One adjective followed Claus Thomsen in match reports like an unwanted ghost: statuesque. To his credit, he did have one good game in his first season at Goodison Park, against Nottingham Forest. Despite making a nowhere near favourable impression with the discerning Everton crowd, Claus Thomsen played in all but one of the run-in games up to the end of the season.
In the new season under Howard Kendall, Thomsen does not appear to be faring well. After getting subbed in the first match against Crystal Palace (despite playing quite well, by all accounts), he did not figure much in the squad until the winter injury crisis of late 1997 really began to bite.
It was at this time that Thomsen's Everton career finally began to take shape... only for him to accept a move back to his homeland in March 1998. Before leaving, Claus scored his one and only Everton goal, a deflected overhead kick in the home defeat against Derby County. And he had finally started to get quite good ratings from those ever-critical fans... c'est la vie.
