Disclaimer () Jim Bennings 1 Posted 15/04/2023 at 13:26:31 Villa a prime example of how it doesn't take the fabled three years to get a football team looking half decent.Earlier this season they looked almost as shite as us but the sacking of Gerrard and shrewd Unai Emery appointment has worked instant dividends.Never understood why I still hear the "it takes 3 years" bullshit, it doesn't.It takes a manager, coaching staff and some players with a little bit of hunger and common sense a few months to climb on board the project. Will Mabon 2 Posted 15/04/2023 at 13:47:17 Jim, agreed. For all the endless noise, the old maxim holds true across most areas of the sport: football is a simple game. Bill Gall 3 Posted 15/04/2023 at 13:52:42 So A.Gordon gets Substituted again, no moaning this time, Dale Self 4 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:08:44 Newcastle lioking beatable at Giodison in two weeks. Spacing in the middle has limited Guimares and left the back line exposed Will Mabon 5 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:10:29 Villa's 6 game form matching Arsenal and City, and with a win today - 6 wins, 1 draw in the last seven. Bill Gall 6 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:15:33 Villa winning 3--0 Colin Glassar 7 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:17:16 I must admit it, despite losing today, Eddie Howe and Sun-bed Bob have done an amazing job at Newcastle. As has Unai ‘good evening' Emery at Villa. Soren Moyer 8 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:17:49 We can beat skunks easily at Goodison Park. Nick Page 9 Posted 15/04/2023 at 14:29:09 Saw some of that Villa match. Hard to believe what Emery has done, and very much like Howe last year. Just shows what having a balanced squad can do. Bill Gall 10 Posted 15/04/2023 at 17:40:17 J Stones just started City on what I hope will be a big score Bill Gall 11 Posted 15/04/2023 at 17:43:50 City 2 goals up after 12 min Bill Gall 12 Posted 15/04/2023 at 17:58:18 The only way you can stop that Haarland scoring is put 3 men on him but that leaves 3/4 other players who can score. will pass Shearers record this season. James Hughes 15 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:10:35 Alreasy 2-0 up, that was well worked Kunal Desai 16 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:13:22 Arsenal will batter these lot by 4 or 5 Dale Self 17 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:22:04 Ah, the pleasure of watching others implode. Psst, we are not going down so there Paul Hewitt 18 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:26:11 I've a horrible feeling forest will beat utd. United have lost their regular CB's and have a big game on Thursday. Rob Halligan 19 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:31:35 Paul, at the moment Man Utd's best chance of champions league next season is via their league placing. I doubt they will care about the Europa League if they can finish in the top four. I know winning the Europa League will qualify them for the CL, but it's a chance they cannot take. Todays game is bigger for them. They will beat Forest today. Dale Self 20 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:33:34 Paul, don't you have us staying up wirh 37 points on the other thread? Bill Gall 21 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:33:36 Penalty for West Ham Arsenal taking it to easy Hammers score Paul Smith 22 Posted 16/04/2023 at 14:34:53 Aged well that, Kunal. I wouldn't be surprised if West Ham, Forrest and Leeds all win. Dale Self 42 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:25:47 Poor decision bt Saka. Should have laid it off to Holding. Trossard will help us out here Joe McMahon 43 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:26:26 Jim, WHU have a lot more quality in their squad. Moyes inherited a lot better team than the dross Benitez, Lampard and Dyche now has. Everyone's savour Moyes would struggle with the crap we have. Dale Self 44 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:34:44 I guess ol fuckin Moyes would take a point here so arse will have to break them down around the box. Dale Self 45 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:42:12 Okay everyone touch your hands to your skull. He was offside Michael Lynch 46 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:42:24 Fair play to West Ham, they've bossed this since their first goal. There's no way they're going down, they look up for the fight Bill Gall 47 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:47:38 Going to take a long range effort from Arsenal if they want 3pts Colin Glassar 48 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:54:15 That's our problem, Michael. Our squad is the poorest out of the bottom six. Do they have the fight in them to compensate for their lack of quality? I have my doubts. Bill Gall 49 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:57:15 That puts from 15th and up more than 3pts ahead of Everton Eddie Dunn 50 Posted 16/04/2023 at 15:57:32 The fight in Antonio and Bowen contrasts with Maupay, Gray and Iwobi. Just shows what a poncey bunch of spineless wankers we have. Dale Self 51 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:01:12 That just made it a race at the top. As for West Ham, there still in it. Only City and Brighton have lineups and systems that give us little chance. All of the other teams we have left are not dominant. With Doucoure and Onana back in midfield we could find our way to some unexpected points. Bill Gall 52 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:02:39 All the other teams have goal scorers we don't, plus West Ham have a game in hand Tony Abrahams 53 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:04:55 Watched the last twenty minutes thinking it's not rocket science sitting deep, closing the spaces, forcing a team to play in front of you, and then looking to break forward quickly on the counterattack. This was exactly how Everton were playing before they went to Old Trafford. Sensible football, playing to our strengths, and working very, very hard for each other, was building both confidence and momentum, and it's truly baffling why we have suddenly changed our formation away from something that was slowly grinding us points. Joe McMahon 54 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:06:27 Eddie, you could argue that non of the matchday Everton squad yesterday would make the West Ham starting 11. Potentially Pickford, and Mina? But Mina doesn't seem to feature even when fit with our latest manager! Barry Hesketh 55 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:07:34 Well we'll all have to hope that our two 'favourite' red teams can get the right results in their matches today and tomorrow, ugh! even thinking that makes me feel ill, but beggars can't be choosers. It's between us and the others in the bottom five now. Leicester have to play Leeds and ourselves, and Forest have to play Southampton in the games between those bottom five teams. Arsenal two up in two away games and pegged back twice, they'll probably have to beat Man City to win the title now. Dave Abrahams 56 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:09:26 Aresenal got out battled for the second week running in fact I thought they were lucky to get a point after starting so well, they are a young side and maybe the inexperience is starting to show. Ajay Gopal 57 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:10:43 Bill (52), that is exactly right. We don't have goal scorers. Unless DCL comes back or Simms suddenly turns into this goal machine, I am quite sure we will go down: Every team at the bottom seems to have better goal scorers than us. The commentator yesterday said that Everton's 3 strikers - DCL, Simms, Maupay have scored just 1 goal each all season. That is as damning a statistic as you can get about EFC. But players like Gray, Iwobi, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Maupay should never play a game again this season. Play the kids if necessary- you never know, they may surprise us! Eddie Dunn 58 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:23:27 Joe- probably correct there.Dave - I have noticed that Arsenal under Arteta have overplayed, indeed ManCity under Pep have done the same. Sometimes mixing it up is a good alternative. In a game like that the Arsenal players showed that they lacked the bottle to carry on playing through the press, just like at Anfield last week and as you say, they could have lost both games. I think that City will beat them and