City struggling at the back, very, very casual and when Haaland doesn't score he is a handicap, No Foden or Silva coming on for the second half, are they on the bench? They certainly need them.

Weird when you see how far Manchester United have fallen really.
It shows how quickly a dynasty fails I suppose.
You could never imagine a United side at Old Trafford having such a passive half of football especially in a game that could have huge outcome on the title going to a hated foe.
I always remember the United sides of the '90s when even if they'd have a bad day they'd still make a load of chances.

I was meaning because his infectious enthusiasm might just get him a second yellow card, Paul. I watched him playing in a game for Bolton last season and he was very comfortable on the ball. He was quick and had a prodigious work rate.
It was obvious (to me) that he was ready to make the step up. He could still see red today though because he hasn't taken a backward step, even though he's on a yellow card.

Michael #62, that's a great point. Half the time the attacker is moving away from the goal, or at a sharp angle to it, or isn't in immediate shooting position. It's idiocy.
I played 50 years and in all that time I probably didn't throw five slide tackles in my own penalty area. I left my feet to block shots, never to tackle.

Posted
07/04/2024 at
17:37:05
Have to agree with that assessment 100% Rob H. The game is frighteningly quick nowadays, and VAR, should be there to protect the defender, when it's obvious he doesn't touch the attacker, otherwise it just becomes like basketball, where you are not allowed to touch your opponent otherwise it's a foul.
It must have been for intent, because the defender never touched Elliot, a player who I'm glad never started the game, such was the level of his performance, once he got on the pitch.
I wonder if Rednapp would have the same opinion if Liverpool ever conceded such a penalty?
I think that penalty would have been given to us Ian C, and then VAR, would have looked at it properly.

I wish the league would clarify what tackles are illegal even if the ball is won cleanly. I see many players fly over the ball knowing it is lost looking for the call. One of United was called by the touchline first half that was clean from one TV angle, maybe I missed contact but in no way should Taylor have carded that effort.

Posted
07/04/2024 at
17:54:02
The Liverpool player Jones, got a yellow card for trying to get around one player to tackle another player, and it was obvious the United player hadn't been touched, which is therefore cheating imo, meaning the wrong player was actually booked. Football has become that quick, that it's sometimes very hard to make an instant decision, which must also mean that a lot of instant decisions are wrong?
We still don't see the reviews that the officials in the VAR studio see, and we never hear any explanation's either🤦â€â™‚ï¸

Imagine the scenario - the shite and Arsenal win their next 6 games each to be on 89 points going into the final game. Liverpool are 5 behind on goal difference. We have somehow managed to get to safety already. At Anfield it's 5-0 against Wolves going into the last minute but it's 0-0 at the Emirates meaning the shite are going to be champions. Suddenly under no pressure Pickford inexplicably drops it and kicks it into his own net and Arsenal win the league by one goal on goal difference

Table looking so much nicer. One game in hand over all those below us who matter and four points north of 18th. The best goal difference to boot. And the shite, not sitting so pretty now are you, knobheads?
And the only person I know who is in "the know" – Guardian journo – saying that the wires are saying that we will be fined.

That's another defeat for one of those brilliant teams below us.
These other managers are so good that they're 5 plus points behind an Everton team that's been deducted 6 points snd doesn't have a pot to piss in.

I fear we'll hear tomorrow of 3 point penalty for being in the "significant" category of overspend (as per last time and as per Forest) plus 3 for the extent of that overspend ("scale of breach", as per Forest).

Tony - I fear it. I don't know what's going to happen.
But, unless double jeopardy helps us out, I sense we've exceeded the £105M threshold again; so that the scale of loss takes us (again) into the "significant" category (and therefore a points sanction not a fine); and that the scale of loss is worse than last time – so a damning trajectory.
Please prove me wrong, Premier League. Please help us out, double jeopardy.

I have expected another points deduction since they gave us a few of the ones they took off us last time, back, if I'm being honest Brent, and unless the media are wrong, then the deadline was supposed to be before April 8th, which means the verdict should hopefully come tomorrow.
Whatever the outcome, my bigger concern, is what the Esk wrote about April 14th, being the deadline for MSP, to receive back the money that they are owed, and this has been uppermost in my thoughts for way too long now.
Have the unnamed Americans, been dealing with MSP, to see if they can purchase Everton? Or is it true that MSP, are going to take the ground, and let 777 continue in their quest to purchase Everton?
My own view is that the uncertainty of who is going to eventually own Everton, is killing us, and this is giving me a lot more sleepless nights, than the very dodgy (imo) EPL.

