Manchester Utd U21s 3 - 1 Everton U21s

Everton U21s travel to Leigh Sports Village where they lost to Manchester Utd U21s in Premier League 2; kick-off is at 12 noon.

Only four players on the bench for the Blues but Seamus Coleman made his first public runout since sustaining a serious knee injury against Leicester City last season.  Everton went behind early on and gave up a second goal on the half-hour mark.

Coleman came off at half-time and Everton pulled a goal back through Sean McAllister after the break but the home side scored a third before the end to consign Paul Tait's side to another defeat.

Everton:  Barnsley, Coleman (46' Dixon), Butler, Astley, Campbell, Metcalfe, Heath, Djankpata [Y:29'] (46' Barker [Y:78']), Okoronkwo, McAllister (82' Sherif), Hunt.

I'm only a distant observer with no inside knowledge of Finch Farm but the number of players missing from the U21s continues to puzzle me:

Kyle John – recently back from injury, still to play a full game.

Charlie Whitaker – yet to play this season; long-term injury?

Tyler Onyango – missed the last 2 games; out injured?

Mathew Apter – missed the last 4 games; out injured?

Liam Higgins – returned from serious injury as a sub for 1 game at the end of September; missed the last 2 games.

Mathew Mallon – no show all season; long-term injury?

Luke Butterfield – came back from injury but missed the last 2 games

Katia Kouyate – first choice striker but has missed the last 2 games

Bradley Moonan – on the bench after 5 starts; missed the last 2 games

Ed Jones – not played all season; long-term injury?

Jack Tierney – not played all season; long-term injury?

Jack Patterson was also missing from this one.

That is one heck of a list. Well, they have a big game at League Two Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday (tickets available), so we'll see if any of the Injured IX turn out?
