where is Rodellega going to get the most game time?

Tony#173- Common Sense???

What would you do Fulham as has been said have off loaded
a number of strikers, Dempsey looks like he will be gone too.
They offer you £70k a week and almost guaranteed first team football.
Now Everton wow great club will Moyes Play me? MMM But Never mind Bill has told me I will be a WOW signing and he will guarantee me £40k per week.
Hello Fulham where do Sign.

All this paper talk is nonesense, Baines will go hence why Pienaar has not
been signed he too is stalling waiting to see what happens.
For all my critisism of Moyes he has a knack of getting us into the top 7 even though sometimes the football is dire.
So Evertonions, forward for to see and all we will see this year is much of the same we will be on a rollercoaster ride of highs and being Everton more than a few lows.
I have decided that this season I am not getting angry or puimped up I am going to quietly take in this season and see what happens.
I do believe though that with a bit of luck and the run of the ball, no bad decisions we can finish in the top 5 and win a cup.
OMG there I go again but that is what is great about being an Evertonion

One thing Kenwright cannot do is seal a deal. He can't sell the club, he can't move stadiums and he can't sign players as proved by the gentleman's handshake with Fernandes. If they've had Rodallega in for talks, why not get the deal done? Why let him walk away to talk to other clubs? Why hasn't this Pranjic signed yet? Why hasn't Pienaar signed? I'll bet these rumours originate from Bill himself within the club to fool the fans when there's no intention of signing anyone. 'Look at our ambition, we were just unlucky'

I actually tell a lie though, Kenwright is very good at concluding deals when selling players.

Alan Clarke(289), Bill Kenwright is the chairman of the club and not the Chief Executive. He doesn't run the club day to day, as that is not now or ever has been his job. He has the final say as the chairman but it's the Chief Executive that does all the work.

There are many legitimate reasons to criticise Kenwright, but this isn't one of them.

Alan Clarke #289, just because a player has reportedly been in for talks does not mean a deal will be made that instant, surely it would be a bad idea for a player to only talk to one club without considering the rest.

Rodallega is paper talk, not the most trusted of sources, Pranjic very well may be speaking to other clubs, I doubt that the reason he hasn't signed is due to Kenwright not being able to complete a deal, If that was the case we wouldn't have signed Naismith already. The Pienarr situation also can't be seen as Kenwright's fault, Pienarr himself has stated he wants talks with Tottenham's new manager and if Andre Villas-Boas does decide Pienarr is in his plans then it looks like we will miss out on him.

I will admit I'm not a Kenwright supporter but I think blaming him for things that aren't necessarily his fault just sounds like you are looking for something to blame him for.