Arsenal will fall short. Robert Tressell 59 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:24:15 Tony # 53 this is going to sound arsey even though I agree with a lot of what you say: but when you say we should play to our strengths - what do you mean? With the squad available yesterday what are our strengths? And how do we play to them? Joe McMahon 60 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:25:26 Ajay, that 1 goal per striker statistic is as damning as you can get for any professional or even amateur football team.Pitiful doesn't even cover it. Dale Self 61 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:27:17 Statistics be damned not Everton! Dale Self 62 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:35:53 United might be playing with ten soon. Tony Abrahams 63 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:47:10 Five across the midfield close to each other, working hard, closing the spaces, and then looking to get forward whenever we could. You could see the players were not enjoying it, Pickford especially kept turning his back in despair Robert, but we kept Hitting it long in the air, and this was food and drink for the Fulham defenders.Pass the ball, five yards ten yards, we did it once and opened up Fulham like a tin of beans, but mostly we never troubled them and played a game that suited our opponents down to the ground.Watching United, McGuire booked in the second minute cos Forest are defending deep and then looking to break quickly. It draws players out of their defensive position because they get drawn towards the ball, imo. Dyche got it wrong at United and carried on in the same vein yesterday. Of course we lack creativity, which surely means rule number one should be about trying to make it hard for your opponents to be creative? This might have even helped engage the crowd instead of sucking the life out of it, is how I saw it yesterday Robert. Bill Gall 64 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:54:24 Ajay I think you are being a bit harsh on Simms that was his first goal since being recalled, and he was only a substitution. David Bromwell 65 Posted 16/04/2023 at 16:58:09 Robert 59, you ask what are our strengths ? Well the only area where we have any strength has to be at centre back, in Mina, Coady and Holgate and to my mind we have to find a system where at least one of them can play. This would allow us to play wing backs which I think would suit Patterson and even allow us sight of Vinagre. Yesterday once again proved that Mawpay and Davies are not 1st team quality even for Everton. On balance for next week I would bring in Coady, who apparently is at his best in a back three, keep in Garner as his corners and dead balls looked good, play with the wind and hope for the best. Dale Self 66 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:02:27 Lovely. Forest 0-1 MU Rob Halligan 67 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:02:29 Man Utd lead. Never normally want them to win, but needs must. Gerry Quinn 68 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:03:49 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11978371/Evertons-rivals-pushing-sanctions-imposed-club-season.html Tony Everan 69 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:06:51 Tony, RobertRobert's got a point about what are the alternatives, they don't make anyone's heart beat faster. But I agree, we needed five across midfield yesterday, same system as has been working, the only option really was Davies and Garner either side of Gana, with the former two give license to support attacks with Gana holding the fort. Gray on his own up front McNeill, Iwobi the wide midfield duties. Maupay on the bench. We would have been more compact and harder to play against, whether the makeshift midfield are good enough for us to get three points is very debatable. But still I think we would have had a better outcome yesterday using it. Dale Self 70 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:09:55 Forest forwards piss me off the way they run up on kickers with other cheap tricks and then play act for fouls. Body posture and facial expressions make it look coached. Okay and now that you chimed in, I'm wondering if both stamina and Duke's unique close downs were the reason for the system change. Without him McNeil is too slow and Iwobi too ineffective to help whover tries to replace him. They would just get run down and we had already been playing the same eleven for a while. Tried for early goals and had chances but that was the only card to play. Paul Birmingham 71 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:11:34 Tony, excellent summary of yesterday, and sadly the result, has changed the dynamics, and today and tomorrow we need favours, United and the RS.Hopefully Utd can put a few more away today and increase the Forest - neg GD. Pete Clarke 72 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:22:08 On yesterday's performance we will be lucky to get a point from the remaining games if Dyche does not get them back to basics. Admittedly we were without a few of our better players but that was one of the worst performances I have ever seen at top level football. It wasn't even surrender but was more akin to watching a bunch of kids who have never played the game before. Fulham were coming into that game on the back of an horrendous bit of form but they sensed our fear and tore us to shreds. There was a complete dereliction of duty by too many players and it showed that without Seamus Coleman we have no leader to drive us on. Hopefully Coleman and Doucouré are back next week and Maupay is nowhere near the squad. Hoofball can work sometimes but we embarrassed ourselves trying to get it up to him. We are lucky to be still in with a chance of survival but that's more down to other teams results and we are now well and truly in the last chance saloon for survival. A better way of putting it may be to use that old proverb of, “A drowning man will clutch at straws.†James Newcombe 73 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:32:43 West Ham have too much quality, they'll be fine. Bournemouth can do this amazing thing called scoring goals, which means they'll be okay. Leeds are right in it as well; but if any of that bottom three get their act together, I think we are done. This club gets what it deserves. You ask any fan last summer about Maupay. They would point out that he pops up with goals for Brighton, but that they create far more chances than Everton. And he isn't suited as a lone striker because he has no pace and isn't a target man. In short, the last kind of forward we should sign. Someone presumably on many thousands of pounds a week, can't see the obvious and we waste more money. And who the Hell scouted Mykolenko? Dale Self 74 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:45:51 Damn Ratface Jr showed up today but has had some bad luck and nonruns. Off the crossbar from a worked corner. Navas touched it otherwise in. Michael Lynch 75 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:56:00 I really wish United would finish this one off, I'm shitting it here. Tony Everan 76 Posted 16/04/2023 at 17:56:44 Dale, It was some shot that, deserved a goal. The save was so good I didn't pick it up in real time. Jeff Armstrong 77 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:00:09 If that was against us Martial scores Tony Abrahams 78 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:00:20 United rarely go for the jugular Michael. It cost them on Thursday night, I hope it doesn't cost them now Tony Everan 79 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:00:44 Should be about 0-5 the chances Man U have missed. Michael Lynch 80 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:04:02 Yes Tony (both of you), and this is starting to get the whiff of one of those mad last minute equalisers. Brent Stephens 81 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:04:10 Phew Rob Halligan 82 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:04:23 Well that was a great united goal. Dale Self 83 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:04:41 Relief! Forest 0-2 MUYeah Rob Dalot has been making some good runs. Thought Bruno would connect him but Antony finally found him nicely there. He kicked the shit out of Johnson on what looked like a message about running up on a kick early in the match. Michael Lynch 84 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:04:59 Thank fuck for that Michael Lynch 85 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:05:57 That goal was