I remember one Saturday after a match he spent 2 hours with fans. Tim Marchant 4 Posted 17/07/2024 at 14:31:18 This should be a really interesting watch.I can't think of that many one-club players these days. Danny O’Neill 5 Posted 18/07/2024 at 20:45:34 What a bargain, what a player and what a character.I supposed in the passage of time, £1M on Branthwaite wasn't bad business. Trevor Powell 6 Posted 18/07/2024 at 20:53:12 Whatever you think of Frank Lampard as a manager, he certainly got it right on when he put his arm round Seamus and called him the "Best man I ever met!" Brendan McLaughlin 7 Posted 18/07/2024 at 21:06:42 If you were at the Q&A what would you ask Seamus?I'd probably ask him which Everton manager (he's seen a few) impressed him the most?On second thoughts as he's back in Ireland so obviously he can only tell the truth as his mammy will be there...was it really a shot on goal? Steve Brown 8 Posted 19/07/2024 at 07:12:33 "He cost the Toffees £60,000 - a fee that works out at £142 a game." BBC Sport. What a fantastic club servant... and a great person by all accounts. Derek Thomas 9 Posted 19/07/2024 at 07:41:51 Modern day Legend Tony Abrahams 10 Posted 19/07/2024 at 08:18:20 Just read a great article by Seamus, on the BBC website, and his last few words are something I have always related to.We have got to believe there are better times ahead, because Everton is a giant of a football club, who just need to get things right.Seamus Coleman, has been the only Everton player that I think the fans could absolutely relate to, for many, many years, and if there is such a thing as a footballing God, then surely he will grant this very honest man, a day out at Wembley, and some silverware, along with those young passionate Evertonians, who have kept this football club going, through the past few horrible seasons🤞 Robert Tressell 11 Posted 19/07/2024 at 08:38:25 Tony, I certainly believe that good times are ahead if we handle the next few years carefully and don't pretend there's a short cut to success.Genuinely competing for cup trophies and European adventures could be about 2 seasons (2 further transfer windows) away. In the meantime we fight with what we've got and develop the players of potential. After that, who knows? But I take heart from Leverkusen and others who have taken a longer term approach to player development and squad building and reaped rewards. Colin Glassar 12 Posted 19/07/2024 at 08:44:30 Simply the best Dave Cashen 13 Posted 19/07/2024 at 09:43:13 "I don't think we have to talk about a contract. The contract Seamus has with this team and this club is forever" — Carlo Ancelotti Pete Clarke 14 Posted 19/07/2024 at 14:35:56 Went to Sligos ground last week but no tickets. Had a chat with a few people there about Seamus and they all agree about him being a top man. Heading back into Sligo right now just to catch up with some people then a night on the ale in Carrick on Shannon then Dublin, Liverpool, Spain and back to Oz. What a place Ireland is with a place called Dingle being the highlight of it all. COYB Danny O’Neill 15 Posted 21/07/2024 at 14:41:26 I just watched the Seamus Coleman documentary, available on Everton YouTube. What a humble and highly respected character. He certainly didn't shirk a tackle, could skip past players with his pace and has one heck of a shot in his locker.I always remember that awful injury playing for the Republic, but then him charging down the line to make a crunching tackle in his first game back. No fear. His commitment and bonding with the supporters is second to none.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBDwyOks40o Danny O’Neill 16 Posted 21/07/2024 at 14:52:37 Sorry, I think I put the wrong link up.Link David West 17 Posted 21/07/2024 at 22:54:04 Just watched this. Parts of it had me nearly in tears...not for any sadness, but just how this young lad from across the Irish Sea gets what this club is all about. Watching Ian Holloway near brought to tears with that feeling that this lad is what every young kid should feel playing football! Watched it with my 11 year old lad, if he takes even a little inspiration from this lad moving to another country, but never changed, earning a big wage but still humble, captining his country yet still loves going back to his estate where he grew up living In the city, which I think makes a big difference.. I've seen Seamus picking up his kids after derby defeats and most recently wins... deep in conversation with dads and mums. I could just see on his face without knowing what he was saying how much it mattered to the fella!! Some people are just born with a desire to give all they have to a cause they love. One other thing I took from the film: Leighton Baines speaks brilliantly... I can see why players would play for Leighton. One for our future, maybe with Seamus by his side? Brian Wilkinson 18 Posted 22/07/2024 at 10:46:32 If one positive can come out of the takeover sagas, the points deductions, then Coleman penning an additional one year deal at least lifts some of the dark clouds. What a loyal and humble servent this guy has been to our football club. In years to come, our younger generation will say "I never got to see Coleman play, was he as good as people said?"I have no doubts that throughout the season, the player will receive the odd post of being too slow or needs replacing; anger and frustration will get the better of some Evertonians… All I will say is embrace and cherish every single minute you get to see Coleman pull on that Everton shirt; it will be a long long time before we get to see a player like that again, or anywhere else in the Premier League. The love of football and loyalty, over money and media likes.Leaving Goodison will be emotional, but our next chapter will start in the new stadium and in time we will get to love the new ground and its surroundings, while looking back at fond memories of Goodison.Coleman deserves the same send-off; remember and embrace the same you would Goodison. Once we move and once Coleman hangs up his boots, there is no going back, apart from fond memories. Make the most of this final season and, if there is an ounce of good luck we get, I hope it is one final piece of silverware paraded around Goodison, one of the cups, with Coleman holding it aloft. After the seasons and knockdowns the Evertonians have been hit with, it is the least we all deserve. Tim Marchant 19 Posted 23/07/2024 at 10:31:01 I've just finished watching this, fascinating watch. I always knew he was a class act, but this just reinforces that beyond belief. What a legend! Every player should be shown this, from the little kids to seasoned professionals, when they join the club as a guide to how to be a wonderful person, and a great player. Ted Donnelly 20 Posted 27/07/2024 at 21:02:11 Seamus Coleman... absolute Everton legend. 🙠Danny O’Neill 21 Posted 29/07/2024 at 06:49:51 Brian @18, you say it perfectly. Both about Seamus and Goodison. He is an example, never forgot his roots, but is now a dedicated member of the Everton family. Goodison. Don't start me off. But we have a bright future with the new Everton Stadium.
