Disclaimer () Michael Kenrick 1 Posted 09/07/2024 at 08:46:33 I must have been down with Covid when this story first hit:A German referee once criticised over his match-fixing past by Jude Bellingham will officiate England's European Championship semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday.Felix Zwayer, 43, will lead an all-German refereeing team.In 2021, when Bellingham played for Borussia Dortmund, the England midfielder was fined €40,000 (£34,000) for referencing the official's previous ban for match-fixing.Zwayer was given a six-month ban in 2005.Bellingham's comments came after Dortmund lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich.During the game, the referee did not give Dortmund a penalty but did award a spot-kick to their opponents.Bellingham, who was 18 at the time, told streaming service Viaplay: "You give a referee that has match fixed before the biggest game in Germany. What do you expect?"So he's a convicted match-fixer… but you can't talk about it? Jamie Crowley 2 Posted 09/07/2024 at 13:41:53 What the hell are they even thinking? The Euros is the second largest tournament on the planet, with only the Big Dance of the World Cup in front of it. How in the hell do you place a ref with a match fixing past in charge of a semi-final game? I don't care if it happened almost 20 years ago, find another ref. That's just ridiculous and frankly stupid. Paul Ferry 3 Posted 09/07/2024 at 18:38:42 Hang on, lads. There's more to this than meets the eye. He played second fiddle to the older and more experienced German ref who, it emerged in the trial/hearing, put heavy pressure on his younger official to fix the match. The older fella was banned for life; our fella got a few years with time off and credit for bringing the matter to the authorities before the match was due to be played. Mike Gaynes 4 Posted 09/07/2024 at 18:55:16 Sorry, Jamie, gotta disagree. The guy got involved in something very much over his head at age 22, in just his second year as a professional, and was one of four junior refs who reported the situation. He accepted responsibility and a six-month suspension (not a "few years", PF), and over the next 15 years, he rehabilitated himself into a top referee. How long is a guy supposed to burn for one mistake? Jamie Crowley 5 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:06:14 Didn't know that. Sounds like a fine redemptive arc in that case! Paul Ferry 6 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:15:38 A couple of years out, MG, but it did lead to the redemption and corrective process. Jamie Crowley 7 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:15:59 Link Colin Glassar 8 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:45:00 Looks like England and France bore themselves to the final. Last man with his eyes still open wins. Paul Ferry 9 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:54:41 Can't wait for the French anthem. Love that French 2nd kit; boss round collar Paul Hewitt 27: He's at Finch Farm.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Paul Hewitt 10 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:55:01 Come on spain Colin Glassar 11 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:57:29 Vamos España Paul Ferry 12 Posted 09/07/2024 at 19:59:21 The usual Iberian military dictatorship anthem. Mark Murphy 15 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:05:45 Re the French “second” kit.I don't think I've seen their first kit this tourney and as Spain are playing in red why aren't they playing in Bleu? (French for blue) Mark Murphy 16 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:09:07 Wow - so easy!! Paul Ferry 17 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:09:48 ALLEZ LE BLEU OUH OUH Mark Murphy 18 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:09:57 Pickers would've saved that Colin Glassar 19 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:10:06 Why are the French booing cucurella? He looks nervous Jamie Crowley 20 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:11:22 Hell yes! A France - Dutch final and I win the prestigious Crowley Friends and Family 10 person strong Euro bracket. Let's goVive la France!! Paul Ferry 21 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:13:43 allez en France, battez les putes de cochons espagnols de FrancoLE BLUEHey Hewey who was your source mate?Paul Hewitt 27: He's at Finch Farm.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Colin, in the German game - it's Germans booing - he gave away what the germans said was a nailed on pen but it wasn't given Julian Exshaw 22 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:14:01 Because of his handball against Germany, I imagine Colin Colin Glassar 23 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:14:19 Cucurella and Navas all over the place. Colin Glassar 24 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:15:48 Not his fault, Julian. They should boo Anthony Taylor Julian Exshaw 25 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:17:14 I loved the French team with Platini, Giresse, Rocheteau, Amoros, Bossis, Six great team Paul Hewitt 26 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:18:25 If it's a France v England final, then it won't be worth watching Paul Hewitt 27 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:21:06 Get in Colin Glassar 28 