For me, ideally the best result between Luton and Forest is a Forest win.
Luton must be totally demoralised as well as cream crackered after throwing away a 3-goal lead to lose at Bournemouth. They have more Injuries to contend with and may well be struggling to put a half decent team out.
I know a win puts Forest above us, but once they get their points deduction it will put them back below us. Hopefully they get a 10-point deduction which will be reduced on appeal, but make them stew for a few weeks, same as what the corrupt Premier League did with us.
If we get a further points deduction then it should be nowhere near what Forest get, so we should hopefully remain above Forest before we play again.
Should Luton lose today, they then have a nightmare of a run to contend with in their next four games, including away games at Spurs, Arsenal and Man City, p!us their midweek conquerors, Bournemouth, sandwiched in between, at home.
So I can't see them getting many points out of that run of fixtures. That loss at Bournemouth may well have been the beginning of the end for Luton.

Watching the Wolves game. They just have a bit more class but Coventry are a decent team.

Wolves v Coventry started off so far like a good Cup tie.
I'm watching big Ellis Simms though, not sure he's really got the movement or mobility to be a Premier League footballer.
Casey Palmer looks good for Coventry though.

Ellis Simms just missed an absolute sitter. May have been an offside in the build up, but still. He side-footed a shot from about 2 yards out, slap bang in the middle of the goal, with no-one near him.

Best team won. What a cracking game – real old school, end to end. Sa is a shit, so glad Coventry came back to win it. Simms increasing his value too – did we have a buy back clause or add-ons – knowing EFC, we had neither!
Did anyone notice in first half when Sa went down with an "injury", O'Neill and his coaches had the laptops ready to give the Wolves players new instructions? At the time, Coventry were giving them a lesson in passing the ball forward.
Bidwell and Wright have some left feet on them. Rayan Aït-Nouri for Wolves is a cracking footballer and on the RS radar apparently, mores the pity.

That was a proper cup game, and a proper football match. All we seem to get these days is manufactured hysteria about the RS and City, and idiots telling us this is "the best title race ever in English football" blah blah.
But Wolves v Coventry in the cup is the real deal. I've never heard of half the players, but it was a great, unpredictable topsy-turvy battle between two teams who rarely feature in a cup semi-final or get to Wembley unless its in a play-off final. Almost restores my faith in football, if it wasn't for the fact that Coventry will get fucked 5-0 in the semi by Klopp or Pep's multi-millionaires.
Made up for Ellis Simms too.
And is life so bad in the Championship? Coventry have been to Wembley twice in two years now.

Forest and Luton just a point each, ensuring both are below us, and Brentford kept in the mix just 1 point above us. Burnley so far off the pace, it doesn't really matter... unless we're docked 10!
Obviously we need to push on and do the business and actually score some goals, but gives us a huge opportunity vs Bournemouth.

Whilst a Forest win wouldn't have been a disaster, it was imperative that Luton never won.
They are 3 points behind, but with us having a superior goal difference, it's two games Luton need at least four points from, and with them having a nightmare next four fixtures, they will probably do well to get just the one.
I guess it's all down to the corrupt Premier League now as to who goes down and who stays up.

Have to say, responding to Rob at the beginning of the thread, I wanted a Luton draw. We cannot continue to waste these chances of pulling away from them both.
The Forest decision is on Monday. It has to be a minimum of 6 points regardless of any mitigating circumstances.
After swanning about in Portugal, we have no excuses of being tired and all that shit. We need to go out and get 3 points against Bournemouth.
Only thing I would say is not to go 3 up until the 90th minute!

John @49,
With regard to Forest, it depends how the Commission view the transfer of Brennan Johnson. If it falls within the accounting period, it should, roughly, balance their purchases last summer.
If it doesn't, not only are they mathematically deficient but, with the Richarlison precedent being common knowledge, that should be an aggravating element.
Whilst we were the guinea pigs, there are now some guidelines and it will be interesting to see if they are followed.

As it was an Everton-free Saturday, I went with my wife and son to that Lundun to watch
Back To The Future at the theatre (it was very good).
On the train, I was talking with a Brighton fan who went home and away vs Roma. He said the Roma fans were horrible and held up a massive banner saying something obscene against the Queen (something about Fellacio…).
For the return fixture, the Brighton fans made an equally large banner, in Italian, saying “Francesco Totti likes pineapple on his pizzaâ€!

I believe the true slight on Totti was that he uses bacon not pancetta in his carbonara. Not a biggie to us but obviously to the Romans a big insult. Anyway, great resourcefulness.