actually a thing of great beauty Jeff Armstrong 86 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:07:10 Dalot a defender, does what Maupey couldn't, very similar chance. Eddie Dunn 87 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:07:26 phew! Rob Halligan 88 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:15:24 Man Utd could easily have had five or six here. Still, two is good enough. Dale Self 89 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:22:30 Yay. Paul Birmingham 90 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:23:52 Good news, indeed. Now can the RS, beat Leeds tomorrow night? Eddie Dunn 91 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:24:20 Amazingly we are not in the bottom three! Now let's hope for a Leeds defeat tomorrow. Will Mabon 92 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:25:38 This is gonna be every week/matchday 'til the very end. Painful. Bill Gall 93 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:25:43 Just shows the poor state we are in, having to rely on other teams to keep us out of the bottom 3. Michael Lynch 94 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:25:45 So it's as you were in the relegation battle - the four serious contenders for the drop all lost. To be fair, Leicester and Forest lost to top four teams, whereas we missed an opportunity for at least a point against an out of form Fulham. Will Mabon 95 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:28:11 Michael, it was really was an opportunity missed. Rob Halligan 96 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:34:30 Can the RS go to Leeds tomorrow and win, then follow that up with a victory against Forest next Saturday? If they still want European football next season then they need to start winning again. No better time than now…………(Washes mouth out with soapy water). Barry Hesketh 97 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:36:04 I suppose one way of looking at the last seven fixtures in a positive way, is to say as long as Everton match or better the results of Forest, Leicester and Southampton, we'll stay up. John Atkins 98 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:36:21 I'll take it that we have to beat Bournemouth last game of the season to stay up Robert Tressell 99 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:39:40 David # 65, I think Allardyce would play a back 3 in order to get 3 tall CBs into the side for set pieces. Possibly also a duo of Maupay and Simms up front. This would be accompanied by no attempt whatsoever to play any decent football. Although, Tony, we definitely should play a passing game - I don't think any manager has really believed we have the quality to do it since Silva (apart from a brief spell under Ancelotti until we got found out and Lampard in a fairly shambolic unconvincing sort of way).Like I say, I do agree Dyche got it wrong but it's a lot easier to get it right with a decent set of players. Joe McMahon 100 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:39:52 It's so annoying if we had won yesterday, like we all thought we would then a gap would be opening leaving the bottom 3. But we all know how it goes, and we didn't. Danny O’Neill 101 Posted 16/04/2023 at 18:44:56 Rob @96, its definitely time to wish evil things, take to the confession box and say our Hail Mary's. Tony Abrahams 102 Posted 16/04/2023 at 19:01:20 That's an interesting point Robert, with regards Allardyce, playing three big central defenders Robert.I think the less you have got the more people will accept anything just as long as the players work hard and fight for the shirt, and our tactics never really enabled us to do this yesterday.Anyone seen the great tackle that got Samuel-Smith sent off against Liverpool under 21's today? Bill Gall 103 Posted 16/04/2023 at 19:04:34 Rob I hope that comment gets rubbed out soon, you don't want anyone noticing you want the other lot to win Rob Halligan 104 Posted 16/04/2023 at 19:49:08 Bill, maybe I should have used a pseudonym!! Dave Abrahams 105 Posted 16/04/2023 at 20:33:26 Tony (102) I'm guessing you never saw the game Tony, it was the very poor tackle the young lad made just before the excellent one he produced on the winger who made a meal of the situation, unfortunately it was a yellow and his second one so he had to go off. Tony Everan 106 Posted 16/04/2023 at 20:39:59 Yeah the one Tony's referring too a second later was a really fantastic tackle. The one a second earlier was late and a yellow card. Ishe Samuels-Smith is still only16, and was a bit rash at times and out of position, but it is clear to see that he has great potential, still a way to go but no wonder Dyche has him with first team training. Paul Birmingham 107 Posted 16/04/2023 at 21:47:46 Bill, it's hard times, alas, but a fact of this season, for Everton, and to stay in this League.I never want United, RS, to win, but the facts are cast iron, and Everton, need some good fortune, over the next month.I still believe Everton, can get a point at Palace, beat Leicester and Wolves away, and at least draw with the Skunks at home, which is normally a feisty game. How they react to their defeat will be interesting. City could have an unlikely off day against Everton, but who knows.Burnley beat them a few times under Sean Dyche, at The Etihad.Everton, to win v Bournemouth, in the last game as well. There's been so many surprise results, the last few weeks, and it will continue to the last day of this season.Everton, have a real rack of tough games, to finish this season, but Id say Forest, Leeds, and West Ham's, games are tougher, and Leicester, similar to Evertons matches, in terms of opponents. But it's up to Everton to turn up and try and win their remaining games, and aim to take points. Let's see, but I hope it's not down to the last game.Fate and fortune, West Ham, are on a run, - Fulham, and today, and perhaps could have won today.Everton, we need some luck, and some clinical finishing. Hopefully at Palace.UTFTs! Neil Copeland 108 Posted 16/04/2023 at 22:07:10 Paul #107, I think we got a little bit of luck today with West Ham not winning. Although they came back from 2 down to draw, Arsenal bottled it and were there for the taking.Anyway, stuff the rest of them let's just win our games snd we will be fine. Plenty to play for, just need to keep believing! Every game is winnable, if we can beat an in form Arsenal then we can beat anyone, Bring on Palace!UTFT! Paul Birmingham 109 Posted 16/04/2023 at 22:22:47 Neil, agreed it's very fine margins, and yes that would have been a serious blow, but it's down to Everton, to control their destiny, and seriously hoping for a turn up and performance v Palace.UTFTs! Paul Smith 110 Posted 16/04/2023 at 22:40:14 I think we have won 3 games away in 3 years so why ppl think we can suddenly win 2 in a row is beyond me. We're bang in trouble and Leicester have better players than us. I fully expected a win yesterday and can't believe how dire we were. We look like the 3rd worst team in the Premier league. We need a miracle. Bill Gall 111 Posted 16/04/2023 at 23:38:59 . Paul Birmingham 112 Posted 16/04/2023 at 23:51:11 Paul, spot on par, zackly, but collectively as Evertonians, we can achieve the miracle, needed, this season, to be in this League next season.Focus on the Palace game, and it will take stick in this and the after life, for wishing Old Nick to win their games, this season, which can benefit Evertons, cause.Forest, West Ham, Leicester, and Soton. If they win these games it helps the Everton cause, because the relegation zone, has never been so tight. But it's not a guarantee, of survival, but increases the Everton chances of staying in the EPL.UTFTs! Jay Harris 113 Posted 17/04/2023 at 00:30:47 The problem we have has been staring us in the face since Lukaku and Deulofeu went.We just don't have goalscorers and when the defence and MF are not up to par we concede goals and then cant get back into a game. The initial KITAP1has evaporated along with the absence Doucoure, Onana and Coleman. On form we are definitely the worst team in the Premiership and its only the lift the supporters give them and the efforts of one or two players that are keeping us out of the bottom three. All the bottom teams have a difficlt run in bu we are the ones not in form and Who cant see Leicester pulling a rabbit out of the hat.We just have to hope that Leeds have a collapse and we pick up some points somewhere.I do believe 36+ will be needed so where do we get 9 points from, We cant even draw every game now becuase that wont be enough. Kieran Kinsella 