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:21:21 Golazoooooooooooo Paul Ferry 29 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:21:38 WOW great goalHe's fecking 16 Jamie Crowley 30 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:22:00 Oh my Lord above.THAT was AMAZING! Mark Murphy 31 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:22:18 Get the hijo de puta cabron de mierda gillipolla IN!!!! Paul Hewitt 32 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:22:29 If this lad was at Everton. He wouldn't get near the first team. Sad. Paul Ferry 33 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:23:23 The Lord is all around Jamie not above. Julian Exshaw 34 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:23:29 I must confess I'd never heard of him until this tournament. Great game this. Mark Murphy 35 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:24:46 Anyone else thinking “Wayne Rooney”?And shedding a little tear? Colin Glassar 36 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:25:07 Golazooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Paul Hewitt 37 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:25:15 Bye bye France Mike Gaynes 38 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:25:15 Wow, great game already.Did you guys see my post on the other thread about the photo from 17 years ago? Messi posing for a charity calendar with a baby in his arms... and the baby turned out to be Yamal. Incredible. Jamie Crowley 39 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:25:19 Traditionally, Paul, heaven be up the steps. Not literally, of course. FUDGE!!!!! WTF France??? Paul Ferry 40 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:26:21 how many ogs is that now Bill Gall 41 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:26:23 Well I guess that kept the cockadoodle doo crowd quiet 2---0 Michael Kenrick 42 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:26:35 Good game! Paul Hewitt 43 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:27:14 I'd rather like England to win tomorrow. Then watch them get totally humiliated in the final by Spain. Mike Gaynes 44 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:28:18 If this game ended right now it would be a classic. Three fantastic moves and goals. Dennis Stevens 45 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:28:28 best tournament for oggies, ever Brent Stephens 46 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:29:22 Jamal, what a goal. Colin Glassar 47 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:29:49 Can we get Danny Olmos for Xmas? Mike Gaynes 48 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:30:08 11 goals for this guy Oggie. Thelwell, please sign him up. Kieran Kinsella 49 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:32:33 I have been watching this game but had to briefly step away twice. Somehow I timed that to miss all three goals Jamie Crowley 50 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:33:32 Oggie can certainly finish. We could absolutely use him. Mark Murphy 51 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:37:08 If that's given as an OG it's cnutish Kieran Kinsella 52 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:39:52 Imagine if Yamal played for Everton. The way he is performing within a few years he'd make it to the bench for Tait's under 21s. Mike Gaynes 53 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:40:23 Shot was off target, Mark. Would have missed the far post. Colin Glassar 54 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:41:06 I want another golazooooooooooooo Mark Murphy 55 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:42:23 That Nico Williams is some player!Bet the Welsh are gutted they missed out on him!My mums maiden name is Williams - he's got the family resemblance… Mike Gaynes 56 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:43:12 Hey they changed it back to Olmo. Oggie loses the goal off his total. Mark Murphy 57 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:45:33 Quite right too!Good decision! Colin Glassar 58 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:49:24 Dangerous play if the Spanish start to slow it down and play tippy tappy. The frenchies will pounce on them. Paul Ferry 59 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:49:38 OK time to mute - this half-time Fox "discussion" of the "experts" is nauseous Paul Hewitt 60 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:51:08 This will end 5-1 Spain. Christine Foster 61 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:52:02 If Yamal was an Everon player, Utd would be tabling a bid for £15m.. Brent Stephens 62 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:53:15 Christine - and we'd accept the £15m! Mike Gaynes 63 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:53:31 PF at least that ass Lalas isn't on. Chiellini and Sturridge are actually not too bad. Schmeichel is frequently hilarious on the CBS coverage with Kate and Thierry, but on Fox he's got a stick up his ass the size of a goalpost. Mark Murphy 64 Posted 09/07/2024 at 20:55:33 Again, so many memories of Wayne's goal v Arsenal… Christine Foster 65 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:00:47 Brent, without any sell on clause either.. just a couple of packets of Golden Wonder, cheese and onion of course..what a youngster, yes, did