Season › 2022-23 › News Everton U21s to play Mansfield Town at Goodison Park Michael Kenrick 16/11/2022 7comments | Jump to last The next game for Everton U21s in Round 2 of the Papa John's EFL Trophy will be played against Mansfield Town at Goodison Park on Wednesday 30 November, kick-off at 7 pm GMT. The young Blues qualified with home advantage against the League Two side by topping Northern Group A, with victories over Harrogate Town and Hartlepool United in their group stage matches. The Under-21s now face Nigel Clough's Mansfield Town, who currently sit in the play-off places in League Two after 18 games. This will be the first and probably the only time in the 125-year history of the Nottinghamshire club that they will ever play at the Grand Old Lady. There's sod all else to do right now and it would give the young lads a great lift to see 1000s of Blues and the blue smoke swirling in the winter air. COyoungBs !!As for the World Cup — Boycott It. I am and so is my wife. Paul Hughes 2 Posted 20/11/2022 at 16:33:26 I have a couple of mates who live in Harrogate, so I watched Harrogate v Mansfield yesterday. Mansfield looked pretty neat and tidy, and are a team of giants. But Harrogate (who are just above the relegation zone), turned them over 3-0If our kids can match Mansfield physically, there will be plenty of opportunities to create chances. Michael Kenrick 3 Posted 20/11/2022 at 20:30:44 Hopefully the handful of U21 players who have been moved up to plug gaps in the first team squad will be released for Paul Tait to play a full-strength team at Goodison a week on Wednesday. It would be great also if the club could push this and encourage a decent turnout for these lads. Apparently Charlie Whitaker is out with a badly-injured knee after he had to come off when they played Southampton last Sunday. Also, two lads (Quirk and Price) were shown red cards so I think at least Price will be missing too. Phill Thompson 4 Posted 21/11/2022 at 11:30:54 Paul #2, Our U21s are a young bunch and really won't have the physicality to match Mansfield, but that's okay, that's what these games against “men's teams†are all about, getting exposure to physicality and seeing how they cope. Paul Tait has done a good job tactically this season and also in further developing the youngsters, I'm sure he'll get the tactics right. We demolished an admittedly poor Hartlepool 0-6 in the group stage, so with a decent crowd at Goodison behind them, they should do well. The average age will likely be around 19, so it's a bit unpredictable and you just know that if we win there'll be calls of “Get them in the first team†and, if we lose, “They're crap, sack Thelwell.†🤷â€â™‚ï¸ Dave Abrahams 5 Posted 21/11/2022 at 13:01:54 Michael (3), It's a pity Price and Quirk will miss this game as they have been playing well this season and Everton will need all their best players for this game, maybe Ben Godfrey could be used to get closer to match fitness. Phill Thompson 6 Posted 21/11/2022 at 14:42:03 Dave, We have another game in the Premier League Cup on Friday v Birmingham U21s, so I believe that will take care of Quirk's one-match suspension for 2 yellows, so he could play against Mansfield. Usually it's a two-match suspension for Price's red for dissent so he'll likely miss out. Dave Abrahams 7 Posted 21/11/2022 at 15:20:47 Phill (6), Thanks for that.