114 Posted 17/04/2023 at 03:52:18 Teta slagging off Arsenal for not having killer instinct. This from the water carrier who couldn't take a corner or show up when we played the RS, Mab Utd etc. what a hypocrite. He's got a team of kids and he's throwing a hissy fit that while they've outdone his sorry failure of a career that they are struggling to overturn Man City's billionaires who have years of experience. Eric Myles 115 Posted 17/04/2023 at 06:30:45 John #98, what do they say about history always repeating itself? Dave Abrahams 116 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:26:16 Love all the positive posts, they'll do me, skipping past the negative ones, might have a bet on Leeds winning tonight because I'm not very good at picking winners and my bet on Leeds might cry Liverpool home!! Danny O’Neill 117 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:36:12 Great to finally meet you in person Dave.I for one am going to be willing the cousins on tonight.I'm bitter and twisted. But right now, all that matters is Everton. It is all that matters.Marching to Selhurst Park. Tony Everan 118 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:41:38 Hear, hear, to Liverpool winning tonight ….and us beating them twice next season. Sounds more palatable! Steve Brown 119 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:42:51 Based on remaining fixtures, I can't see Soton, Forest or Leicester getting above 33 points. So everything to play for - and why it is so infuriating to lose last Saturday. Barry Hesketh 120 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:47:27 Since Dyche arrived, the teams in the bottom five have managed the following:Everton 12 points from 11 gamesLeeds Utd 11 from 11Southampton 8 from 11Leicester 7 points from 11 Nottm Forest 6 from 11The last six games for Everton has yielded six points, less than we would have hoped for, but Leeds have taken 7 points, Leicester only one point, Southampton 2 points, and Forest one point. I can't see where this fabled momentum shift is coming from? I hope the last seven matches for all those sides continues with the same trend, we'd be safe! Tony Abrahams 121 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:53:43 So an excellent tackle might get you sent off nowadays Dave, just because you've made a bad one a few minutes previously? Sometimes I genuinely hate football nowadays because of poor officials getting kidded by cheats, and if I had it my way I'd bring in an automatic sin-bin for cheating. This might work, they could try and straighten the game out whilst keeping the obvious controversy, that this major television sport now requires. Even if yesterday's game was only an under 21's game! Dave Abrahams 122 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:58:02 Danny (117), Not as much as I was pleased to meet you, what an Evertonian and your smile told me that nothing will get you down, you've seen too much to let life get you down unless it comes to your family and Everton of course.I hope to see you in the future and have a good drink with you, didn't have a drink on Saturday before the game because I'd be up and down during the game going for a ‘ hit and a miss' I hope you caught the early train you were hoping to get. Best wishes Danny, a draw on Saturday will start the points coming in and on to another season in the premier league. Rob Halligan 123 Posted 17/04/2023 at 11:59:35 Since the premier league resumed following the World Cup, leicester have played sixteen games, won one, drew two and lost thirteen. They have lost eight out of the last nine, and yet some seem to think their class players will be enough to guide them to safety. If they were that classy, where have they been for the last sixteen matches? Bottom three as it stands now, will be the bottom three come the end of the season. Dave Abrahams 124 Posted 17/04/2023 at 12:04:39 Tony (121) I understand your last two paragraphs perfectly Tony, but the first, very bad, tackle happened literally five seconds before the second one and I think the referee had blown up for the first tackle, as I said Tony I don't think you saw the game or the incident because I know you would have understood that the referee was correct on this occasion, unless of course you'd had a few Guinness and when the ales in the wit is out!! Tony Everan 125 Posted 17/04/2023 at 12:11:30 You'd have to watch it Tony, Ishe took the RS player out with a late tackle, immediately the RS player got up and tried to attack, then Ishe reacts and does the perfect tackle on him. The yellow for the first one was justified. All happened in a couple of seconds. Jim Lloyd 126 Posted 17/04/2023 at 12:57:58 Dave, Danny, Tony, It was great at the pub on Saturday having a good natter with you all and all the other lads making it a ToffeeWeb Live! Great putting names to faces I respect for football knowledge and quite a bit of wit as well. There's no point in writing that we played well on Saturday; we didn't.I couldn't make me mind up whether Fulham played really well, or we were that bad, we let them. A bit of both I think. I'm made up up for Silva; I think we got shut of him way too early. As for us? Our defficiencies were glaring and with DCL, Doucouré and Seamus missing it's no wonder. However. As poor as we were; we scored a really good goal and missed two what should have been certain goals. Those two chances were also well worked. Now what those would have done to Fulham's confidence, who knows! Our defence looked very vulnerable, so I hope we can get Seamus and Doucouré back and do our best to be hard to break down and take our chances instead of fluffing them! As for Liverpool winning tonight, I hope they whack every one of our competitors they play between now and the season end. Mind you I hope every team, including us,beat them an all!.I'll just put in here, some thoughts while I was sitting in the parlour watching the match, while those True Blues had gone the match to join the many thousands more. From the days of St Domingo's when lads got together to form our first team right up to now, only once have we been relegated and that was for 3 years. I know the danger we're in will be fought in every game by the players and the supporters. The danger we're in now has been due to a 30 year trail of misrule, left by that snail who crept in and became our Chairman. Kenwright. Whatever happens, I hope he slides out of Goodison Park and takes his sidekicks with him. Steve Brown 127 Posted 17/04/2023 at 13:46:33 Rob @ 123, I agree and posted somewhere on here today (can't remember where) that I don't think Soton, Leicester or Forest will top 33 points. We should have pulled away from them on Saturday.BUT, we need to start pulling our finger out and find at least 2-3 wins from our remaining 7 games. Simplify the game plan, back to 4-5-1 and up the intensity by 100% from the Fulham game. Barry Hesketh 128 Posted 17/04/2023 at 14:05:57 Jim @126The Everton team that were crowned champions in 1928, suffered relegation in the 1929-30 season, they bounced back immediately and went on to win the league and the FA Cup in consecutive seasons. Of course the last relegation was in 1951, therefore Everton have spent 4 seasons outside the top league. Jim Lloyd 129 Posted 17/04/2023 at 14:30:17 Thanks Barry, Was it 33 when we won the FA Cup? Christopher Timmins 130 Posted 17/04/2023 at 14:34:41 A general consensus that we are now very good, indeed we are very poor and the only way forward over the next 7 games is to go with 4-5-1 and hope that the rub of the green goes our way. Lots of Hail Mary's to be said so. Steve Brown 131 Posted 17/04/2023 at 14:48:42 Christopher, playing 4-5-1 got us results.Everytime Dyche has swiitched away from it we have lost. That is because the players can only work in the most simple of systems.Ancelotti understood it, Lampard figured it out and Dyche implemented it from day 1 with success. He evidently feels he needs certain players to implement it, hence the switch to 4-4-2.What is 100% certain is that this squad cannot win a game in any other formation. Barry Hesketh 132 Posted 17/04/2023 at 15:12:44 Yes Jim it was 1933 we won the cup. So it was promotion in 1931, Champions in 1932 and FA Cup winners in 1933. Dave Lynch 133 Posted 17/04/2023 at 16:09:05 Leicester suffered under Rogers; like Benitez, he lost the players' confidence. They will get that new manager bounce we got and guess who against? Bill Gall 134 Posted 17/04/2023 at 16:34:56 Another sad situation of the position we are in is the amount of supposed journalists able to have something to write