What a difference a month and a half makes! Towards the beginning of this year, Beto was closer to the exit ramp than the starting XI. The 27-year-old has now scored in each of his last three league matches and has become an effective target man for the Blues.

When first-choice strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja got ruled out with injuries, Beto was suddenly thrust into prominence. Confidence in him had been thin, after all, goals and minutes had been hard to come by under Sean Dyche. The Guinea-Bisseau international had found the back of the net on just seven occasions in 35 matches under Dyche.

Under David Moyes, though, he is going through an exciting spell of resurgence. He has already featured more on the pitch in five league games since the Scot’s arrival than in the previous 12 matches under Dyche. More importantly, though, he has netted five goals in seven matches.

Beto’s scoring streak began in Everton’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United in the FA Cup on the day of Dyche’s departure. He grabbed a brace in the 4-0 hammering of Leicester and gave Everton the lead in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison that ended 2-2. He also scored in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last weekend.

“It’s just a boost of confidence, all the new staff and my teammates have given me the confidence to play my game. That’s what I’m doing and I’m getting rewarded with the goals and the wins.

“I do special training with the coaching staff, hold the ball, finishing. The gaffer just said, ‘play your game and play tidy and you’re going to help us a lot’,” said the striker after the win at Selhurst Park.

Part of the reason why Beto has been doing so well under Moyes is because of the number and quality of chances that Everton have been creating. They had the worst shot quality in the league (0.08 expected goals) under Dyche but that metric had improved to 0.15 xG before the Merseyside derby.

You don’t need me to spell out that better chance creation usually equals improved scoring rates.

“We always have pressure to score because we need goals to win. We’re having more chances under the gaffer and it’s helping us. We’re scoring the chances and it’s helping because sometimes we had a lot of chances and didn’t score. Not just me but the entire team,” Beto added.

The 27-year-old’s movement has been another interesting facet that has resulted in him receiving more balls inside the box. Before the trip to Selhurst Park, he had 13 touches in the opposition box and has racked up seven shots under Moyes already (compared to the 11 he had under Dyche).

Confidence is the final part of the puzzle as regular game time and support from the fans have helped the striker’s temperament. His shot-conversion rate has jumped from nine percent under Dyche to 43 percent under Moyes.

After getting on the scoresheet in the Merseyside derby and against Crystal Palace, Beto celebrated passionately in front of the fans. The love for Evertonians also gets reciprocated on the pitch through grit and goals.

“It is emotional. I can see they (the fans) love me and I love them back. This is a work of God. I believe in God and it’s really amazing.”

Ole, ole, ole Beto!

He has shown DCL what a committed striker should do with the on field chances he's had.

Anjishnu,

I was just saying to a friend, that he's becoming a cult figure with the supporters, however long his time left with us turns out to be. We love goals, but even when it doesn't come off, we respect effort. And lately, he has demonstrated spades of it.

I said a few reports ago, that whilst I don't always like to see someone benefit from another's misfortune, but when Calvert-Lewin got inured, I hoped he would get a run.

There is something likeable about him, including his goal celebration.

It's been said on numerous occasions so it's not rocket science. Players need a consistent run of games to gain confidence and an understanding of how their team mates use or don't use the ball. I still like DCL and I guess we might never see how he might have adjusted to playing in a Moyes team. That's life.

The difference between Moyes and Dyche style of play is like night and day. Beside Beto, James Garner is another example, he was out of sorts with Dyches style of play. You can see the difference in the managers press conference. Moyes is approachable. While Dyche was like a rabbit caught in the headlights. DCL is the best centre forward at the club, you will see that when he returns with an added spice called Alvaraze beside him.

Sooner keep Beto than DCL - shows a lot of commitment, always wanting to score - not saying DCL wouldn’t fare better but too many injuries now and for me he needs to move on with Broja as well - can’t take the risk that they won’t be injured again, although I’d never want that in our players.

I’m sure Moyes can seek out a few hungry strikers around the footballing World to bring in we are a better prospect now with Moyes than we ever were with Dyche. Out of the 12 out of contract or loan end I’d keep Mangala Alcaraz both no brainers, Virginia maybe Gueye rest can go 💙

Beto has what DCL will never hve and that is a strikers instinct.

Dominic is a converted MF player and it shows in his finishing. He is still a great footballer and excellent header of the ball but Beto is much the better finisher and we don't have any issue with his contract!

I'm not sure why people chose a thread about Beto to attack DCL. I guess that particular little band wagon simply doesnt know any better. I'm made up or Beto. He is such a likable fella and he clearly works very hard for the team.

