Alan Stubbs on Bill Kenwright via BBC Radio 5 Live

During an interview with Alan Stubbs on BBC Radio 5 Live today, the former Everton player and lifelong Evertonian revealed that he's been banned from receiving match tickets by Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright himself – for public criticisms of Kenwright and the board in the past. He says Kenwright tries to silence any dissent by not allowing dissenters into the games:

"Won’t quieten my voice.

Mr Kenwright tries to keep you quiet by not allowing you into the games.

Change needed behind the scenes.

One thing they’ll never do is quieten my voice. I want what’s best for Everton Football Club.

Because yes I was a player, but I’m a fan first and foremost.

When asked how he’s being kept out, Alan states that "he" has decided not to give him tickets because I’ve said the truth.

Bill’s way of dealing with that is to stop you going to watch the team you’ve supported as a boy, which will never happen".

This goes to show just how petty this man is. It's common knowledge pure Everton royalty in Neville Southall has been persona non grata at Goodison for many years for speaking out against this board.

Nice to finally see though a former player publicly speaking out against this hopeless, out-of-his-depth, excuse for a 'Chairman' and calling for much-needed change at the top instead of the usual nauseating and highly patronising "Bill's a true blue and loves the club" we've had for years from former players.

The interview with Stubbs begins at 2:16:30  5 Live Breakfast - 04/01/2023 - BBC Sounds

BBC Phil McNulty comments:

"Frank Lampard will ultimately be held responsible, as managers are, but owner Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale must not escape scrutiny for years of appalling decision-making. They are equally culpable for yet another Everton crisis."

Kenwright has ruined Everton. It's as simple as that.

How he is still there is beyond belief.

Re Phil McNulty and his attack on Kenwright and the rest of the board, he is a true Evertonian and one of the media who doesn't do Kenwright's bidding, he's wise to the scheming ways of Billy Boy.

Dave.

One of the Blue Union lads had his season ticket taken off him for speaking out about the chairman over a decade ago – so it wouldn't surprise me.

Did anybody hear Alan Stubbs's interview on 5 live Breakfast. If anybody had any doubts over who's the villain of the piece Stubbs makes it quite clear.

So refreshing to hear an ex-player refuse to go along with the script and out a certain person on air.

Has anyone got a link to the Stubbs interview? Can't find a replay anywhere.

Assuming he did say it, then massive thanks to Alan, a true Blue in every sense, for telling the truth about Porky Pig Kenwright.

It's a crying fucking shame the same can't be said about Sharp and the likes but, you know they take the coin and that's it. Soulless bastards.

Peter, thanks for posting that. I couldn't work out how to get it; but Nick's reply says it all. Well done, Stubbsy.

I wonder what Radio Merseyside say about our calamitous situation... probably say "It's the fans' fault!"

I've just been talking to my mate who knows Stubbs very well because he told me about what Kenwright had done to his mate last week and he's just told me quite a bit more.

Anyone who hasn't been able to see through Bill Kenwright is either very naive or very stupid imo. I personally think that anyone with just half a brain should have been able to have seen what this deceitful man's intentions have always been.

I’ve just listened too. He mentioned other former players also. Said Kenwright's way of dealing with ex-players who criticise the club is to stop giving them tickets.

Kim, irrelevant or relevant, we will all use our own life experiences to make analogies.

The Stubbs interview is stark and to the point. Not verbatim, but some telling gists.

Won't quieten my voice.

Mr Kenwright tries to keep you quiet by not allowing you into the games.

Take a bow, Alan Stubbs.

Banning ex-players for telling the truth is an absolute disgrace.

As well Stubbs, Derek Mountfield, Peter Reid, Kevin Ratcliffe and Neville Southall have also been banned by Kenwright for daring to speak the truth.

That Fans Advisory Board is a complete waste of time, because if any one of them spoke out of turn, they would be booted off the board immediately. Kenwright is a leech, a vermin, a cheat, a fraud and a fucking embarrassment to this football club.

Good times, eh, Bill? The only time we will have good times is when you are gone, one way or another.

KENWRIGHT OUT!

Tony Abrahams

Despite people not wanting to admit that they have been kidded, it doesn’t look like Bill Kenwright is going to leave a good legacy?

I hope he has tried to ban Stubbs, because I’m sure there will be plenty of season ticket holders who are prepared to give him their ticket for a game. It would also go down like a lead balloon if the Chairman of our club was trying to get an ex-captain of Everton banned from attending the game because he had spoken out and told the truth.

He might be able to get away with banning AGMs, but I’m sure trying to ban Stubbs, would be illegal.

Excellent point about those Fan Advisory Board positions, Rob, and a reason why they could never be taken seriously imo, mate.

Some of Stubbs's words:

Those players referred to by Rob have one thing in common. They were winners.

Alan Stubbs may not have won at Everton and some may shout down the Scottish League, but he won honours with Celtic and Hibernian. I really hoped we would get him from Bolton before he moved to Celtic.

If you like a good emotional video clip, watch the Hibs "Sunshine on Leith" rendition at Hamden Park when they won the Scottish Cup under Stubbs.

Sorry. I'm fuming about Stubbs's interview. Not with him.

I am travelling to Manchester on Friday evening. Meeting up with some Man Utd friends I've known for about 30 years. It's going to be a long round trip, but I will get there.

I hope you are not there, Mr Chairman. You don't deserve to be. You stay in London, I'll go the other way and eventually get home.

George – keep me positive, please.

