No offers made for Baines or Fellaini

05/07/2012 | Comments (3)
David Moyes insists he has received no offers for Leighton Baines or Marouane Fellaini.

Moyes has dismissed suggestions the players are transfer targets by insisting he has not been contacted about any of his players during the close season and insists that he intends to continue improving the Blues' squad.

"We're always going to have interest in the players we have, because we've got really good players, so I would expect it," he said.

"But we don't sell easy here at Everton and we've always tried to build a team.

"Of course you're going to lose players now and again but in the main we've kept the bulk of the players, we're going to continue to try and add to it and try to keep improving.

He added: "I've heard nothing from nobody."

Shouldn't that be "I've heard nothing from anybody"? Or better still "I haven't heard anything from anybody"?

In either case, I hope it stays that way, but unfortunately I doubt it.

The teams that could splash the cash, don't really need Baines or Fella, although I think they'd be an improvement to any squad.

Like the way this summer is shaping up.

Very early days to be rubbing our hands, satisfied that we have hung onto our stars and added significantly to the squad. We need to bring in at least two more players to be at the same level as last season (3 or 4 of the right quality to be pushing to the next level) and we have no idea how they will be funded if we can't get in more free transfers or loans (that will benefit us).

Reality is that the clubs who may be interested in Fellaini or Baines have no real need to rush. They can spend a couple more weeks checking out their options (secure in the knowledge that they will be made aware if anyone actually makes an enquiry/ offer) and then another couple sealing the deal(s).

The problem is that doesn't really suit us at all as we will have missed some prime targets and everyone will know we are desperate to replace the players we have lost and hike the prices up.

I don't want us to sell anyone, but I am not yet convinced that we have the necessary funds to add to the squad in the way we should be (or that free transfers will provide all the players we need), and I don't want us to be scrambling around in the second half of August (although I don't think that we will be able to dictate the timetable in any case).