in their columns, are ready to put the boot in, to find and exaggerate any small bit of negative news about Everton. We are on the brink of something that our lesser seen Chairman is to blame for, and he has gone into hiding. How does he expect the players to fight for their Premier League existence when he has no backbone. Dale Self 135 Posted 17/04/2023 at 19:49:36 Thought it was a difficult watch yesterday? Knock back a drink or two and deal with it. Diaz may play so there is that Dale Self 136 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:08:48 Leeds sitting back early looking to counter Red Shite look a bit flat but may play into better form with possession No Bamford. Rob Halligan 137 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:35:33 Shite 1-0. Piss poor game though. Dale Self 138 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:36:02 Im watching so you don't have to. Leeds 0-1 RS Dale Self 139 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:37:33 Leeds were showing some intent but another 1-5 could happen. Rob Halligan 140 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:38:58 Shite 2-0. Jay Harris 141 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:39:30 Once again Var favors them but for once I'm glad. I'll swallow my principles if we stay up. Jay Harris 142 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:39:53 0-2 happy days. Soren Moyer 143 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:39:54 Victims are 2 up. Demarai gray was less than that against Brentford and got ruled out. Soren Moyer 146 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:42:40 Cus its THEM Carl. Soren Moyer 147 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:43:06 Sorry. Karl. Will Mabon 148 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:43:06 Karl, you already know the answer to that one. Nick Page 149 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:44:22 Had the murderers game on, thinking what has happened to these hoping they'd do us a favour for once, went for a piss, come back and Salads got 2. Never changes Dale Self 151 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:47:46 Either Leeds score I'm the first five minutes after the break or it gets ugly. Jack Convery 153 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:48:49 The game is deffo bent. Brighton have deffo pen not called ny ref and VAR, which if they had won that game would have put them 1 pt behind Spurs with 2 games in hand. Shite hand ball not overturned by Var - big 6 team favoured yet again in hunt to secure European football of some sort.It helps us but it stinks. We should all put money on VAR helping City when we play them, after all it did last season !! Jamie Crowley 154 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:50:45 Does anyone else feel like they need to shower? Rob Halligan 155 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:54:06 Karl, I'm sure the commentator said VAR didn't give handball because it was far enough back not to have an immediate impact. Unbelievable. If that's not VAR in favour of the RS then I don't know what is? Karl Jones 156 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:55:03 What's with the big red liverbird at each ad break on sky? Is this the LFC channel by mistake? Nick Page 157 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:55:17 How the absolute fuck is that not a handball….. OMG John Keating 158 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:56:38 Football via VAR is a total jokeRegardless of helping us it's ruining football Michael Lynch 159 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:56:58 That was a nailed on hand ball! How can Carra even pret3nd there's any doubt?I mean I'm delighted and all that, but fuck me - what is VAR for? Even if it wasn't deliberate - which it clearly was - it led to a goal so surely should have been disallowed? Jack Convery 160 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:59:04 Another apology on the way !! Have the big six ever needed an apology ? Rob Halligan 161 Posted 17/04/2023 at 20:59:57 Used to understand the offside rule, and when handball was handball. Now……………..it's all just total bollocks because nobody has a clue anymore what's offside and what's a handball. Soren Moyer 162 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:04:19 Compared to the VAR fiasco at Spurs, this handball decision is nothing! Brighton should have won that game 2-5 but all they got was an apology!!! Jamie Crowley 163 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:05:31 Godda be fuckin' kidding me that goal??? Jay Harris 164 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:06:07 Why don't they make mistakes like that against us Dale Self 165 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:06:39 Thought our third was bad but that was braindead. Jamie Crowley 166 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:06:59 Jay - RIGHT???? Mark Murphy 167 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:07:37 Sorry, I know it's silly, but I hope Leeds come back and beat the twats. KAG Rob Halligan 168 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:09:43 3-1. Jack Convery 169 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:09:57 VAR ensures top 6 get favoured whilst the rest of us get apologies. Juventus docked points for buying refs and now Barca under investigation for payments to refs. Who is to say it's not going on here. The money involved and the need for European football for the investment made, ensures it;s more likely than not these days. Jamie Crowley 170 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:10:25 There's the slime fuckers splitting open the neanderthals. 3-1 Soren Moyer 171 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:10:46 1-3 Tony Everan 172 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:11:22 Leeds are shite, going to be 1-5 Lee Courtliff 173 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:11:32 Can't believe I've been reduced to celebrating Liverpool scoring...fuck you Kenwright, Moshiri, Walsh and every other twat that's responsible for our predicament! Jeff Armstrong 184 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:23:48 Got to say I hate them but that was a decent goal. Soren Moyer 185 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:23:55 Thats it then. 2nd 5-1 hammering in 7 days. Tony Everan 186 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:26:21 Leeds defence is very shaky, can't see them getting many points at all in their last four games either. Man City, Newcastle, West Ham away and Spurs. Dale Self 187 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:26:52 -18 really isn't enough for a shit team like Leeds. More please David Vaughan 188 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:28:19 Sky's Laura Hunter - "This is ruthless Liverpool at their very best. Leeds are completely overwhelmed. Michael Lynch 193 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:33:17 How are these two points ahead of us? They're terrible. Jim Bennings 194 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:33:29 The luxury of having world class marksmen in front of goal you see. There isn't a single Everton attacker that would even get in Liverpool's reserves sadly. Soren Moyer 195 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:33:52 Amazingly they are 2 points ahead of us! We must be really shite. Kieran Kinsella 196 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:34:02 Credit to Leeds for keeping the relegation fight interesting. Most self interested teams would have carved out a 1-0 over Palace and a 0-0 here. But good of them to not only refuse to pick up points but to flip their goal difference on its head in two weeks. If only 18 team other teams had that kind of attitude we might be looking at a top 15 finish. Ian Jones 197 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:34:16 To be fair, Leeds must be bad. We beat them Joe McMahon 198 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:35:31 I've just check score for the first time, I did read yet again that horrible TAA handball, but could you imagine an Everton team scoring so many in an away match recently. We live off crumbs, it's adifferent world. I do remember Silva when with us thrashing Burnley/Dyche 1 - 5 at Turf Moor on boxing day one year. The irony of it all! Oliver Molloy 199 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:35:54 Anthony @ 190, Yes they are and yet they are two points ahead of us ! Kieran Kinsella 200 