The interviewer said at the end that he would try to get a comment from Bill Kenwright – good luck with that one!

The mask has slipped. The great thespian, man of the people, self-appointed world's greatest Evertonian is revealed as nothing more than a spiteful, selfish, arrogant dictator. Sadly, like most dictators, when he goes, he takes a lot of others with him.

As for Alan Stubbs. He is just pissed that the club has never given him a job. Buy your own tickets, yer tightwad. You can afford them.

23 Posted 04/01/2023 at 17:14:12
I was wondering who was going to criticise Stubbs – who had a job at Everton, but actually left because, unlike most, he wanted to try his hand at management – for not buying his own ticket.

I was thinking, he's nearly as bad as the Evertonian who had the temerity to tape the interview with good old Bill, a man who definitely should not need to give his time to anyone, who is not prepared to toe the nepotistic line.

Ian Edwards

I was unaware Stubbs can't afford his own tickets.

I am aware that he was interviewed by Kenwright in 2013 but lost out to Martinez. He's clearly a bitter man.

Well done, Alan Stubbs, for highlighting Bill's pettiness.

It's not about the tickets or the cost of the tickets or who gets freebies but Bill's attempts to silence any critics. All the naysayers to any form of protest are merely playing directly into Bill's grubby little hands.

If it is widely accepted that our board has been useless for years, then it's perfectly acceptable for people to voice opposition to them. As someone said earlier, they ain't going to sack themselves and that's exactly why we should be protesting. They need to have pressure applied to make them accountable.

People still defending Kenwright for fuck's sake! The man is a charlatan and a loser, a complete and utter failure as a chairman.

It's got nothing to do with free tickets for Stubbs, if the free tickets bother you that much, do you think Graeme Sharp has ever paid for tickets? Of course he hasn't.

I loved Sharpie as a player but what does he do as a member of the board?

I came across another Kenwright-sympathizer the other day at an Evertonians gathering here in Hong Kong. My first question, as usual, was:

"Where's the King's Dock Stadium?"

"We have BMD coming up," he smiled wryly, "we don't have to look back to the past, do we?"

I challenged him again: "We could have been sold to the Man City owners but it was Kenwright's snobbish arse that drove them away."

"We aren't too shabby with Moshiri, are we?"

This fellow is not the only one and there are a lot more of this type of "napping" hypocrites amongst Evertonians, hence Kenwright is still lurking around and we are at where we are.

We need to find a way to support those outspoken and "No Bullshit" types like Stubbs, Southall & the NSNOW folks.

Kenwright Out ASAP!!!

Ernie Baywood
33 Posted 06/01/2023 at 01:03:28
I don't think anyone supports Bill Kenwright, Kieran. That's a weird concept. We're Evertonians.

The club is failing. Therefore the Board is failing. Therefore the Chairman of the Board is failing. Therefore the owner is failing.

Mind you, I don't know what metrics Farhad uses to judge success and failure.

David Currie

Only an idiot would support Kenwright.

Obviously he has been Chairman for a long time and, if he really loved the club, he would step down and let someone else take over. He is a selfish, greedy man who acts like a baby if someone dare be critical towards him.

Matthew Williams

How petty is our so called Chairman... a truly pathetic excuse for a human being, congrats for Stubbsy for speaking out, after all he was our Captain for years,a true Blue and Scouser and was seriously ill at one point during his career.

I must email I.O.Interactive in Denmark with a suggestion regarding a future elusive target in the Hitman trilogy of games...one William Kenwright!!!

With all due respect Paul, that's a cheap shot.

He's a lifelong fan who played for and captained the club.

Despite the alleged "cancer clause" and what appeared to be very poor handling by the club in his hour of need, he came back to Everton.

He has every right to speak out. And, as he's says, free tickets and a ban from Bill's closed shop won't stop him going to watch the team he's supported since he was a boy in Kirkby.

I remember when I was a kid and Kenwright was taking over from Peter Johnson, my Dad always used to say 'he's absoluely vile is that man, one of the most dislikable people i've ever worked with'. My dad worked in music and theatre production and had met him on multiple occasions.

My Dad was a red, so I always took it as him trying to disparge the new Everton owner.

But as time goes on, I always remember those words.

Fran - interesting comment. Many moons ago I was with an acting company in Manchester that had a successful agency attached to it, produced numerous successful actors down the years. They also despised Kenwright. Cannot go too much into numerous incidents, libel and all, but unpopular would be putting it mildly. Cannot stand him. Absolute cancer on Everton.

Joshua. Well that puts to bed the inference that he’s a nice but deluded man in the Peter Swales Man City guise. I like that Ian Edwards has a different opinion from most on this thread but it comes across as either him being delusional or a mole for Bill Kenwright.

Stubbs could have gone to Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers (who both were higher up the table in the mid-90s) but held out for us to buy him when he was at Bolton. We waited until he'd done his time at Celtic. I'd trust him over Kenwright every day of the week.

Because the thing is, I have passed our Chairman on the Euston to Lime Street train (when you have to walk through First Class) and he just ignores all the Blues adorned in their gear and clearly enthusiastic. The great showman is a sociopath.

Just the odd little bit of chat might have been nice with any of us as we are spending a fortune to come see the club we love that he's ruined for over 20 years ... but nothing.

The man pretends to be cuddly. Like cuddling a snake in my experience.

As for his decision-making, Everton Football Club don't work like one season in the West End and we need coaches that last longer, as well as cast members.
