Dyche handed early chance to show progress

The fixtures for the 2023/24 season have been announced, with Everton handed an immediate opportunity to avenge one of their most disappointing performances under Sean Dyche.

The Toffees headed into April’s fixture hopeful of securing all three points against a side who themselves had lost five games on the bounce and were without Aleksandar Mitrović. Despite that, Everton turned in a listless second half performance, eventually losing the match 3-1.

One almost inevitable change in personnel from that day will be up front, with Neal Maupay failing to start another game after the defeat, and The Blues already being linked with a host of strikers, including Moussa Dembélé and Viktor Gyökeres.

Betting sites appear to think Everton will make a winning start to the season, with bookmakers.tv quoting early odds of 5/4 for a home victory, with Fulham out at 2/1.

As ever, the hope will be for transfers to be made early. Last season showed how every point can be crucial, and, with home fixtures against Fulham and Wolves coming before the end of August, it’ll be important to take advantage to avoid playing catching up.

Key Everton fixtures:

12 August - Fulham (home)
19 August - Aston Villa (away)
21 October - Liverpool (away)
26 December - Man City (home)
16 March - Liverpool (home)

19 May - Arsenal (away)
