France and Morocco went head-to-head for the opportunity to meet up with Argentina in the World Cup Final  but the African nation's impressive adventure in Qatar came to an end.

The reigning champions took an early lead when Theo Hernandez did well to get his foot over a high bouncing ball at the far post to drive it home from the angle but the floodgates refused to open as Morocco battled to find a way back into the match.

The French had a number of close calls but had more quality on the day, a fact that was underlined by Kylain Mbappé with 11 minutes to go. The PSG star danced his way through a clutch of Moroccan defenders before getting off a deflected shot that fell invitingly for Randal Kolo Muani to convert.

Morocco came agonisingly close to setting up a grandstand finish when Hugo Lloris got his fingertips to Jawad El Yamiq's brilliant overhead kick to divert it onto the post but Didier Deschamp's men held firm to book their place in the Final on Sunday.
