Everton U21s give up late goal in mini-derby

Everton U21s 1 - 1 Liverpool U21s

Everton U21s were set for a nice win over Liverpool at Haig Avenue after Stan Mills scored in the 11th minute. But after commanding most of the game, the Blues gave up a goal in the last minute of Sunday's mini-derby.

A red card for Ishe Samuels-Smith made it a difficult final few minutes for the Blues and Liverpool the score in the 89th minute.

Mills and Samuels-Smith both started the game after being named on the bench for Saturday’s disastrous Premier League game against Fulham.

Everton had plenty of chances to increase their lead but were denied any further goals and Samuels-Smith left the game a few minutes early after getting a second yellow card. And the depleted Blues then gave up the tying goal that denied them victory.

Lovely control from his chest bought him the little bit of space and a quality finish over the goalie’s head. Brent, watching him now he looks like he has filled out a bit, looks tougher. Training with the first team is getting him much closer to making the break through?

Yes, Tony, I'd like to think Mills is closer to a first team game again. But not sure if Dyche will risk changing things that much?

Brent, Yeah it’s all too intense at the moment, blooding youngsters will be seen as is a risk too far. It will be back to the basics from now on and being hard to beat again. Maybe Mills gets a chance from the bench at some point soon though, with his eye for goal.

Thanks, Brent. Caught the back end of the second half.

Is that Welch at centre back. Looks composed.

Liking what is see of Mills. Likewise Price.

Okoronkwo should have buried that. Take it early lad, don't think about it

Should be 2-0, Okoronkwo has to score there, looked in shock to be gifted it on a silver platter from the RS defender. Hopefully he can make amends.

Yes , Danny , Welch and Campbell CBs

Welsh and Campbell seem to have been together ages as a centre-back pairing. A good understanding between them.

Okoronkwo spurns a second nailed-on chance.

I should have said caught the end of the first half. Watching the second now.

What I'm liking is the confidence to want to play forward. Always looking up.

Don't knock that out of them.

Our young left back looks a bit clumsy, but after yesterday, I'm enjoying this.

Samuels-Smith sent off but seems to take the ball first and not a dangerous tackle.

Excuse the French, but throw chewing gum at someone? Horrible gobshit being brought up in their way.

Think it was he first tackle he got the yellow for Brent, the second one was a beauty! Those bread-and-butter missed chances are looking costly now.

Has to be 2nd yellow for the first challenge.

Nothing wrong with the second despite the Kopshite's theatrics.

Every single one of them

Tony (17),

Yes definitely booked for the first tackle, the second tackle was a very good clean tackle and the Liverpool player made a meal of it rolling over and over, not sure if the ref. was influenced by the Liverpool players antics but the first tackle was a bad one.

We missed some good chances, could have won but Liverpool looked the more aggressive team to me in the thirty minutes I watched Everton always look more passive in these Derby games and never seem to want to win the game as much as Liverpool.
