Season › 2022-23 › General Forum Conte leaves Tottenham by mutual consent 26/03/2023 Share: Antonio Conte is out as manager of Tottenham Hotspur manager, a week after his stunning outburst following his former team's collapse at Southampton and eight days before the North London club come to Goodison Park to face Everton. Spurs gave up a 3-1 lead at St Mary's and were forced to accept a 3-3 draw that damaged their hopes of securing a Champions League spot this season. Cristian Stellini will take charge as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach. In his post-match press conference, Conte had lambasted his players for a lack of desire and commitment and criticised the ownership at Tottenham for a culture of failure. His contract was up in the summer and it already seemed unlikely that he would remain with Spurs into next season. Dale Self 2 Posted 28/03/2023 at 16:41:33 Let's take s moment away from our troubles to appreciate Spurs and have a bit of a laugh. They are showing us how to not do it when we get up off the floor. Rob Halligan 3 Posted 28/03/2023 at 17:16:09 Spurs a big club… My Arse! Christopher Timmins 4 Posted 28/03/2023 at 17:24:04 Maybe Daniel is listening and acting on Bill's wise words. Phillip Warrington 5 Posted 28/03/2023 at 19:41:47 I'm not a 100% sure but didn't this happen the last time Conte managed in England? Tony Abrahams 6 Posted 28/03/2023 at 20:02:56 I wish he would have come to Everton instead of Koeman. Jerome Shields 7 Posted 29/03/2023 at 06:45:51 Conte is a really good Manager as was Pochettino. Player power at Spurs is out of control. It seems that it is a problem at a lot of Clubs. You have got to wonder about Levy, another losing Chairman. Tony Abrahams 8 Posted 29/03/2023 at 08:25:47 This is possibly one of the biggest reasons why stability can never be underestimated at a football club Jerome. The contradiction has been Chelsea, who always seemed to do well until a manager had been there long enough to start shaping the club in his own way, and this is when the problems seemed to start for whoever was in charge at the time?Signing for Everton, must have been the real golden ticket for “most players†though, because we have been the club, that have given out champions league wages, without the pressure of actually trying to qualify for even the Europa league. Danny O’Neill 9 Posted 29/03/2023 at 08:27:39 Good manager. Passionate in a typically Italian way. Very impressive title and trophy count, both as a player and as a manager.I had a quick look. If you count Serie B at Bari, Tottenham is the only club he has not won a league title or trophy with as manager. He only lasts 2 years on average at the clubs he's managed. But then I doubt the average life expectancy of a post-Moyes Everton manager would break that threshold. He seems a bit like Mourinho in that sense. A strong character who doesn't take kind to orders from the board and boards eventually wear thin of himHe'd have eaten Bill alive. That would have been entertaining. Eric Myles 10 Posted 29/03/2023 at 08:38:54 Jerome #7, it wasn't just the "selfish" players who had bought into his methods initially, that Conte eventually had a problem with. It was the board that wouldn't back him that he complained about publicly saying "20 years there is this owner and they never won something. why?" He accused the owners of willing to accept mediocrity to hide their own shortcomings (Sound like any other team you know?)And then the fans became dissatisfied with the soulless football. Brian Harrison 11 Posted 29/03/2023 at 09:48:53 Surely it cant be coincidence that 2 managers who are serial winners, Mourhino and Conte both failed to win a trophy while managing Spurs. I have thought for many years that both Everton and Spurs are so alike and maybe that's why both clubs have failed to match their fan bases expectations. Spurs have recently built probably the most impressive stadium in the Premier league and Everton will very shortly move into our new stadium. Both clubs have got long standing chairmen probably the 2 longest serving chairmen in the league.Spurs have Kane who regularly tops the scoring charts and is England's record goal scorer yet still trophies elude them. Also like Everton they have spent a lot over the last few years and seeing that Pochettino got them to the Champions league final they decided to part company. Seems like us they like to change their manager on a regular basis even when unlike us they had one that got them to the Champions league. Rob Dolby 12 Posted 29/03/2023 at 10:22:41 Interesting point that Brian.Spurs have had investment, top managers, top players and have the best ground in the country but haven't won a bean. Why is that?Is it as simple as City, Chelsea and Lpool being better with better players and managers or have those clubs out spent spurs in buying success.Spurs could be the next Everton. They are clinging on to a top 4 spot, in reality they will be in the Europa next year. If Kane goes where will all of his goals come from?Newcastle if managed correctly should replace spurs in a season or 2. Then it will be Lpool under pressure to spend big just to compete. There aren't any hiding places in the prem. Being run properly off and on the pitch is almost as important as the money available.
