I can't really get into the Euros but one refreshing thing this time around is the total absence of those silly little St George car flags!

Probably the best stage to show your wares, the Euros, but Broja certainly did not make the most of it and did not impress me at all.
Granted he had very little service, but seemed happy to flit about, never thinking of going in for a tackle, and covered in sweat doing sod all. Given a comparison with DCL I would settle for DCL all day long.
Broja has a couple/three more games to impress - otherwise no thank you.

Unfortunately the England fans tend to resort to hooliganism. I have never been into watching them play. When it comes to the Euros or the World Cup which are nearly always great tournaments I might show a bit of interest. If you find the TV commentary somewhat moronic, I have found the iPlayer is pretty cool for the games that are on BBC 1.

If you click on 'Extras', one option is to watch the BBC 1 video feed with fully synced audio from Radio 5Live. Call me whatever you want but I think 5Live commentaries are usually excellent.

Still, even with this arrangement, I found my concentration lapsing and drifting away to other things during that Italy v Albania match last night – despite (or maybe as a result of) the scintillating start.

The rest of the match plumbed the depths of boredom for me. Maybe I should drink less?

Southgate has turned England around since he took charge, he has got rid of all the childish cliques that came from players rivalry with playing for different club teams.
The team spirit and the togetherness in the camp is far better since he took over. Players now love playing for England witch wasn't always the case before, in terms of success he is the only manager since Sir Alf to get us to a Final. I do think if he had been more positive we could have won that Final and also got to a World Cup Final as well.Overall he has done a good job and the players all enjoy playing for him.

The tougher games are to come but some players may need to be replaced.

Funny thing is Guehi who was picked over him actually played well. But Stones was dreadful. That hospital ball straight up in the air from kickoff then that attempted clearance that nearly went into his own net. I wonder if Stones is one of those guys who needs a steadying influence beside him? Either way Branthwaite would have been better than him.

I've never rated bloody Southgate. Branthwaite and Grealish should be there and Twent in midfield in front of Palmer or indeed Eze. Pathetic. Dull. Negative.

Watched the entire match on TV but, as is now commonplace for me, for years, was hugely unimpressed with the attempts on target - a mere three in the entire game.

Kane has not improved as a goal scorer since going to Germany and given he's decided not to backtrack, in which he excelled at Spurs, in favour of staying higher, as he said after the match, he was somewhat additionally ineffectual. The physicality of Toney/Watkins would have been a better option but the best option would have been Cole Palmer, a slippery intuitive scorer/playmaker in the box.

Foden and Stones playing for City, with their plethora of talent all around them, find the game a breeze. For England they rarely shine though, but a player who really does shine in an ordinary Palace team is Eze, prolifically scoring/teeing-up chances every week, on his own. He should be in the team....... as should Branthwaite.

Classic Southgate there, take off your best player on the night Bellingham (see Rice vs Italy) and squeak a 1-0 win. Unlike vs Italy.

Serbia committed so many fouls in the first half, yet I can't remember an England player running into the box with the ball at his feet even once. Early doors I was expecting at least one penalty from Foden or Saka doing just that, but it never happened. Better to just check up and pass it back to the halfway line. Surely that's on instruction from Southgate? Yes he's reached a final and a semi, a better manager would have won both those tournaments though. He's likely to win nothing with a very good generation of attacking English talent much like Martinez did with Belgium.

Bellingham barely had a jog in him by the second half. No wonder he was replaced. Take your pick though, none of the midfield looked interested in playing the cut and thrust football they play for their clubs. Saka was good first half, to be fair, but faded.

The left side is a big worry when it really didn't need to be. Tripper is really poor on the left and with no support ahead of him we looked completely stale.

As others have said, Eze and Palmer should get a look in, but we really need to change the philosophy that slow, ponderous, keep ball is the way to go when the game is on the line.

I agree with some of your views regarding Southgate not being more positive, I would have taken Branthwaite as he would have given the team balance. I would also have taken Grealish as he gives us something different but think he made the right call not taking Madison.
We do have another overseas player that he picked and who has personality, is cocky and arrogant Jude Bellingham!

But how can he completely disregard Tomori, Lofus Cheek, Dier, Sancho, Gomes, etc but then agonize over Saudi based middle aged Henderson who went and failed to make an impact in Holland, after Jarrod had a starring by role there for a year before doing the same in the EPL?

Kane needs to stay up front and centre on the last defender. That would have taken up 3 of the defenders and stopped the pile on 2nd half. With him Bellingham and Fode. All tripping over each other in the 8/10 area Ingurlund will be out in the first KO stage. DCL could actually have been more effective than him and Gordon would have been more than Foden.

May as well have had Marti Caine up front

Rob # 201, you could sense a desperation from the commentators to find things to praise TAA for. It was embarrassing. The guy had a stinker but the media are he'll bent on him being the English DeBruyne. If he was an Everton player putting in that display for England he'd have been the lowest rated on the pitch with calls for him to be replaced with Curtis Jones.

Like many on here I'm not particularly bothered about how well Ingerlund do in this tournament. But the points were gained against a tough if unspectacular side. Credit were its due. I recall a mind numbing 0- 0 against Uruguay in 1966...things didn't end that badly.

Not very inspiring was it.

The England players with a few exceptions are over rated as per usual by the media who have a vested interest in doing so.
Then you have highlights they delight in showing which gives a false impresion that players and games are so good all the time.

Watching the majority of matches live now bores me ridgid, maybe because I'm almost 80 and have seen it all before, but mainly because of all the useless passing that now goes on back and forth.

We are now 7/2 favs with UK bookmakers mainly because they know the majority English punters will back them whatever price they offer.
They are false favs they should be a of minimum 6/1.

Dont get me wrong I hope they win the tournament but personally I cant see it happening.

Foden was poor on the night because he had a right footed player Trippier playing at left back behind him, I'm sure if Luke Shaw was fit they would have linked up better, felt a bit sorry for Foden as he just couldn't seen to get in the game at all, most of the play came down the right with Saka and Walker who compliment each other, I find it hard to believe that we haven't got a fit left back to pick, Shaw hasn't played competitvley since the end of February but he is the only left back in the squad, I thought Guehi looked solid and was the standout performer in defence.

Just the same old England. Huffing and puffing away for a narrow 1-0 win thanks to a deflected cross against a tiny Serbia. The other three nations in our group just about manage a population if 15 million put together. Not even half of Englands. A giant Gulliver against the Lilliputions.
Once again we go into a tournament with a bunch of decent players but no idea how to form them into a team and ridiculously over ambitious hopes of winning it. Apparently the 58 years of failure since 1966 are always forgotten at the start of these things. Just being called "England" appears to be enough for the likes of Shearer to get carried away. According to the pundits Bellingham appears to be the New Gerrard/Lampard/Cole rolled into one. Maybe it's because he had the good sense to leave the pressure cooker of the PL behind for European football.
I think England's real problem is it's the only time English players are surrounded by a wholly English squad. Back at their clubs they are very much the minority surrounded by top class players from all over Europe and managed by top continental managers to make them look better than they actually are. As apposed to 2nd rate losers like Southgate whose only try at club management ended in relegation.