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:37:10 Like men against children, something unseen in Leeds since the days of Jimmy Saville. Tony Everan 201 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:37:25 When we play compact 451 we are a better team than Leeds even without DCL, with him better still . We just need to grind out the wins and draws like before the Man U match. If we can get a few players coming back into the side we can do it. Joe McMahon 203 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:39:21 Correct Oliver, and we have to find the 2 points first ourselves! Dale Self 204 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:39:32 Firmino is worth a couple in 10 min. He is smiling viciously already. Tony Everan 205 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:41:02 They can turn the floodlights off now, Firmino's teeth are coming on, Dale Self 206 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:44:06 Jurgy wants them all to relive the glory for a final run for top four. Desperate fuck. Gary Brown 207 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:47:37 Leeds, Southampton and Forrest are worse teams than us. The issue is 1) splitting hairs and 2) who can somehow fluke points before end of year. Could honestly see 33/34 being enough. Soren Moyer 208 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:47:51 Leicester game is THE must win game now! We win that we give ourselves a great chance to stay up. Failing to do so will almost certainly send us down!Absolute last chance saloon. And forget palace because we'll be beaten over there. Dale Self 209 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:48:07 I was about to say ‘what is all this tippy-tappy shit?' Brent Stephens 210 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:48:15 Six for kicks. Seven and I'll be in heaven. Danny O’Neill 219 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:50:52 I was just about to say 10 goals shipped in 2 home games. It's now 11. It's a strange feeling isn't it Lee @173?Unnatural and unholy. Mick Davies 220 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:52:24 Soren, they're one better than us, and they've scored much more than us, which I'm sure is a tie-breaker at the end of the season (if it comes to that). Message to the board: Resign please, as you've got me wanting the enemy to win and win big. Tony Everan 221 Posted 17/04/2023 at 21:52:53 May be 7 soon, Leeds all over the place. Mike Connolly 231 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:08:00 Big picture: we need them to dig us out of the shite because we are finding it hard to do it ourselves. Jay Harris 232 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:08:57 They've shipped 11 in the last 2 games but still have a 2 goal advantage on GD and 2 points better off. Just hope we get something out of the Palace game. Bill Gall 233 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:11:06 Started to watch Match of the Day after the game. What would these TV people do without ex-Liverpool players? Owen and McManaman, when did they dig him back up? Mick Davies 234 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:11:39 Oliver, I agree: Lampard's managerial record, with 3 clubs (one twice) must be the most disappointing ever. Totally out of his depth and needs to just go to the media circus as it's the only thing he's good at. Soren Moyer 235 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:12:56 Lol. All teams around us have to play Liverpool, except Bournemouth! Kieran Kinsella 236 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:13:12 Rob,I know a Vatican-ordained exorcist if that helps? Barry Hesketh 237 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:16:55 if the other lot or any side above us beat the teams below us - if they have to play any - by three, four, five or ten goals I'd be happy because it would help our cause, I'm only ever interested in Everton and if other teams even ones that we despise, help us I'll take it. But the real question is: Can Everton do themselves enough favours in the remaining fixtures? – that's the most important part of the equation. Barry McNally 238 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:17:10 The Premier League is the hardest league to get of – you have to be absolute shite to get relegated! Everton and Leeds are doing their damnedest for that to happen. Kieran Kinsella 239 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:17:53 Usually relegated teams stand out for particular stats. As things stand:Fewest wins: Everton and Forest 6Most defeats: Leicester and Soton 20Fewest scored: Everton and Forest 24Most conceded: Leeds 60Worst goal difference: Forest -32Forest pick up three unwanted awards. Luckily the bottom 3 all have at least six game streaks without and win and two of them fewer points than us so far. Bill Gall 240 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:18:11 Rob, if you want it out of the bottle, Heineken is not bad have enough so you don't remember your sins. Derek Thomas 241 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:25:01 6! That's made it interesting; but we're still next to bottom on GD in a 6 team mini league. Andy Crooks 242 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:31:12 Rob, you sold your soul for all of us mate!!! Will Mabon 243 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:38:22 Nick,it's no wonder that people occasionally speculate as to the intention. Probably some sort of achievement that we're still here in the fight (again) with essentially no attacking force. Barry Hesketh 244 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:39:26 Derek @242How are we next to bottom on GD in 6 team mini-league? We are 7 better off than Saints, and 10 better off than Forest and after tonight only 2 goals worse off than Leeds:West Ham -12Leeds -20Everton -22 Nottm Forest -32 Leicester -14 Southampton -29If we end up with a point more but with a worse goal difference than all of the bottom three after the last game, who at Goodison will care? David Currie 245 Posted 17/04/2023 at 22:53:03 Horrible weekend losing to Fulham at home, but Leicester, Forest and Leeds all losing to good teams helped us out. Time for us to now step up and get the job done on Saturday at Palace and get 3 big points. Leicester will beat Wolves at home and Leeds are capable of beating Fulham away. Danny O’Neill 246 Posted 17/04/2023 at 23:00:34 Rob,I have two sets of Rosary Beads. One from Bethlehem and one from the Vatican.I have a cross of Jesus from Jerusalem.I'll bring them all to the next one. We can exorcise you and pray to the great Evertonian in the sky. Tom Bowers 247 Posted 17/04/2023 at 23:02:38 These remaining few games will be tough for all fans of teams in the bottom six and it will be a nervy next few weeks.Going to be nip and tuck until the last game I fear.If we had any decent striker I would say right now we would be safe but we don't and we aren't.Will DCL be fit for the Palace game and if so will he be a factor.Palace are safe but like Fulham can still win minus their go-to guys up front like Zaha and Mitrovic which cannot be said about Everton unless the defenders pop one in. The Leeds result today was bittersweet for obvious reasons but conceding six was a bonus because it helps with the goal difference if it comes down to that. One thing for sure is that next season Pickford will be elsewhere no matter what happens now. Fran Mitchell 248 Posted 17/04/2023 at 23:04:48 We desperately need something from Palace, Newcastle and Leicester games. 