Tony, I agree you. I can't celebrate anything with us at the moment, my thoughts are always driven by all the existential anxiety surrounding the future of the club, msp, 777... points deduction it's all so nebulous... and there never seems any clarity.
My soul cries of a matchday in that we are so poor as a team and so... disintegrated as a club off the pitch.
Oh and then there is the red relatives banging on about how great a club they are run, a model blah blah. But VARi is bent and favours the big teams? You know, the ones with unlimited funds!

So many uncertainties, Tony. One thing at a time, I suppose. The EPL outcome. Game by game and point by point towards safety. A decision on ownership and our future from there.

The only thing I'm certain of Brent, is that Goodison Pk, has become over the years a very tense and nervous place, so I'm hoping that the blue gods, are ready to look down on us, and give us a bluetiful end to this current campaign, which has definitely been the worst in my near fifty years, of attending a ground, that has left me with so many great memories.
Get safe, get bought by decent owners, and then get those Kopites to fuck, when we end their title dreams, is what I'm dreaming for, in the month of April 2024🤞ðŸ™

I think 3 points at most, I'm expecting 2 myself maybe even 1, enough to try and stop Everton appealing as a sweetener before they scrap it in the summer. I will be very surprised if it is more than the 4 Forest got.
After the results over the weekend and our game in hand as well, I can see us pulling away after our three home games, should we get less than a 4-point deduction.
Poor as we were yesterday and as I have mentioned on another thread, we have three midfielders that will no longer be on Ramadam, plus Calvert-Lewin looks a lot more lively, we only need him to keep up scoring and suddenly we have 4 players that can make a huge difference.
We have to target the Forest and Luton games as a huge chance of putting daylight between us; other matches are winnable but those two games are a must, even if we have to grind out a scrappy 1-nil win… forget the performance – just get the points in the bag.

Brian, as above, I fear 6 points for the reasons I've given.
Possiby reduced by 2 (as in the Forest case) for co-operation.
So 4 or 6 points.

Might well be the case, Brent, I'm just thinking they gave Forest 4 and they appealed. In their warped way of thinking, if they give Everton one or two points less, it will suit them better if Everton do not appeal, so by giving them less, they are hoping for something that does not drag on after the season has ended, but also been seen that we have been punished at the same time.
All pure guesswork, but I think and hope it will be maximum 4 points that comes down to 2 points or even less for co-operation. I think we will get a nice surprise tomorrow, an unexpected reduced points deduction, fingers crossed.

That would be good way out of it all, Brian. Everything crossed.

Regarding Liverpool's penalty, did VAR look at it, they never looked at the tackle on James Garner on Saturday which looked a lot more like a penalty than the one Liverpool got for Elliot's dive. Michael Oliver on the field and Coote in the VAR studio miles away but not a peep out of either of them.
Who was the ref. on the field at Old Trafford and in the studio yesterday? I think it makes a big difference.

Dave - I think it is being 'Liverpool' that makes the difference - their stranglehold on media and officialdom knows little bounds and they are above critical comment even when very well deserved.
We have allowed over the last 30 years a culture of 'plucky little Everton' to pervade all aspects of the club internally and externally.
We all know the architect of such mush is no longer with us but sadly his legacy will remain for years to come.

There was certainly more contact on Garner, than there was on Elliott, all Garner did was lift two arms up to say is that a foul, no chasing the ref like Young did, like wise with Calvert-Lewin at Bournemouth, if we do not get them surround the ref get the game stopped and demand var to take a second look.
If that was a penalty for Elliott, then the two we were not given were more blatant penalties.
Like I have said before two now Everton have not got, where the ref and var have done nothing, yet as soon as Elliott hit the ground yesterday, and the two for Utd v Everton given, the ref was pointing to the spot on all three occasions, within around 3 seconds max, could not blow and point to the spot quick enough.
We will continue to not get them, until we stop being nice, and do like most other teams do, surround the ref and ask the question, or put the ball into touch right away to stop play.

Brian (185), Yes too nice by far Brian and on your last sentence I remember one of the biggest injustices, which we all remember, Hamilton's goal in the semi final v THEM, Ugly aka Tommy Smith took the offside(?) free kick immiediately and the game resumed stopping all arguments.