Dyche's system was not designed to assist his lone forward, It was the other way around and both men struggled to score, Beto struggled to even play, but lets remember DCL was MOTM too when the shackles were taken of by Moyes and he scored the best individual goal seen at the old lady or years.

It's hard to believe this club has two center forwards, because some of or so-called have never shown any loyalty or support for one.

No wonder he has shown none back.

Different players with different skill sets, Moyes has done well playing to Beto’s but he would also have done well playing to Dom’s. They both had a thankless task under Dyche.

You can see in "Everton training" that Beto can finish, he just needs the through ball like Lukaku used to thrive on.
Beto is a physical specimen with a good injury record, he stays onside more often than DCL, doesnt get knocked about, also I read somewhere he is one, if not the fastest runner in the club.
I am so pleased for him, also the story of his journey from working in fast food place while playing in the Portuguese 4th tier is a testament to his determination to succeed.
I also think its brilliant that fans have taken him to their hearts, he will thrive and the fans always know he is trying even if he fluffs his lines from time to time.
When he score we could do with a few "Netto Beto" chants as well.

A nice post Anjishnu and believe it or not echoing Beto’s last line in your article the response to the Psalm 40(39) 5a was “ Blessed the man who has placed his trust in the Lord”. In church yesterday, keep trusting Beto lad and the Lord will keep those passes going for you to run onto, no stopping you now lad, what’s next? A call up for a Portuguese Cap?

This is where Moyes must be given real credit.

Beto has effectively become one of the 2 additions (Alcaraz the other) I always said necessary to have any chance of progression. Add in the invaluable contribution of O'Brien and it has to be said Dyche might have dropped the ball not getting the best out of them.

Barry # 14, to me Dyche had fewer ideas at the end of his reign than the start. We won the decisive Bournemouth game with Demarai Gray up top in a 3511 - with Garner excellent at RWB.

The early season injury crisis and failed takeovers left Dyche looking fatigued from it all.

As you say, Moyes takes a lot of credit. He's lifted the place, got some of the players really going and the new signing of Alcaraz looks astute.

We're in good hands for the next stage of our development.

I think you're right he looked absolutely shattered.

But it's a results business and reasons/excuses just don't figure he looked to have sussed out his likely demise months ago probably hoped new owners would publicly back him and supply funds, but it just didn't happen.

The downside of earning big bucks is accountability is unforgiving - win or down the road you go.

DCL’s period of excellence was under Ancelotti when the latter worked out that Dom was best with a single almost instinctive redirection of the ball from “6 yards out”. Beto is a far cooler character who can think more about what he’s doing over the 5-10 seconds it takes to run from the halfway line to a shooting position near the goal.

Indeed what we’ve seen this season is that DCL with a one-on-one was virtually guaranteed to make a mess of it and fail to score, mostly by hitting the goalkeeper. Beto’s goal on Saturday was pretty much the opposite: he lifted the ball just enough to get past a prematurely diving goalkeeper and a defender trying to block a shot, a beautiful, well thought through shot. So even though he looks like a muscular beast, in fact he played it more like a 1970s Brazilian, than a 1990s Millwall (or 1970s Redshite) goon.

The composure of Beto and Alcaraz on Saturday may be the beginning of a new School of Science if they can be supported by a more thoughtful midfield and confident defence. Anyone know what James Rodriguez is going for these days?

If you haven't got god given skill endeavour will always win out.

Beto has thrown himself head first into every challenge. He looks ungainly and is a throw back to a previous era.

I thought he was very harshly treated by Dyche. DCl kept getting game time, Beto would come on for the last 10 mins and cause more threat than dcl had done all game.

Broja wasn't even fit but leapfrogged over Beto to get game time.

Now that we have injuries the lad finally gets a run in the team.

We are playing differently under Moyes, fullbacks pushing on a bit, slightly higher defensive line and midfielders are looking to get the ball forward.

Beto is having a purple patch and long may it continue. A player who leaves it all out on the pitch is a great start in the current era. There is something very refreshing about his character, he isn't media trained to death, he wears his heart on his sleeve.

I don't think Dom will be signing a contract, Broja is made of glass and Chermitti is an unknown. Beto could be leading the line at BMD next season.

I'm delighted for Beto that he's actually being coached by a competent manager. He must have been on the verge of leaving last month but for a change in the manager.

The conundrum now will be the summer. I hope he stays, we'll certainly need him especially if DCL looks very likely to leave and Broja probably going back to Chelsea. We'll need to bring in two replacements in the summer.

Currently he's full of beans and hopefully he goes on to score a bagfull between now and the end of the season.

