Disclaimer () Michael Kenrick 1 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:13:19 What are we watching tonight, then?I think "Big Club" Spurs might be more interesting…Ooops, they're losing already! Danny O'Neill 2 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:26:07 Just seen that, Michael.Chelsea look to have the job done. I might consider going to watch the second leg with my cousin. I don't mind watching football and Chelsea is fairly close to me. Michael Kenrick 3 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:31:45 Yea, there's another "Big Club", Danny, seem to have done the biz tonite. But don't get sucked in. They do play in Blue. Oh! A decent reply there from Porro. clever flick… but obviously the keeper was in the wrong place or he woulda saved it. Paul Ferry 4 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:42:18 Is Amorim in any danger of losing his job over the summer? Paul Ferry 5 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:44:47 Maitland-Niles — forgot about him Danny O'Neill 6 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:49:32 I would say so, Paul. Dare I say, another sacrificial manager lamb to cover the arses of a badly run club. How apt that their new stadium plans look like a circus.I don't know that club who are beating Lazio, but I'll look it up.It depends if my sousing is going, Michael. He's taking me to Chelsea v Everton later this month with his mates, so not for the first time this season, I'll be sat amongst the natives. Paul Ferry 7 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:52:42 Jesus, poxy poxy Liam Mogan 8 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:55:44 That Reuben Algorithm is too scientific and process based in his approach to football management. Paul Ferry 9 Posted 10/04/2025 at 20:56:03 Have you seen this, Danny It's brilliant.Only second to Sheeds imo.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP5AlJ-giSw Danny O'Neill 11 Posted 10/04/2025 at 21:13:24 I haven't, Paul, but will watch. Steven was unassuming but great. Take your pick. Sheedy, Southall, Reid, Bracewell, Steven. We were spoilt for choice. Paul Ferry 12 Posted 10/04/2025 at 21:51:26 Job saved Paul Ferry 13 Posted 10/04/2025 at 21:59:06 Onana spills it. He has to go. Danny O'Neill 14 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:01:35 Oops. Maybe not. Tough task ahead for both Tottenham and United. Eintracht look nailed on for 3rd in the Bundesliga, so will be confident at home. Neil Copeland 15 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:19:37 Love them or hate them, a very good result for Rangers given the circumstances Kieran Kinsella 16 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:23:24 Onana — worst goalie ever according to Matic. Not a huge fan but Neville and Scholes eviscerated Bosnich then there was that Italian guy Taibi or something? Not sure he is that bad.NeilYeah Rangers seem to have the Unai Emery touch in this competition Danny O'Neill 17 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:30:10 Not a fan of Rangers Neil, but yes, they're still in the mix. Neil Copeland 18 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:30:20 Kieran, yep, down to ten men early in the game, a goal ruled out against them in favour of a penalty awarded which the Rangers keeper saved! Astonishing!Onana doesnt half make some cock ups. Neil Copeland 19 Posted 10/04/2025 at 22:32:46 Danny, they seem to have the luck of the Irish in Europe which is of course very ironic! Mick O'Malley 20 Posted 11/04/2025 at 08:20:37 Thought the penalty given against Rangers was harsh, no fan of Rangers but I was made up the goalie saved it, the usual VAR decision taking 5 minutes, I hate VAR Danny O'Neill 21 Posted 11/04/2025 at 09:00:49 Mick,I have no leaning towards Rangers. I wouldn't say I support them, but always Celtic for me.It's interesting, I only support Everton, but have soft spots with other clubs. Schalke in Germany, Roma in Italy and randomly, Wolves. That goes way back before I inherited family connections in the Black Country. I think it was when they won the League Cup in 1980 with a certain Andy Gray scoring. Fast forward a couple of years and they were in the old 4th Division (now League 2), in receivership with the gates at Molineux padlocked at one point if the memory serves.Their supporters are a bit odd mind, although I could say that about a lot of opposition supporters. Paul Hewitt 22 Posted 11/04/2025 at 09:34:23 Ever since we sold Trevor Steven to Rangers, I've always had them as my favourite Scottish team. Josh Horne 24 Posted 11/04/2025 at 21:15:47 Paul @22, it had the opposite effect on me. Losing Steven was the final nail in the coffin of a great team, and £1.5M received (£0.5M more than they offered) was a derisory amount settled by tribunal because he ran his contract down, pretty unheard of in those days. Sold on by Rangers to Monaco 2 years later for £5.5M, at the time the joint record for a British player, and they then bought him back a year later for £2.2M because Monaco were in financial shit. I can't help feeling Rangers & Steven completely screwed Everton. Brendan McLaughlin 25 Posted 11/04/2025 at 21:23:54 Josh #25,If that's true... it's disappointing. Josh Horne 26 Posted 11/04/2025 at 21:33:11 Marseille not Monaco, otherwise they were the facts as my teenage brain saw it at the time. To be fair, the decline had well and truly started by the time he left. I've been waiting for it to reverse ever since! Brendan McLaughlin 27 Posted 11/04/2025 at 21:39:56 Josh #27Teenage angst perhaps? He was most certainly an Everton Great. You'll hopefully come to love him again in time. Josh Horne 28 Posted 11/04/2025 at 22:18:58 Totally agree Brendan, my favourite player at the time so I was heartbroken! It's a hard lesson to learn that your idols are professionals doing a job and, not unreasonably, looking after themselves and their families. Liam Mogan 29 Posted 11/04/2025 at 22:25:06 I distinctly remember an Everton fan running on the pitch at Wembley 89 having a go at Trevor Steven. It wasn't far from where I was sat. There was definite negative feeling towards Trevor at that time. He'd run his contract down and was looking to get out. The fan was essentially questioning his commitment. He was shepherded off the pitch by Pat Van Den Hauwe.Trevor went on to have an excellent career but more as a midfield water-carrier type (he learnt a lot in his year in France). He was never the tricky winger of the mid-80s after a few injuries and losing his pace. Tony Abrahams 30 Posted 11/04/2025 at 22:34:20 I remember the fan apologising with a letter in the echo, if my memory isnt playing tricks on me Liam.He actually started a few games in central midfield for Everton after signing from Burnley, and although he did okay I dont think he was combative enough to play central midfield for Everton, at the time, but what a silky footballer he developed into over those coming years. He was pure quality Steven, and became a thoroughbred footballer imo, but we were so lucky watching that four man midfield in the eighties. Josh Horne 31 Posted 11/04/2025 at 22:54:15 Hmmm. Shepherded off the pitch by Psycho, letter of apology sent to the Echo. Move along, nothing to see here.
