Tottenham Hotspur U21s 1 - 2 Everton U21s

Everton U21s pulled off a fantastic win over PL2 leaders Spurs this afternoon at their training ground after the game was switched from Stevenage due to a waterlogged pitch.

With all 26 Category A Development teams in Premier League 2 now listed in one big table, Everton were languishing in 25th place, somewhat surprisingly above bottom-placed Manchester City, who normally put in a strong showing at Academy level.

Everton had won 2 and drawn 3 of their previous 13 games so far, and faced perhaps their biggest challenge this afternoon.  The lineup featured a new name, trialist 18-year-old Welsh forward Omari Benjamin, whose family hails from Barbados; he has been on the books of Arsenal's academy.

Spurs took an early lead after Okoronkwo had to be substituted in the 2nd minute after sustaining a hamstring injury, but Tyler Onyango put the Blues back on level terms before the half-time break.

And in the second half, as Spurs had their goalkeeper dismissed on the hour for denying a goalscoring opportunity, new boy Omari Benjamin scored Everton's second 10 minutes later to secure an unimaginable win at the home of the PL2 leaders.

Everton U21s: Barnsley, Onyango (66' Armstrong), Hunt, Welch, Jones, Warrington, Whitaker (46' Djankpata [Y:87']), Metcalfe, Okoronkwo (2' Kouyate), John, Benjamin (74' Heath).

Subs not Used: G Pickford.

Does Benjamin make the 11 players up as you have only named 10 players?

Are Everton trying Onyango as a right-back, going by your positioning of him at No 2?

Ooops. Thanks for spotting that, Dave.

Very perceptive (you must be utilizing that higher power!). Omari Benjamin is wearing Number 11 (as he did just last week for Arsenal U18s) and yes, Onyango at No 2 and now listed as a 'Defender'!

Funny that, as I could have sworn he was down as a midfielder previously. Some sort of miraculous conversion on the road to Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre, perhaps?

Michael (2),

Careful Michael, that higher power has got his eye on you. Even though it won't bother you!!

The man himself scores the equaliser…Onyango, assisted by Whitaker.

Michael (2),

Did Onyango play full-back? He scored Everton's goal and the Spurs goalkeeper was sent off for a bad foul on Onyango who was the last man on the attack.

It's a puzzler, Dave. Wearing No 2, maybe a cunning ploy to swap shirts with Kye John wearing 10 but he's really a defender. Musta worked as he scored and drew the red card foul!

And that bloke Benjamin who scored the second Everton goal? An Arsenal site now saying he was on trial with Everton. And an Everton site I think you know saying he would not have been named if he was only on trial.

No mention of his status in Everton's match report at OS.

Did Kingsford Boakye get his work permit?

Hmmm... wonder if that's the reason he has disappeared from view???
