Dear Everton directors, fans are fearful and confused — here is how you could help

Greg O'Keeffe pens a partially open letter (the article is behind The Athletic's paywall, which is unfortunate as it deserves wider reading) to Everton's Board imploring them to provide the supporters with some answers and to act to arrest the club's slide, one that the fans' passion is unlikely to be able to arrest on its own this time:

"Not in a long time, perhaps ever, have the supporters — the enduring heartbeat of the institution — been so concerned, so angry and so hurt.

"The situation has been described as civil war and in such a conflict it remains ever true: there are never any winners, only losers.

"‘Never Again’ — that was the message following the relief once that euphoric, exhausting win over Crystal Palace was over. Yet here we are. This time there may be 18 games left, but supporters who set aside their long-standing concerns to create that powerful unity last year may be unable to do it again.

"Even with just under half of the season remaining, the risk that Everton fans’ morale might simply break is scary. They may struggle to balance supporting the team and opposing what they describe as your intransigence.

"Without them, the club is nothing. It is incumbent on you as its custodians to acknowledge their fear and anger. To answer them in meaningful, not stage-managed, ways.

"To stop the rot before it becomes terminal."

The fan base is the club. We were here before any of the board, staff or players and we will be here long after they have gone. Even if the club folds, we will start another Everton, as Rangers did. We, at least the true supporters (and let's face it, we can't have many glory-hunters), will always support the Blues.

Totally agree, just sorry it has taken this long for something, to actually happen. Well, it hasn't fully happened, but the wheels are in motion, and I can't see any way back for the Board members, who have milked the system for far too long.

Although this article was written a fortnight ago, it was good to see the Board again staying away, while the most peaceful of protests, pre-match, makes a mockery of their scare tactics that they were in fear of their lives.

Glad it was there on camera via BT Sports for all to see, and hopefully people away from Everton will be in no doubt as to what has gone on.

The win helped as well against the current League Leaders.
