Everton U21s 2 - 1 Watford U21s

Everton U21s left it very late after falling behind to Watford U21s this evening in their Premier League Cup Group F encounter at Walton Hall Park, to score two goals right at the end.

The competition has been expanded to 36 teams this season, with nine groups of four teams each playing the other group members home and away to determine who progresses to the Round of 16. Fulham U21s are the cup holders, with Everton U21s having played in the Premier League International Cup last season.

Roman Dixon and Harrison Armstrong not playing in this one, and no doubt important members of the senior squad for tomorrow's game at Aston Villa.  A lot of other familiar names now missing — Welch, Campbell, Metcalfe, Onyango, Okoronkwo, Crellin — all out on loan, with Djankpata having departed this parish. While a number of young names elevated from the Under-18s.

There were few chances created by either side in a goalless first half. Omari Benjamin came on at the break and came closest to scoring when his shot smashed off the face of the Watford bar.

But the visitors went ahead when Pickford was beaten on the hour mark. But it looked like Everton had to score after great work by Catesby who crossed for Benjamin screaming in on goal but a defender somehow got the ball over the bar when it looked easier to score.

And on a subsequent corner, Harvey Foster tucked the ball home at the far post to equalize in the last minute.

And to cap things off, after excellent work from Omari Benjamin, Jacob Beaumont-Clark skipped around the goalkeeper and blasted the ball into the roof of the Watford net to win the game in the last minute of stoppage time for a fine Blues win!

Everton U21s: G Pickford, Finney, Van Schoor (72' Butler), O Samuels-Smith, Tierney, Thomas, Beaumont-Clark, J Patterson, Sherif (46' Benjamin), Bates (62' Foster), Barker (62' Catesby).

Subs not Used: Lukjanciks.

Just a query, Dave.

Did your special blue package from L4 this summer contain:

(a) a membership card?
(b) a bottle opener??
(c) a pack of playing cards???
(d) a lapel badge????

And emblazoned on each item… does it say 'Season Ticket Holder? Or something else?

Lots of more familiar names missing.

Liam Higgins – no longer with the club.
Stan Mills – still out injured for ever!
Matty Apter – not seen his name at all this season.

More no doubt can be added to this list.

Brent,

For my sanity, can you answer my question @2? Or did you throw all that trash in the bin?!?

Dave Abrahams

Michael I’ve got all that trash what shall I do with it to get me to watch the game?

Dave,

Does it say 'Season Ticket Holder' on that trash?

Or something else?

Michael Kenrick

Well, all my trash has "Official Member" emblazoned on it.

I guess they could have made a parallel set with "Season Ticket Holder"?

Great to see Dan Meis at the new stadium.

Best part of the watch so far this evening.

If you are an STH you are an Official Member by default. Whereas if you are an Official Member you may not necessarily be an STH.
As an STH you just sign in and watch the game.

Michael (18) Well you must have paid extra to be an “ Official Member” mustn’t you? Well I never because most times the stream doesn’t come through no matter who you are.

Ps. What’s the score Michael and have I missed much?

Was that the interview with Colin Chong, Michael? I enjoyed that because Dan Mies, came across as a genuine man, who has developed a lot of affection for Everton, and when I listened to him explain his feelings about the intimacy inside the stadium, it is the first time I’ve felt positive about anything connected to our club, since that lovely night in April, when we fucked those horrible red bastards from across the park.

Dave,

Your long-running saga of non-streaming is set to outdo the ownership saga for twists and turns and highs and lows.

Can't believe that kid of yours doesn't do more to help a man in his dotage sort this out instead of indulging in his own personal saga of currying sympathy for his falling out of love with Everton.

Oh, hello Tony. Didn't see you slip in there...

Great result for the U21s.

Two goals in the last 5 minutes for the young Toffees 0-1 down on 90 minutes won 2-1.

Michael ((27), I’’d have been as sick as a pig if that goal had gone in Everton’s net, I’ll see the goal tomorrow when they finally show the highlights, by the way there was no facility to click on to see the game.

What I missed was seeing the two subs who came on, Benjamin and Catesby, looked like they helped to change the game, what a difference bringing the right subs. on makes, somebody must have told Tait to make those changes he couldn’t have done it off his own bat!

Sounds like the Watford lads will all now have to be binned for allowing the opposition to score multiple times in the closing minutes. See we made 4 subs with plenty of time to go and they apparently finished strongly. Hopefully sharing ‘best practise’ is a well used concept at EFC.
Will there be a reverse fixture? If Watford U21s are playing at St Albans I might be able to make it.