Correct Dave, and if you look at any other team bar Everton, they put the ball out of play straight away or commit a foul to stop the game, then surround the ref, we just carry on playing.
Klopp a while back kicked up that much of a fuss a while back, the official got removed from the following lot of fixtures, and the very next game, they got a decision go their way, he went through the proper channels kicking up a fuss through interviews and media, it went on for Days, whereas our Manager asks the question on the Day and picks up yellow cards, at least now Dyche has started to hi-light it in his interviews after the match instead.
If you are looking for standards, Everton pick up a fine after our supporters celebrated peacefully after the palace game for going on the pitch, just one idiot spoiled it by Goulding Viera.
Yet you have Klopp storming the pitch, while the game was still in play in the Anfield Derby and his heat of the moment occasion is accepted, while Everton had fought back from 2 nil down, to win 3-2 and stay up, Everything Everton do they try and come down on us, for years Red and Blue smoke flares were accepted, as soon as Everton do it to create an atmosphere, they outlaw them, and I get some people struggle with asma or breathing so I fully understand that, but it only came in after Everton were creating a fantastic atmosphere, both before and during a game.
Even now the fans are being punished, switching the Luton game to a Friday night, causing inconvenience on the travelling supporters, if it was not for the fans travelling, I would hope it was the most boring nil nil match, with no shots on goal, no incidents to talk about, and screw over their match selection to broadcast on tv.
For whatever reason, as soon as Everton gain an advantage, they come down hard on us, we will be remembered as the team that got two points deduction, in the same season, how can you justify a team spending more than us, getting less points than we got even after our appeal, the first being the worst in over 100 years of football, and Niassee as the player banned for simulation which has some how magically disappeared since then.
We can all feel sorry for ourselves, but no one can deny there is a vendetta against Everton, not just with the points deduction, but the most blatant corruption of officials against us.

Whilst reviewing this Citeeh Web after a few wines I wonder if it's worth mentioning how I have been enjoying watching City play recently.
It is though in a totally dispassionate way. I've sort of forgiven them for the money and am viewing in a strangely disconnected way. An analogy I came up with was Torville and Dean.
I knew what I was watching was special, I liked it very much and knew it was important and worthy. But I didn't really care very much. I wouldn't get invested and have hardly looked at ice dancing since.
Is this how I feel about football now? Narrh. I get up in a sweat every Sunday morning (Aussie time) and watch the match. Actually, I watch the highlights. My heart can't take any more.
I no longer want to study how good we are. I know how good we are. It's all about the points. I see us prevailing, nevertheless… but only just. And next season is not going to be any walk in the park either.
I have an abiding love for Foden though. I'll comfort myself with the knowledge he's an England player. COYBB

I was in Liverpool yesterday dropping my son off for Uni (John Moores). We had a lovely lunch at the Phil, then walked into L1 to get my nephew a Lego set for his birthday.
There were loads of football fans with strange accents wearing half-and-half scarves walking around. There were also lots of Atalanta fans.

Mike (352),
I didn't have to think too much about the choice, unfortunately. Alan Ball was a great player for Everton and he'd improved every season after making his debut for Blackpool, won a World Cup medal at 21.
He came to a great team at Everton and was possibly the missing link that made a great team even better. He had five great years with the Blues, then went to Arsenal. He was still a good player with them, and with Southampton later, but he was never as good as when he was with us.
Foden also came into a great team with Man City, the money they have has made them an even better team than Ball's Everton, but Foden is the better all-round player than Ball and his temperament helps him as well.
He has improved with every season with Man City and I think he is possibly their best player now and still at a very young age to improve even further. Some of the goals he has scored this and last season are excellent and make him a match-winner as well as a great team player.
Just my opinion and I know there will be plenty who will disagree with it.

Mark (191),
I was sitting in Queens Square yesterday afternoon and saw quite a few fans wearing those scarfs. Four of them came close to me and speaking a foreign language. I got up and went over to them, got hold of the Blue half of the scarf kissed it and said to them "Excuse the language but I hope you beat those bastards tonight!"
The lad whose scarf I kissed burst out laughing and said “You support Everton!â€
“Definitely, mate, and the best of luck tonight.â€
Worked, didn't it?
Later on, getting the bus home, a young lady sat next to me. She was going to the game, knew her stuff, genuine girl and we swapped stories about the way the game is going now. She wasn't happy with the way money is ruling the game, hated VAR etc etc, so when she was getting off the bus I wished her the best of luck with tonight's game.
You don't half meet some two-faced bastards among football fans don't yeh? Although I meant it both times and finished up with the right result!

Dave 354,
Thanks for that. As I say, I only saw Alan Ball 3 times, was quite young, thus don't recall much. It's a shame that, compared to now, there is very little film footage around of the players of that era.
Then again, my late father used to say how unfortunate I was never to have seen Duncan Edwards play (and he rated Tony Kay higher than Bally). All opinions of course.

Jeff (195),
The only time I ever had a scarf was for the 1966 FA Cup Final, me mam bought for me and I gave her it back not long after that, it kept her warm that winter. I've always had my voice though and used it well every time I went to the game. Never done as much swearing with it these last few years.
As for two-faced people, sometimes it's hard not to be nice when you meet genuine people like that lady was and she appreciated being next to a lovely gentleman like me and she'll never know what a two-faced so and so I was. If I can help somebody as I go along, then my living has not been in vain, I always think. Right, Jeff?
