What a Finish! A Dramatic Ending to the Last Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park

Final score: 2-2, with James Tarkowski scoring a dramatic equalizer in the 98th minute. Beto had opened the scoring early in the match before McAllister and Salah put the Reds ahead.

That opening goal set the tone for the heated derby everyone had been anticipating. The physicality was evident on both sides, but the first half was clearly in Liverpool’s favor.

Beto’s goal came from a cleverly taken quick free kick, but it wasn’t enough. Moyes’ men failed to trouble the Reds in the first half, allowing them to dictate the tempo without much resistance.

However, something changed at halftime.

Everton came out with a different mindset. The pressing was finally there. The physical intensity went up a notch, and Everton looked like the stronger side.

Chances started piling up right after the break, and the net even rippled, but an offside call crushed the Toffees’ hopes. Beto, leading the line, proved to be a solid focal point throughout the match—a bright spot, but too isolated.

Then came the crushing blow.

Despite Everton’s dominance, Mo Salah found the back of the net against the run of play, giving Liverpool what seemed to be a definitive lead in the derby.

That’s when David Moyes decided to introduce his winter signing, Carlos Alcaraz. But the changes came far too late. The energy in the stands faded gradually, and Everton’s legs grew heavier.

With no real solutions and some questionable decisions—such as keeping Doucouré on the pitch—it looked like the Toffees were heading for defeat.

But then, in one final moment, one last ball into the box—James Tarkowski found the back of the net, sending Goodison into chaos. The VAR review, after a few tense moments, confirmed the goal.

The closing minutes were chaotic, with heated exchanges between players and a few red cards handed out by referee Mark Oliver.

This draw leaves a bittersweet feeling. Ndiaye’s early injury might have altered the course of the match. Liverpool’s two goals came from avoidable defensive mistakes.

Yet, the intensity Everton displayed, the passion they put into this last-ever derby at Goodison Park, made it a historic moment.

Thank the lord for the goal. Thank the lord the goal stood and well done to the players not giving in and giving the Old Lady a decent send off vs the enemy

Lucky VAR didn’t rule it out for the Beto push but we deserve some luck

Well done Blues!!!

Everton thoroughly deserved that, was excellent tonight. It’s great to see the redshite spit their dummies out at the end.

You’d have been hard pressed to say who was top of the league tonight. Great performance from everyone.

Relieved to get a draw. I thought we definitely deserved something from the game. Shame that Ndiaye got injured. The game would have been totally different otherwise. Hoping that his injury is not critical as feared. We desperately need quality. One relief is we will not see Doucoure in the next match. He is awful this season.

fantastic Roof Buster by Tarks. All the more sweeter, that it was clocked almost three minutes after added time.
That’s called «  a Break ! »
Very much what we deserved.
This could be the change we wanted.
Change of ownership, change of manager change of Stadium and a long awaited change of luck !

Everton thoroughly deserved their point.
By limiting Liverpool to just six shots all game, (their lowest total in a Premier League match this season), the Blues certainly deserved their share of the spoils.
Fingers crossed for Ndiaye - but it doesn't sound good.

Never watched the game put it on to record, reason, I guess I used to watch the wrong games as usually when I watch live they either loose or draw that must have been S.Dyche days as Moyes seems to have brought a different attitude to the club, but I just cant watch that other lot no matter who they play and it is definitely going to make my year listening and reading the moans and groans from ex players of how poor the officiating was in allowing their players to be roughed up and will raise a petition up to get the referee banned for showing a red card to their manager who they will claim was innocent. Congratulations to the manager and players to show playing Everton is no easy game at Goodison Park the old lady still has all her teeth.

Shaun @ 15; you won't need to Vs Palace. Slot why am I not surprised - a 'worthy' successor to Norbert the Trivago gurner...thats another company to cross off the list of degsy's approved suppliers.

We seemed to be able to get behind them, just not finish and that's before VAR gets involved.

Is there a worse Referee than Oliver, sadly yes, plenty. But he was poor today

On our (and Moyes's) part a game of coulda, woulda, shoulda.

I'll take it though - oh yes indeedy.

What a time for the recently maligned Tarkowski to find a hammer of a finish.

That lot having more derby victories than us at Goodison would have been a grave injustice, aided as they have been over the years by gormless refereeing and the goat-headed football god.

What is it with them though and their unnerving ability to find the most unlikeable, ungracious ingrates to manage their malignant club? Condom Head is merely the latest in a long, long list and deserved a red card for simply having a shinier dome than a lubed up ‘Lou Dobin’s Good Time Weiner Pouch’. Prick.

Brilliant draw, we played well too but that is not 'all' Evertonians could wish for. I wanted a win!
Red sheete CJ Caused the scuffle at the end because he's an ASS WHOLE!
Jags (a former player and Evertonian) saying thats what we hoped and wanted, no, we wanted to destroy the red ass wholes. Why belittle Everton?