immediately think of Rooney too.. how much has his value just gone up? Robert Tressell 66 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:07:19 What a good match. Both these teams are operating at a better level than England. France haven't quite clicked but they have a good shape and are creating good openings. England are being billed as cautious / negative - and they are of sorts - but the bigger issue is that they are playing badly. That's in both defence and attack. We've given up a lot of chances already against much weaker teams, without really carving out chances of our own. What is admirable is just how hard Spain work when in possession. The movement is very good - and they always keep their width.England meanwhile are so static in possession and also so narrow. They only spring into life when trying to win the ball back.I hope we get through into the final obviously but it will be a tall order to keep playing with such bad organisation and team structure and win. Jamie Crowley 67 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:10:43 This is an amazing game. I want ET and PKs. Don't want it to end. Colin Glassar 68 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:13:18 Spain had better get a 3rd or they will pay for it. Paul Ferry 69 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:13:42 Everything must come to an end Jamie. Everything is finite. Each little pebble will one day come to an end. Jamie Crowley 70 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:14:35 Jeez Mbappe is all mask off, 100% go for it. He's an incredible player. Jamie Crowley 71 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:15:34 Ferry -Killjoy. The Fountain of Youth is just down the road in St. Augustine, about 12 miles away. All the tourists swear by it? Jamie Crowley 72 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:16:36 I think all pitch invaders should be required to hit the grass naked. If you don't strip down, stay in your seat. Mark Murphy 73 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:16:39 Loudhailers / megaphones in the crowd.I'm pretty sure someone with one of those in the Glwadys street would be given short shrift! Wankers Paul Ferry 74 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:17:09 St Augustine is the only place in Florida that I would like to visit. Colin Glassar 75 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:18:19 Williams is a bit of a showboater and wasteful isn't he? Mike Gaynes 76 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:18:56 If I was playing CB for Spain, I would simply turn and start running backwards whenever I saw Cuckoo with the ball. He turns it over every time, usually in the worst possible position. Jamie Crowley 77 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:19:14 Paul -It's fantastic, but really touristy Beautiful old (relative here) city. Jamie Crowley 78 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:20:46 I like these subs. Fresh legs, enough time on the pitch to make a difference. Good subs. Should be 2-2 now! Big miss. Rob Halligan 79 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:22:24 Colin # 75…….so you've seen Brian play then! Mark Murphy 80 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:22:51 You got a problem with the Welsh Colin boyo?? Jamie Crowley 81 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:23:13 Good Lord what a touch by Mbappe. Mike Gaynes 82 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:23:46 Phenomenal skill Mbappe. He's not just about pace. Jamie Crowley 83 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:23:57 If Everton played this Spain team, our possession stat would waver around 6% I'd wager. Paul Ferry 84 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:24:41 France should be level here. The Paella lads don't look so good in this half. In better news, doesn't the first test match start tomorrow? Phil (Kelsall) Roberts 85 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:24:44 Great memories of a day in St. Augustine. Beautiful Place.Went for dinner - came out it was dark. How long were we in there eating??? Walked back to B&B. Showered. Ready for bed. What time is it, we had never check. It was 19:45! What do you do then? Get dressed and go back out???Would definitely go back if we had the chance. Paul Hewitt 86 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:25:05 Don't get the Mbappe hype. Like I never got the Neymar hype. Colin Glassar 87 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:25:28 Got family down in Wales, Mark. Good people. Can't say I've had the pleasure, Rob. This game is boring now. Dave Cashen 88 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:25:46 You'd fancy Saka against Cucurella Mark Murphy 89 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:26:08 Spain play absolutely beautiful pass and move football. It's just so simple. Jamie Crowley 90 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:26:08 Phil you ever get back there reach out. I'll drive down and buy you 3-4 drinks. ;0) Mark Murphy 91 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:28:50 Cymru am byth Colin! Paul Ferry 92 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:29:07 You are silly and daft sometimes Paul Hewitt. Andrew McLawrence 93 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:30:04 A lot of these so called