Radzinski was in action early on with a great shot that brought a superb save from Kelly.  But the effort cost massively as Radzinski picked up a groin injury that had him labouring badly; a patently unfit Duncan Ferguson came on in his place after just 11 mins.

Scrappy stuff ensued, with Everton showing little shape and looking tired.  So a goal conceded after 30 mins came as no real surprise... and the scorer?  Graham Stuart.

Another dreadful tackle by Gemmill came as a fright considering his yellow card for an equally bad one early on.  An absolutely dreadful first half with both teams playing awful football was a blessed release when it finally ended.  But what can Walter Smith do to change this?  Gascoigne and Tal??  Ahem,

But no changes at half-time for Everton, who were quickly pinned back by a Charlton team with blood in their nostrils.  Naysmith was one of many who were having a stinker.  

The nail was firmly hammered home in the __ minute when Jason Euell sprinted through the stretched Everton defence and fired home.  Walter Smith's belated response was to bring Paul Gascoigne on in place of Niclas Alexandersson.  

A blatant penalty for Everton was then turned down when Kelly missed the ball and went straight through Naysmith, but Barber ordered a throw-in.  Joe-Max Moore then created something from nothing but it was fractionally wide.

It wasn't all over though: poor defending by Naysmith let Konchesky in who volleyed home an excellent goal.  0-3.
