Everton's Women's team emerged the victors from the final WSL Goodison derby when they edged neighbours Liverpool 1-0 today.

The Blues's decisive goal came in hugely controversial circumstances, however, when Reds defender Fuka Nagano was adjudged to have tripped Honoka Hayashi in the area, prompting the award of a penalty.

Katja Snoeijs buried the resulting penalty to send Everton into the break a goal to the good, a lead they would successfully protect, but replays showed that the offence took place outside the penalty area.

The result prolongs the Blues' unbeaten record against Liverpool in the WSL but the opposition manager expressed his frustration at the officiating afterwards:

"It wasn't a penalty. That's it. It changes the complete complexity of the game.  You have the referee, the fourth official, the linesman and the assistant referee all with unblocked views. Even I saw the contact was about a yard outside the box.

"I just give up with it to be honest with you because it happens every week - not just with us. It's cost us the game today, 100%."

It was liking the men's team everyone behind the ball bar one, get it and boot it upfield and hope the sole attacker can hold on to it. Defending super deep and depending on the keeper to do her job, which she did.

One thing that was different, we got a penalty that was most definitely not! The girl is about 3 foot 6, got tripped somewhere near the halfway line and somehow managed to fall over in the box without making it look Tom Daleyesque.

Was not pretty viewing for the most part. Thought it might have provided light relief from watching how the men are set up, but it didn't.

But well done on the win anyway. 3 points are 3 points, and good to see the other lot fuming about a bad decision...

Any derby win is a good win.

Well done, Everton ladies, hopefully this result starts their season.
