Everton Away Review

Two Bournemouth fans look back at their trip to Goodison Park and discuss the experience of visiting the Grand Old Lady on the final day of the season. They rank it against their away days at all the other Premier League grounds but both agree the Blues' "old school" stadium has its undeniable charms even if she is showing her age.

Around the mid-way part they answer the question "Was Goodison Park The LOUDEST Stadium In The Premier League This Season?"

With thanks to Trevor Powell for sending the link along. He says: "My view is that they were very complimentary and thoughtful. Off the record, I found it discouraging that Bluenoses in the normal away section of the Upper Bullens decided it was fittng to rain spit down on Cherries fans below!"

And on Facebook - there is a story of a blue from Bournemouth who could not get a ticket so got one with the Bournemouth fans. All was going well until the 57th minute when he was unable to contain his unbridled joy at which points the stewards removed him fearing for his safety,

Why can we not just enjoy games these days?

I still retain the memory of what I thought was the final match of the season (thanks, Steve Johnson at www.evertonresults.com, for giving the correcting evidence): Goodison Road Park End Stand 1967-68 and someone at the back just kept shouting every 30 seconds "Come On Stoke". We all decided he was drunk and let him be. Happy Memories of better fan experiences. Maybe not so friendly on the terraces.

Very interesting and thoughtful piece, I thought. Well balanced.

I enjoyed watching that, quite a civilised way of breaking down an away day.

Sad that people think it's okay to spit on others. We have accused our neighbours of that behaviour for years.

Times have changed so much for the majority of fans since the mid 80s.

80s ratings would be along the lines of:

How hard the home fans are.
A bastard rating for the police.
What was pillaged from the service stations.
Program costs.
Pie costs.
How many bunked in.

All stadiums were pretty naff back then along with the food and general harrowing experience at various grounds. How times have changed.

I can't wait to go back to Kenilworth Road after reading some of that, Rob!

Spitting is absolutely disgraceful and simply cannot be defended but any Bournemouth fan who was genuinely expecting to have friendly acceptable banter with Evertonians on such a horrible occasion hasn't really thought things through enough, imo.