modern 'greats' are very overhyped, I still look at old George Best highlights on YouTube when I need cheering. Mark Murphy 94 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:30:47 I wasn't being serious - I don't think Nico is Welsh any more than our Eddie is Irish! Colin Glassar 95 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:31:23 Bryn Mawr, Mark. That's all the Welsh I know. Neil Copeland 96 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:31:48 France to win on pens Neil Copeland 97 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:32:57 Wrexham, Cardiff, Swansea is the best I can do Jamie Crowley 98 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:33:27 How do you blast that over???Jeez man! Mike Gaynes 99 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:33:36 Wow, worst shot imaginable. Jamie Crowley 100 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:34:21 Settle down man. Guide it. Freaking 16 year old in front of pretty naked lady shot! Calm down. Mark Murphy 101 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:36:07 Are you in the states Colin? (spelling all wrong I'm sure) Mike Gaynes 105 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:39:43 Is that anywhere near Bala Cynwyd, Colin? Phil (Kelsall) Roberts 106 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:39:58 Jamie, most likely NC in future as friends from Savannah moving there. But there still is my mate in Jacksonville - who watches the game with Shad. Mike Gaynes 116 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:43:58 Mbappe caught the disease too. Great move, horror shot. Jamie Crowley 117 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:44:23 OMG France please put it on frame already. Paul Ferry 118 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:44:35 I hear that Port Talbot and Ebbew Vale are very beautiful Colin Glassar 119 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:44:53 Mbappe is becoming Iwobi-esque. Jamie Crowley 120 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:46:02 Colin hahahaha.But... don't forget that game-tying goal against Newcastle. Without that Iwobe goal and subsequent point, we go down... Mark Murphy 121 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:46:18 I don't “like” cucarella but he's beginning to grow on me as a footballing talent.Especially as I'm in the left back club. Rob Halligan 122 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:46:56 Anyone been to Portmeirion where the series The Prisoner was filmed? Spent a night there a few years back. Jamie Crowley 123 Posted 09/07/2024 at 21:47:21 Spain is like that fly you go to swat and the little fucker moves right at the last second, only to return and bother the shit out of you, restarting the cycle. I have the memory of a field mouse.Either way that point, er... or three, saved our ass m'man! Edward Rogers 146 Posted 09/07/2024 at 22:15:17 Rob @122,I have, spent a lovely day there, 1983, then kissed my girlfriend (now my wife) for the first time whilst sat on a bench in Minfford train station across the road. Don Alexander 147 Posted 09/07/2024 at 23:52:45 Good game, both sides intent on passing it forwards and running into various places to receive it.Wonder if it'll ever catch on with us? Jamie Crowley 148 Posted 10/07/2024 at 01:07:01 C'mon Canada! Kieran Kinsella 149 Posted 10/07/2024 at 01:43:53 JamieAre you just being neighborly? An underdog backer? Or dislike Argy cause they gave Messi enough penalties for no reason in every game to ensure he won the World Cup?, or cause of the hand of God, Falklands and cause Evita was a fascist?Personally I'm supporting them based on options 2, 3 and 4. Mike Gaynes 150 Posted 10/07/2024 at 01:59:25 My faded old Argentina shirt is working just fine, although they should be leading by more. Neil Tyrrell 151 Posted 10/07/2024 at 01:59:47 Probably a bridge too far for Canada tonight, a few promising attacks that didn't amount to much in the end. Would be miracle on ice level stuff if we could beat Argentina. Kieran you left Villa's annoying keeper off your list. Mike Gaynes 152 Posted 10/07/2024 at 02:24:46 Neil, you Canadian? Where from? Neil Tyrrell 153 Posted 10/07/2024 at 02:27:52 Yes Mike, born in Liverpool but lived in and around Toronto since 1979 Mike Gaynes 154 Posted 10/07/2024 at 02:51:09 Your guys are doing you proud. No quit in 'em. Paul Ferry 155 Posted 10/07/2024 at 03:11:15 I love Toronto. One of my favourite cities. Neil Tyrrell 156 Posted 10/07/2024 at 03:20:26 Lots of effort tonight but the huge gulf in quality was all too obvious. Still a great achievement to make a semi final, nice start for Jesse Marsch. Disappointing to see it end but proud of the boys. Kieran Kinsella 157 Posted 10/07/2024 at 03:54:20 NeilIt's a moral victory versus the evil ones Danny O’Neill 158 Posted 10/07/2024 at 06:23:47 France were my tip, but they haven't looked themselves. They've played like England. Very cautious. I think Spain have been the team of the tournament and deserve their place in the final. Playing ambitious football. Dave Abrahams 159 Posted 10/07/2024 at 14:17:48 Jamie (144),That link is not available in England, is it okay if I get a plane over and watch it in your gaff (house) next week? James Hughes 160 Posted 13/07/2024 at 17:31:18 If anyone is interested Channel 4 (UK) is showing the 1966 World Cup Final in colour, not black and white.
