Tyler Onyango has joined Stockport County of League One on loan for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Onyango joined the Blues’ Academy aged 8 and made his senior debut for the Club at 17 when he came off the bench for the final 6 minutes of an FA Cup 4th-round victory over Sheffield Wednesday in January 2021.
He was one of last season's Under-21s who has been involved in the senior pre-season friendly games but at 21 he needs to be playing first-team football at a suitable level if he can't get game-time in the Premier League.

At 21, Tyler Onyango is absolutely miles off ever being a Premier League player unfortunately. Bit unlucky with injuries.
Time to build a career in the lower leagues and see where hard work can take him.

There will be other prospects coming through with more time to develop. Harrison Armstrong sounds promising already (wish there were Motherwell highlights available as he gave a good account of himself).
Shame, because 3-4 years ago he was progressing well.

Clearing out the old stock and making way for the new kids on the block, like Armstrong.

We've had too many players just hang around over the years, Beni Baningime another one who never came close to a Premier League career after lots of talk.
Not all young players will make.it, most won't, you just have to accept that, but a career in League One or League Two is still a career.

The standard of U21 football is generally no better than non league. The gulf is huge.
Generally this means you need by age 19 or 20 to:
- have lots of England youth caps
- have gone straight from U18 team to first team debut (League Cup or something like that)
- have done a season on loan at Championship level or first tier in weaker league like Eredivisie or Belgium
The U21s is not a route to first-team football for the best players. That is the U18s and the loan system.
Almost by definition, if you play more than about 40 or 50 games for the U21s, you won't make it — unless you leave and claw your way back to the Premier League via promotion and hard work.

Maybe this loan will be his last chance to show he can actually make the step up to Premier League level.