I think Dyche disrespected Beto and our new signings like o brien. The only think Dyche could recognise about a striker was the heels disappearing into the distance. I like betos honesty. He’s no Ronaldo by by god does he put a shift in for the team. His final comment on receiving his man of the match award “yes at last” speaks volumes about the guy and his journey with us. Well done lad

Well, I would be posting it — if I'd been given access to do so as a member of the Editorial Team. But I haven't… and so that probably means it's the end of the road for me posting here.

Great to see Beto doing so well, down to Moyes giving him special training with the coaching staff, also the team creating a lot more chances, and more offensive line-up. I don't understand the Calvert-Lewin bashing, in case you didn't know, Dom scored a cracker against Spurs and was named MoM in Moyes 2nd game in charge, and looked a completely different player, unlike under Dyche, where he was left totally isolated upfront, with no support whatsoever.

Quite an historic event tonight but no coverage here on TW. Watching on YouTube. Is it just me, but does the camera gantry position feel really low? Goodison in the 80s had the lower position and then reverted to the gantry under the roof, which showed the size and dimension of the pitch so much better. Similarly, at new Wembley, cameras too low and too far away. Hope this isn't the final camera position at BMD but lfear it is.

I think Lyndon, is an exceptional writer, but Michael, has given ToffeeWeb, so much content and you only had to see the difference to the match day thread after he had wrote his customary match report.

The match day threads, with regards all the other fixtures, have also been missing and although things constantly change and evolve Charles, I do think a lot of the regulars (people who have helped make this website what it has become) will also start to go missing if Michael, loses the right to do the things he excels with.

I wanted to do a Danny O style report but didn't wanna step on his toes out of respect.
The stadium is amazing lads, everything we hoped it would be honestly.
There will undoubtedly be those who don't like it or will take time to grow to love it.
To some it will be like moving from their childhood home with all its faults and downsides but with the memories of birthdays and celebrations to a new modern brand new house.
To me, it's a move with the times, a move we badly needed. It's brilliant. When it's full the atmospehere will be great. The design DOES keep the noise in. You could hear that with circa10k in there. With 53.8k it will be awesome.
Still buzzing from it.
They said it would never be built.

Sorry if I miss some things out. Just walking past the Everton way stones under the overhang everything felt modern and quality.

The plaza is immense and things were well organized inside and out.

Nigel I thought the stands were near enough. We were in the front row of the upper tier and felt close to the pitch. Obviously the nearer the top of the upper tiers you're going to be further away but same goes for the top balcony.

You'll love it, we'll all love it, trust me. 💙

Jonathan Tasker and Tony Marsh (I drive past every day and there is fuck all going on, not a brickie or hard hat to be seen) told us over and over again that it would never get built, and I for one believe them.

Forty years ago in 1985, I watched Everton win the league and the cup winners cup and it used to cost me £1.50 per game, to stand in the Glawdys st, including that never to be forgotten Bayern Munich game, and now they are charging £6 just for a fuckn pie!

Invest in pies, although it made me feel a little bit warmer when you told us all the wind doesn’t really get inside the stadium, Brian.

Seriously the ground needs a railway station when you consider that the track is already there and they don’t seem to be offering the motorist, much chance of parking anywhere remotely close to the stadium?

But where is the timely ToffeeWeb article, highlighting this incredible moment in Everton's history?

Well, I would be posting it — if I'd been given access to do so as a member of the Editorial Team. But I haven't… and so that probably means it's the end of the road for me posting here.

I think just get used to the idea that this is no longer where you'll get up to date news on Everton. You'll get a few articles at once when we turn up on the agenda.

We know what is happening, when it's happening, and whether it's significant. Because it's a big part of our lives.

It's kind of like asking a 'oh, I'm a big red' who they're playing next. Most of the time they'll have no idea and won't understand why that matters.

RIP ToffeeWeb. Another soul lost to the vast amount of money in modern football 😔 the new operators most likely just want the site to sell advertising space and they most likely seen the figures about how many of us post from the US etc… is anyone a tech wizard who can start a website? Do we go full AFC Wimbledon and start a breakaway site? I would donate to a crowd fund for such a thing. Or we spam the new operators of this site and tell them it’s wank. It’s all being ran by AI so I assume tomorrow somebody will run an algorithm and a generic article will be spat out about todays test event… We finally got our club back then we lose ToffeeWeb! Michael K, I nearly ' walked away from TW ' for the very reason you say you may do yourself. A ray of hope temporarily changed that when I saw you were back !

These wannabes are ruining the best Everton Fan Site EVER, by their attitude that articles will 'write themselves' or some fan will save them by writing one. That is well before a match or milestone event/article It is pissing me off good style.

I think most members were making allowances for their newness to the task but here we are again getting monumentally let down. As you so rightly intimated this is, or rather was, a historic event in the life of Everton FC. What did we get - nothing !

