Jason Kearton first started playing football with Coalstars in his home town of Ipswich, Australia and then moved to Brisbane Lions which included one season in the NSL.While at Lions, he had the opportunity to move to Everton and made the switch in August 1998.

He initally returned to his native country and had another spell on loan at Stoke City where he made 16 consecutive appearances, keeping six clean sheets before returning to Goodison Park in 1992 as back-up to Neville Southall.

He was eventually released on a free transfer and signed for Crewe Alexandra in October 1996. Kearton went to make 218 appearances for the Railwaymen over the next five years before finally returning to Australia in August 2001, with his Australian wife Stacey and two children, Jake and Chloe, both of whom were born in the UK.

He retired in 2014 and moved into coaching.