I see Ellis Simms is starting to find his feet at Coventry; press quote: "Simms was the star of the show for Coventry". We paid nearly double for Beto… how?
That has been the problem ever since Martinez, we spend big money on players in the decline of there careers and who no longer have the hunger, instead of showing faith in our youngsters to either start or be the back-up squad players.
But no, every manager since Martinez just deems our young players to be not good enough the minute they become manager. Tell that to Robinson, Cannon and Simms. We replaced them with Ashley Young, Youssef Chermiti and Beto. That's our recruitment in a nut shell.

It remains to be seen if Simms can do it at the top level. I'm pleased for him. He will have a career in professional football.
There is a great documentary on Totti. A really good player and stayed with his home town club for his entire career despite lures from Real Madrid.
Having lived there, I used to prefer the Roma supporters. Lazio were downright fascists. And as for Napoli, just mental. If we ever go there, watch your back.
Like all Italian clubs, they have their ultras.

Phillip @56,
I'm pleased for Simms but I'm not convinced he's as good as Beto yet. Certainly Beto is quicker, stronger and better in the air. His all-round game is superior. Simms is probably the better finisher but he has taken some time to find his form in the Championship and 9 goals in over 2000 minutes is nothing to write home about so far.
If Simms had stayed, I suspect he would have struggled with the same limited minutes Beto has had and people would be saying he's not good enough. Lots of ‘grass is greener' syndrome around at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how Simms does if he's ever a regular in the Premier League.

Phillip (56). Money ruled where Beto, Chermiti,Young Simms and Cannon were concerned, Simms and Cannon brought that much needed money, the three brought in cost nothing, for the time being, talent had nothing to do with it, time will tell how much talent they have, Young did once have plenty of it, too late for us.

I'm sure it was either you or Robert T, that wrote on ToffeeWeb, about Ellis Simms, a couple of years ago Sam H, explaining that he initially struggles when he goes up to the next level, before he adapts and kicks on?
Nine goals in 22 games, (if you divide 2000 minutes) isn't that bad a record to begin with either, imo.
I'm not sure Simms, was ready, but neither is Chermieti, and just shows how much of a messy job both Dyche and Thelwell, have been given

Dave 60] I'm sure you are correct - the key issue being cash flow. The sales of Both Simms & Cannon generated cash.
Unless something dramatic happens on the ownership issue, we should expect to see similar types of activity during the summer - though I'm not sure who we have in/around the u21 group that would generate even the modest amounts we got for Simms & Cannon.
Sadly I'm resigned to Branthwaite going - who goes with him is anyone's guess (Patterson maybe?)

Tony # 61 - Chermiti is 4 years younger than Simms though. So its understandable that he's not quite ready yet. The Championship is the right place for Simms at the moment. His 9 goals in 37 games currently have him at 24th in the goalscorers chart at that level. He needs to improve on that and may yet get to the Premier League with Coventry (and I hope he does) but he's very unlikely to be one that got away.

Coventry have been knocking on the prem door for a couple of years now. Well done to Simms yesterday and also a well done to Marco Silva, Fulham are safe for another season and may yet achieve a top 10 finish. The body of work that he has done over the past three years is quite impressive and if he came to us on the back of same I don't think anyone would argue too strongly against it. Unfortunately, he didn't have that Premier League success on his CV when he initially came through the doors of Goodison Park and when things became difficult he was sacked. He also got a raw deal on the signings front at the start of his second full season thanks to the incompetence of our DOF.
Opinions differ but as of now I can't believe that Beto is a better bet than Simms going forward. Simms has much more footballing ability.

We couldnt have had a much better set of results than what happened yesterday, still outside the bottom 3 and now we have games in hand over Brentford, Forest and Luton. Mind I then remember our game in hand is Liverpool so hardly a guaranteed 3 points. Looks like Forest will hear their result from the Premier league commission tomorrow, lots of speculation but I remember just days before we heard our punishment and many on here were saying they had heard from a very good source our punishment would be 3 points deducted and a fine, I wish.
Then irrespective of what punishment Forest get we will hear in a week or so what punishment we may face for our 2nd charge. So whatever Forest get I will wait to see what punishment we get before reading to much into Forests punishment.

Tony@61, yes, it is a bit of a mess but I think losing Simms for Chermiti was probably an easy decision. Neither are ready to make an impact at PL level but it would seem, and these things are never easy to judge, that the Portuguese has a much higher potential ceiling.
Simms is probably not a long way off his best now and will hopefully go on to be a player who can get 15 goals a season in the championship or maybe 5-10 in the PL. A £20-25m player in a year or two if things go well.
Chermiti would appear to have more potential and might hope to emulate Rafael Leao if things go well and become a £50m+ player. Odds are against that happening but he's fast, tall and has good movement which is a good start. Hopefully he's been well scouted and is being well coached.