5 points from those 3, and likely defeats against Wolves, City, and Brighton. Sets us up to a last day survival game against Bournemouth. so hopefully 8 points, taking us to 35. Possibly just 30-33Leeds have Fulham, Leicester, Bournemouth, City, Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs. The Leicester game is the one that stands out, and maybe they get a draw or two out of West Ham, Spurs, Bournemouth. Potentially 8 points, more likely 5, possibly just 3. so I'll assume between 31-35 points.Leicester have Wolves, Leeds, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Newcastle, West Ham. They have a run of games that could save them ( a la Palace) with a new manager bounce, or equally be the final nail. They could get 3 wins out of 7, or 0. I'd hazard between 3-10 points, so between 30 and 37, and our survival depends much on them not gaining any boost.West Ham will play both Leeds and Leicester, so we could really do with West Ham winning both them and thus getting away from danger themselves. the rest of their games, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Palace, City, Man Utd, Brentford could yield 0 points, more likely something closer to 4. so they'll end, I expect, with between 7-10 points, so 38 and 41 points.Southampton and Forest, imo, are done for (and if they do unexpectedly get the points, we're screwed). Bournemouth are out of it (just shows what managing a couple ok wins can do). This is going down to the wire. Rob Halligan 249 Posted 17/04/2023 at 23:21:24 Remember our mate from the Skunks game last season, who chained his head to a goal post? Alan Johnson 251 Posted 18/04/2023 at 08:25:42 Well done, Liverpool. Never thought I would ever say this... Eddie Dunn 252 Posted 18/04/2023 at 17:28:11 Just read that we had a friendly with Chester behind closed doors today. The 6th-tier outfit beat us 1-0. Our team featured Calvert-Lewin, Coady, Doucouré, Mina, Patterson, Davies and Simms.Pretty sad state of affairs! Dale Self 253 Posted 18/04/2023 at 17:48:14 Assuming that was arranged entirely for DCL's situation does this say something about the others' level of support for DCL or just a result of instruction for low intensity for an almost meaningless match? Jay Harris 254 Posted 18/04/2023 at 18:02:02 Dale, even coasting, you would expect that bunch of players to do a lot better against a non-league side.Looks like they are not even arsed to play themselves into first-team contention. Ian Bennett 255 Posted 18/04/2023 at 18:40:40 Why is anyone surprised against Chester? We do the same in the cups every season. The club is rotten to the core. Will Mabon 256 Posted 18/04/2023 at 18:46:34 More than a league below, it used to be a foregone conclusion, anything else was an upset. Not any more and certainly not currently for us.Perhaps we were being particularly careful. Dale Self 257 Posted 18/04/2023 at 18:52:14 Yeah, don't want to start a small fire – just thought it likely that it was more a workout game where they knew we needed to get the ball to Calvert-Lewin and so really wasn't a competitive setup. Rob Halligan 258 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:12:48 Probably a game where any form of contact and tackling was not allowed. I can't believe some get so upset about a fuck-all game. Still, I suppose it's something else to moan about. Mike Doyle 259 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:16:05 Rob #258, Any further news from your mole at Finch Farm … on anything really? It's a slow news day. Rob Halligan 260 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:18:31 Sorry Mike. Nothing today. I'll keep you informed on any news!! Tony Everan 261 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:28:17 Don't worry about he result, it was an exercise in trying to get some match fitness into Calvert-Lewin and maybe keep Doucouré ticking over. I hope Dominic came through it okay and the injury rumour was way off the mark. Maybe they just wanted to give him a set amount of time and then took him off. Eddie Dunn 262 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:51:28 Rob, fair point, but at present, I am moaning about everything. Our lads probably treated it like a bit of a chance to have some training that had a bit more edge. Not sure about the tackling etc, but naturally the non-league lads would want to make a point.Generally speaking, fine margins are what define elite athletes in any sport. However top players should outclass non-league ones.On a positive note, let's hope that the guys who needed minutes have got some under their belts. Davies looked well off the pace when he came on on Saturday.Dominic has usually taken a few games to get up to speed but perhaps the new coaches can get him "at it" quicker than nice Frank. We are now at that weird stage where things could suddenly click and the team grow in stature and put things right, or, we see a total shitshow. If we show some bottle at Selhurst Park, then the fans might yet drag the team across the line, but a pathetic capitulation will merely make us feel that the inevitable will happen regardless of our support. As Dyche says, the team need to give the fans reasons to get behind them. Remember that Phil Neville tackle on Ronaldo? Danny O’Neill 263 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:52:59 Agree with Rob and Tony Everan. The result isn't important. What is important is that hopefully several of those players can feature on Saturday, when it matters. Dale Self 264 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:56:49 I was fishing, Rob. Dale Self 265 Posted 18/04/2023 at 19:58:47 If I saw that right, Frank isn't starting Ziyech or Mudryk v Real Madrid. What a retard. Bill Gall 278 Posted 18/04/2023 at 21:58:34 Real Madrid 11th semi final in the last 14yrs, Will Mabon 279 Posted 18/04/2023 at 22:03:34 Bill, with just the slightest sympathy for Lampard, beating Real is a tough ask for most. Michael Lynch 281 Posted 18/04/2023 at 22:08:30 I make that 12 defeats out of the last 13 games Lampards's taken charge of.A remarkable record. Dave Abrahams 282 Posted 18/04/2023 at 22:09:06 I watched the Napoli v Milan game for the second week running, two terrific games full of passion, intensity and great football with both great attacking and defensive football, two missed penalties tonight and the Milan goal from Giroud, the French striker we nearly got took A C Milan through with Napoli's goal coming too late to save them. Danny O’Neill 283 Posted 18/04/2023 at 22:18:04 Napoli is a very colourful city Dave. Almost an independent republic. When I lived out there for 2 years, I called it Liverpool in the sun. A port, a tough city with proud people who are economically challenged and one of the most deprived cities in Italy. They will undoubtedly be hugely disappointed tonight as they were expected to go through. They are flying in Serie A, leading the way by 14 points with 8 games to go.I might watch the Maradona documentary again. Tony Everan 284 Posted 18/04/2023 at 22:33:41 Niels Nkounkou at it again last night, 5 goals, 7 assists now in 13 games. Colin Glassar 287 Posted 18/04/2023 at 23:15:34 John K, I wish we had that old dinosaur back again instead of this younger dinosaur we currently have. Danny O’Neill 288 Posted 18/04/2023 at 23:27:53 In the past few days, I've watched 3 recent former Everton managers. One, who I admit, I was uncomfortable with his appointment. But in hindsight, we once again pulled the trigger too early. Silva is a very good coach.Another who is up there with the Rolls Royce of managers and will be remembered so. Ancelotti's record needs no explanation or justification. And nice guy Frank who got the club, but is on course to prove a great player doesn't always translate to becoming a great manager.Dyche is what we have and can dig this team out of the hole we are in. Is he the long-term future? I personally don't think so, but right now, we have what we have. On the pitch and in the dugout. Buckle up and strap in. It's going to be emotional again. Steve Brown 289 Posted 19/04/2023 at 05:38:24 Danny, that's a great summary. Dyche is the manager we need right now, and hopefully he can get us to safety. He will may be the manager to lead us to the new stadium in very difficult financial circumstances and a potential points sanction.I am also not convinced that he is the man to rebuild the club beyond the next 2 years. Danny O’Neill 290 Posted 19/04/2023 at 06:16:47 No way back for them Dave. They say forgive and forget. The Catholic in me can often forgive if someone shows remorse and apologises.Forgetting is harder. Nigh on impossible. They haven't apologised. They haven't shown remorse or owned up to their mismanagement. They have barely spoken or communicated despite having publicly demonised us without justification or evidence. The Police washed their hands of the accusations. Now way back. And they know it. Danny O’Neill 291 Posted 19/04/2023 at 07:51:18 Here's one that someone more wise to these things than me can comment on.Given the scrutiny we are under, are Chelsea sailing close to the wind?A near 𧼐M outlay on transfers. Likely to fail to achieve European football let alone Champions League next season, which is what they were probably banking on.I remember Leeds crashing spectacularly because they banked on being in the Champions League in the early 2000s. It cost them. Literally cost them.FFP / P&S? Could get interesting. It doesn't seem unthinkable depending on whether common standards and principles are applied. Paul Tran 292 Posted 19/04/2023 at 07:56:06 Not getting European football will affect them on lots