Everton U21s 1 - 4 Arsenal U21s

Everton U21s out-gunned by Arsenal in a bruising second half at Haig Avenue in Southport on Friday night.

Fielding what should have been a pretty strong side, Everton started well and took the lead after a great cross from Katia Kouyate was converted by Stanley Mills, heading home from close range.

But the Young Blues could not hold the lead for long, with Arsenal converting a penalty 5 minutes later.  And worse was to come in the second half despite good Blues pressure with Arsenal scoring three more times to seal a bad defeat for the home side.

Everton U21s: Crellin, Dixon/Quintyne, I Samuels-Smith, Welch, Campbell, McAllister, Mills (46' Higgins), Metcalfe [Y:69'], Okoronkwo (64' Sherif), Djankpata (46' Price), Kouyate (62' Barker).

Outgunned sums it up, they had too much for us quality wise in the second half, it’s hard to gauge though as we had some young u18s players on the pitch. I thought Stan Mills looked good, his goal was put on a plate from the first class cross, but apart from that I see a good player in Mills. He’s got a bit of class and priceless composure, he’s thinking ahead before he receives the ball. It’s only a matter of time before he breaks through.

Young Martin Sherif did ok against the older group, looked unfazed and confident. Sean McCallister too did pretty well shifted to central midfield, proves he is versatile.

On the poaching list is Arsenal’s Cozier-Duberry, the lad looks like he has got what it takes to have a very good future. Stan Mills and him are going places for sure.

I saw a fair bit of the match whilst at work and didn't think we looked too bad in comparison – the score ended up looking a tad harsh, imo.