It seems some posters are quick to point out how well some ex players are doing since being sold merely as a stick to beat the club with.
I can't remember many posts, if any, giving the club credit for getting good money for a player who doesn't turn out to be the world beater some would have us believe all our ex players "are".
Just strengthens my belief that a lot of posters are quicker to moan than compliment.

Michael (74), Sterling takes a bad penalty then he gats away from the Leicester defence with speed and anticipation and misses a very good chance with poor finishing, then gets away again and creates a goal with a good pass and great movement from Palmer.
I think City got a good price for him and got his wages off the books, he still has his speed which was increased, when a lad from Liverpool city centre put an extra yard on his pace, while he was at Liverpool, but he never seems to last the full game now coming off early, don't know if this tactics or him tiring.
City might be wondering if they let Palmer go too early although he insisted on the move when they wouldn't guarantee him more games this season, he looks a very good signing for them at £40M.

Michael @122,
Sadly you are right, mate, it's getting more like Scottish football here with every passing season, the competition is now the very best a million miles ahead of the rest.
The fact that Everton haven't won a Merseyside derby in front of supporters for nearly 14 years is absolutely sickening and something in all my years of watching football and Everton, I never thought I'd witness.
The gulf now is astronomical.

Jim - in a nutshell!
I play “walking football†now down here in Sussex. The players are a mix of Arsenal, spurs, Chelsea Fulham, palace, Brighton and even a Grimsby fan. 24 turn up every week and I'm the only Evertonian. None of them take the piss as they are all 60-something and not plastic fans. There is one RS fan who is Hungarian and wears a Real Madrid kit and LFC bobble hat. And he's a Cunt. Apparently 2 years ago he “supported†Arsenal..
Anyway, point is, they've all now accepted that the Premier League is a closed shop. Even the Spurs fans accept it's unlikely they'll ever win it. The Arsenal fans are holding on to hope but expect to be pipped every season.
It won't take long before apathy amongst all but City and the RS just makes it an irrelevance.
I'll keep going for the craic and the nostalgia but I do not in all honesty expect Everton to win another honour in my lifetime. I reckon I've 10 years left if I'm lucky.

For Klopp to bow out with nothing would be apt. He's under-achieved in my thoughts since being at the RS. No Premier League or Champions League at City or Utd even Chelsea and you are lucky to keep your job.

I'm afraid I over did paddy's day and hit the whisky second half. I've just come round to feel the wife's wrath and see the “good newsâ€..
Glad to hear the shite are out but fcuking terrified that the drink has taken another weekend of my life. I need to sort this out.

John Williams mate (70): please don't compare my Marine (and even more Pete Mills's and Mike Gaynes's Marine) to Scottish clubs.

I was trying to watch it in my local Irish bar, but it was difficult as the band was playing and there were lots of people with those tall Guinness hats dancing in front of me in front of the screen.
It was a slow one for me. Couldn't get near the bar as it was three deep and I risked losing the seat I had secured.
Burnley sold out already.

John - No offence taken by me!
It's a quiet Everton weekend so I hope the Eds will be tolerant if I mention that Marine's former captain and centre half, Alan Favager, has passed away. He scored one of the most memorable goals I've seen, in 1967.
Talking of memorable goals at College Road, for anyone with a minute to spare take a look at the Mariners' winner on Saturday, YouTube Marine v Guiseley, 1 minute 5 seconds in – it's a belter.

What a lovely weekend enjoying the footie and the rugby without all the angst and stress watching Everton.
My wife suffering a nasty cold so no complaints from her either when I disappeared to watch the sport so long as I kept the cups of tea coming regularly. Win-win.

Peter (91)
A great goal — I won't ask “Did he mean it?†That was a great move in the first half with that very delicate flick on by the Marine forward to his partner inside the penalty area who put a great shot in and the Guiseley goalkeeper made a great save.
At the moment, I think you are getting a lot more enjoyment watching Marine – not forgetting Charlie and Sam playing with their teams than you are with Everton.

Dave, you're right. There's not a lot of pleasure watching the Blues at present, but I've renewed my season ticket; they are a part of us, we just can't shake off.
The boys' football is developing nicely, it's great to see the interaction between lads who have now played together for a few years. The testosterone hasn't fully kicked in with them yet – no doubt that will throw up a few challenges in the future!

YOU ARE THE REF.
In the Burnley v Brentford game there was an incident when the Burnley keeper climbed over Ivan Toney and VAR was called upon. Whilst VAR was looking at it, Brentford scored.
Personally I thought a penalty would be awarded but no announcement was made and the goal was given.
My question is, IF VAR gave the penalty decision would the goal have been disallowed or allowed to stand?