of levels, Danny. I'm sure we'll see a cut-price fire sale of players in the summer. It's all a question of how high their turnover is - I suspect its currently high enough, but that might not last. Brian Harrison 293 Posted 19/04/2023 at 10:45:48 I see Everton played Northern Conference side Chester yesterday, and fielded a very strong side yet still managed to lose 1-0.I am sure Sean Dyche is the only one who will know if this was beneficial or not, cant really see the benefit of arranging a game this late in the season. I know some will say it gave DCL some game time but with 26 Premier league players at our disposal wouldn't it have been a bigger test for DCL to play against Mina and Coady than Northern Conference league defenders. Surely one of the reasons for arranging this training game was to try and get some confidence into a side who are really struggling on that front, and I am not sure losing to Chester would have helped our confidence. I know some are saying don't pay any attention to the result, but I don't know any Professional sportsman who doesnt try and win friendly or not. I am sure Tony Abrahams will testify to how tough 5 a side friendlies against team mates could be.I know this will be seen as beneficial to DCL and maybe thats right although I am sure Dyche may have been hoping for a goal or 2 might have been beneficial. DCL played 70 minutes, which on the face of it looks promising, but he played 70 minutes against Arsenal and had a very influential impact, and when he came off with nothing outwardly showing we havent seen him since. Tony Abrahams 294 Posted 19/04/2023 at 13:05:35 Agree with what you're saying Brian, because some training games can be brilliant and get really competitive, but there's nothing like the real thing, and when you look at Everton's team yesterday, hardly any of them have played many minutes in 2023. Dave Abrahams 295 Posted 19/04/2023 at 14:05:47 Just a thought on a few fans who have been suggesting Mina coming back into the team – he could be an improvement on Keane, but I have watched him in the last three home matches at half-time when they do set training pieces: he just goes through the motions, hardly bothers. They do some 50-yard runs, he stops short going and coming back, it seems to me he knows he is not going to be used. he'll be well short of match fitness anyway and his joints are not built for football, they give way at any real exhaustion on them. I'd be surprised if he plays again for the Blues… wait and see. Ray Said 296 Posted 19/04/2023 at 14:38:48 Reflecting on what Brian (293) said about five-a-side games against teams mates. Another advantage is that the manager is in charge of both teams and issues instructions such as "Give DCL a good run and jostle but no hard challenges in case he breaks again." Dale Self 297 Posted 19/04/2023 at 20:09:44 Maybe Bayern can keep this from becoming a Fassbinder film but it seems like Pep and Carlo are due to meet. Dale Self 298 Posted 19/04/2023 at 20:21:42 That is in-Sane to have missed that. Rob Halligan 299 Posted 19/04/2023 at 20:26:02 I see Leandro Trossard of Arsenal is refereeing the Bayern Munich v Man City game!! 🤓🤓🤓 Dale Self 300 Posted 19/04/2023 at 20:39:22 I think Tuchel is a decent 2nd leg manager but I'm too lazy to look it up. Intriguing game thus far with Bayern having the better opportunities. Spoke too soon. Upecameno pen. And a blast over 0-0 Rob Halligan 301 Posted 19/04/2023 at 21:44:17 I think we can safely say that the home game against Man City will revert back to the Saturday, seeing as their first leg against Real Madrid is on the Tuesday. Rob Halligan 302 Posted 19/04/2023 at 21:47:39 Another ridiculous penalty, this time for Bayern. Akanji was literally about six inches away from the Bayern player, who blasted the ball at Akanji. How on earth was he meant to get his arm, or hand, whichever was hit, out the way? Bayern score, but all irrelevant. Stephen Davies 303 Posted 19/04/2023 at 21:57:37 Rob #302..Agreed..it's becoming ridiculous. What ever happened to deliberate handball..all this nonsense when commentators state ' his arm/ hand was in an unnatural position' wtf is that all about? When you challenge or tackle you don't think where your arm is going to be. Will Mabon 304 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:00:34 There's no handball now, only VAR ball. Allen Rodgers 305 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:02:14 Coventry keeper just scored the equaliser at Blackburn with his arm. No VAR so it's ok ! Rob Halligan 306 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:02:39 Stephen, I think the Man City penalty was even more ridiculous. Upamecano had his arms behind his back when a shot came in, but the ball appeared to hit his elbow, which was slightly sticking out. Absolutely ridiculous. Peter Carpenter 307 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:02:45 Whoever thought up the 'unnatural position' thing must have been off his head. If your arm is attached to your shoulder I would say it's in a natural position. If it's attached to your knee, well, different matter. Dave Abrahams 308 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:05:46 Stephen (303), “Whatever happened to deliberate handballâ€? I think it is allowed Stephen, it was the other night in the Leeds v Liverpool game for Liverpool's first goal, mind you I wasn't moaning too much over that one!! Bill Gall 309 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:18:14 It only counts as a no goal if you wear a blue shirt then it takes 2 min to make sure, after looking at 6 different views to make sure you find 1 that is not as controversial as the rest Tom Bowers 310 Posted 19/04/2023 at 22:54:44 When are the idiots at Fifa or whomever going to change this stupid offside call. Surely to God the flag should go up immediately against the player involved not five minutes later. Rob Halligan 311 Posted 19/04/2023 at 23:07:42 Ah, so city's second leg is Wednesday 17th May, so I think our game against them will now remain on the Sunday. Barry Hesketh 312 Posted 20/04/2023 at 11:57:28 Pep Guardiola's side will travel to the Bernabeu on Tuesday, May 9 for the first leg of their semi-final. The Blues will then host Real in the all-important return leg on Wednesday, May 17.Source: Manchester Evening News.Given that information, it looks likely that Everton's home game with Man City will take place on Sunday 15 May, and that City's league game with Leeds scheduled prior to the first-leg will be the fixture which will have to be moved. Nothing concrete yet, but I would be surprised if Everton's game is moved again. Stephen Davies 313 Posted 20/04/2023 at 12:25:19 Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit for Saturday (according to his Instagram account). Dale Self 314 Posted 20/04/2023 at 20:10:55 Trusting slabhead to deal with that was a bit much. DeGea is at fault. Sevilla 1-0 MU Dave Abrahams 315 Posted 20/04/2023 at 20:56:49 That offside for Seville's second goal looked very tight. I like United but want them out of this competition so they can concentrate on the Premier League and beat some of our rivals there. I know they are still in the FA Cup but the less games they have the more they can put their minds on the league games. Dale Self 316 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:26:09 Without Fernandes and Rashford, Man Utd are not as fluid but this is a shocking European performance from them. Rob Halligan 317 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:42:33 Hahahaha……what an almighty cock up by De Gea. 😂😂😂 Duncan McDine 318 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:46:11 Utd have been in self-destruct mode tonight. Quite funny to watch really! Dale Self 319 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:49:54 That's possibly the most color coordinated crowd I've seen at a European match. Dale Self 320 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:54:20 Remarkable result. Even if they qualify United needs a serious rebuild. Stephen Davies 321 Posted 20/04/2023 at 21:54:46 What a great atmosphere at Seville. Wonderful. All sides of the ground involved Dave Abrahams 322 Posted 20/04/2023 at 22:07:55 Dale (319) yes I don't think I have ever seen a team supported by what looked like 90% of their fans wearing the colour of their teams shirts, amazing, and the team matched the fantastic support with their own fantastic performance. Will Mabon 323 Posted 20/04/2023 at 22:15:49 United seem to produce many more of these poor performances in recent times, but as ever, NEVER when playing us.
