Season › 2024-25 › News Kevin Campbell to be remembered in service at St Luke’s Church 12/09/2024 1comment | Jump to last The life and legacy of Kevin Campbell will be celebrated at a Memorial Service, organised by Everton Football Club, at St Luke’s Church on Goodison Road next week. The service, attended by members of Kevin’s family, will be held on Wednesday, September 18 beginning at 2pm. It is appropriate that the service will be held in the church which sits alongside Goodison Park, the ground Kevin graced so many times in his 164 match Everton career – and where he returned so often after his playing days had ended. Kevin’s career at Everton Football Club had great historical significance. He was immensely proud to be named our first black captain in 2001, and he cherished the derby match winner he scored at the Kop End in 1999, the last winning goal at Anfield by an Everton player for 22 years. But the service is being held as much in acknowledgement of Kevin the man, as it is for his playing accomplishments. The outpouring of love following his untimely passing at the far too premature age of just 54, and the tributes paid to him before and during the recent home match against Bournemouth, indicated the esteem and affection in which Kevin was held. All fans are invited to attend the Church to pay their respects to a man whose love for Everton Football Club never dimmed.