As if they are inviting or encouraging failure while purporting to be one of US. Echoes of the Maggot ? We all know how that ended don't we ?

Charles/ Anjishnu, get your fucking act together for the right reasons or I am definitely gone and am sure I am not alone either.

The one thing that is really starting to bug me DK mate is we get nothing for days and then Mr. Roy reels off a handful of mini 'articles' in a quick burst. They are not at all substantial and lack depth and feeling. Makes me think that every three days or so he turns to ToffeeWeb and thinks hmmm what can I write.

Nothing new has appeared in the spaces below articles DK - forum/general messages etc. - since the takeover. I bet this will be the same this time next week,

These new whatever they are not incorporating us as MK and LL always did Derek.

Why are people coming back every 20 minutes threatening to leave ? This site would take an immediate upturn if they did. This bitching and whining is becoming so very tiresome.

The match reports are almost immaterial. They are there solely to open the debate. Michael Kenrick's match reports were often a complete work of fiction. His confirmation bias towards certain players would completely cloud his judgement. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen one player receive thunderous applause at the match only to get home and read articles reporting that he hadnt put a foot right.

Michael has a lot to offer. His prepared articles were often on par with Lyndons - You don't get better than that. His knowledge is vast. He is a very fair editor who chose to let the game flow rather than take a whistle happy approach. He is most importantly an Evertonian - Hence the flawed reports.

If the people who have acquired this site want to keep the numbers they have. They need to sit down with MK and talk to him about what it will take to keep him happy.

Perhaps they are intent on going in a different direction and looking for a completely different set of numbers.

But can we have less of the Angie Watts ? If your going to leave just leave

Andrea, Can’t find the arrival you are reading while you are posting on this thread.

Am I missing something.
As for indignation with TW, Yes, is it very disappointing that there is nothing about tonight’s historical event but for all those with a hump who are posting that they are leaving and heading to Evertonia, I see no post there either.
Me thinks there is some sort of coordinated effort to discredit TW and get people to switch to Evertonia.
Currently, I am registered with both and will wait to see which forum provides me with the best Everton news.
The jury is still out. TW certainly is not the same since LL and MK are no longer involved but Evertonia is far from an adequate replacement.
For the moment, I will monitor both and see who provides me with up to date news on upcoming matches, post match analysis and fan experiences.

MEA CULPA

To you Andrea

Just went back to Evertonia and the site certainly seems to have been upgraded since I checked it last night. Now certainly looks more like the old TW. I joined last week when it was just a bare site and I probably didnt refresh it because some of the arrivals I see now were posted a couple of days ago.

Will still switch between both to see where I can find the best content ideally without the petty bickering which often dominated TW Threads.

Rob, there is an article on the Daily Fail saying how Sandhills couldn't cope with the 10,000 fans last night and the council should be ashamed of lack of planning.

As it has only taken 4 years to build and we announced the capacity a while ago.
I was asking for a DLR type and Danny O' was saying trams were needed and we have nothing

I look at things differently when I think about Liverpudlians, James, so it was just more confirmation that they are the most bitter fans, in our city, imo mate.

The comments section Rob, I wouldn’t bother mate. I read a few until it got to the one about the stadium, and Joe Anderson, ruining the city’s UNIESCO STATUS🤦‍♂️

The Friedkin’s have got that much money, it would be good to see them elbow our disgraceful backward looking council, and maybe try to join forces with the owners of Liverpool football club, because both club’s definitely need better facilities with regards public transport, imo, and the train lines are already in place

I just read that mail article Brent, and they definitely made a big thing out of the young Liverpudlian mocking the Evertonians.

All good fun but if an Everton fan scores at Anfield and produces two fingers, then he would have the book thrown at him, even if he claimed it was to remind everyone that Champions Everton, twice had to miss out on playing in the European cup, because of a tragic event, brought on by our neighbours.

James # 154 - the problem with most local authorities, councils, etc, etc is they have no vision. They let the problem happen then react.

Anyone with any vision would have used the development of the stadium as part of an overall transport plan for the waterfront which will see huge development over the next few years resulting in lots of people requiring access to good public transport.

We have talked about this years ago. I did an update of a solution that sticks out like dogs balls. Post 26.

Trackless Trams

The tracks for these trams can be laid very quickly at a fraction of the cost of other alternatives. The trams themselves can run on ordinary roads to other track in different parts of the city. A very cost effective solution.

The new stadium will host games for Euro 2028. Time for some smart cookie to cut a deal for funding with the powers that be. The alternative (sitting on their hands) will be very embarrassing for all concerned.