Mcmnmnmn on about everyone wanting chaos, and a fitting end too the game, no, the red ass wholes caused that. We waned to celebrate although only a draw. They wanted to cause upset.

Gutted Ndiaye is injured, I'm writing him off for at least 6 months. It looked bad as soon as contact was made. Referee did not do enough to protect our players.

Harrison much better on the left. Not exactly a shock.. Dyche played him completely out of position for 18 months. He's no Ndiaye but can do a job for the remainder of the season.

Well, what a game we were down and out and they thought that they had won, but what a volley to earn us a point. Well done lads great effort. The Goodison fans were fantastic again

Ok, a couple of red cards and Slot got shot down by Oliver with a red card. Ho!Ho! But it all added to the drama of the last ever derby game at Goodison.

Another game to add to the historic memories of our fantastic club and we will enter pastures new to fight for points in more derby games. Bring it on!

Thank fuck that was given - almost makes up for his bum game last week - good to take a point off the Devils spawn - let’s hope this derails their season to win the title - Hope arsenal find their scoring boots - but not against us! Doucoure out hopefully gives Alcaraz the chance to start, but not having Ndiaye in the team gives us less of an attacking threat. Great to see Beto get on the scoresheet yet again - let’s hope he keeps it up. Bring on palace 💙💙💙

I watched the first half and then got busy, logged on here thinking the game was well over and the comments seemed to indicate we had lost but had Sky on when the panel reported the Tarks. goal and couldn't believe it then went to VAR.

Thought for sure it would be chalked off but thank God it wasn't.

It felt like a victory and for RS it probably felt
like a loss. Wonderful.

While I’d do not disagree that Doucoure has not been up to standard this season, I have to say he was my man of the match with Branthwaite by a country mile tonight. Why oh why can he not perform like that week in and week out?? In fact him and Beto were a complete handful for the shite tonight and used their strength and muscle. Actually I thought Oliver had a good game tonight and did not blow up for every push or shove. Nobody cannot say we did not deserve a point, especially when the shites second goal was really against the run of play.

Paul Conway
31 Posted 12/02/2025 at 23:05:40
Branthwaite really showed up and O’Brien was very composed.
Myko had a good game also.
I thought our defense really shone as a unit and Tarks topped it off with a scorcher.

We deserved a draw at least, Oliver bottled it by not sending Bradley off early in the second half when he looked to be getting a yellow card out but changed his mind when he realised he had already booked him, his manager did Oliver’s job for him by taking Bradley off a few minutes later.

We battled and battled them and Pickford had little to do with Liverpool having more possession but doing little with it but scored with a header in the six yard box.

Doucoure missed a great chance heading wide with net glaring at him.Salah got a goal for Liverpool’s after more poor defending by Everton.

Liverpool looked like they had took the sting out of the Blues after that goal but we never gave up and Tarkowski’s rocket shot gave us a point although we had took bite our nails waiting for those VAR refs to decide it was a genuine goal, what the fxxk were they looking for!

Then the melee at the end with Davis and Doucoure getting sent off and Van Dijk trying to wind Doucoure up and Doucoure blowing him a kiss and smiling at him and his hands telling the Dutchman to carry on talking.

Evertonians dancing and singing all around the streets of Goodison at the end and Snotty Slot getting his red cause he couldn’t stop wingeing and moaning and his mouth got a him a three match ban, Davis might get a bit more than a one match ban when they look at the punch he threw at Doucoure.

What a finish!! Nearly ripped the net off!

Watched it with my dad and my son we ran around the room like mad men.

Was the least that the blues deserved to be fair. We created the better chances throughout.

Fitting the last goal at a Goodison derby was scored by an Evertonian at the Gwladys st end! Will be watching the replay all day.

We've known it for ages but St Virgil (Wanker) has now proved himself to the whole UK what a real bell end he is.

It;s their cup final - boo hoo
Beto pushed for their second goal - boo hoo
Doucoure caused all the trouble - boo hoo
Curtin Jones was stopping him taunting our fans - boo hoo
The ref was no good - boo hoo.
We had 3 sent off - boo hoo Slot, boo hoo Jones boo hoo and some bloke who works with Slot boo hoo.

Now how many times have the RS players taunted us blues. Did we whinge, did our players whinge - nah.
How many iffy goals have the RS scored - it must be none surely, why else complain when others may or may not have done too. As I say a WANKER and total BELL END. Have a nice night St Virgil. Remember most of the pundits in the Netherlands think you're SHITE. Just ask a certain Mr Van Basten - now there is / was a player.

One thing that really thrilled and cheered my was Davey Moyes after that goal (what a way to say bye to the Old Lady derby!) and the final whistle.

Whatever any one of us thinks about Moyes, and I'm not one of his biggest fans, no one should be in any doubt that he loves Everton.

Quite frankly, I was unhappy with the appointment but I will be happy to see Moysey lead us out at BMD in August.

Exhausted after that but it feels like a win - have to say the match report is hopeless.

That fuckwit Oliver bottled it big time
Bradley should have been off.
Last week the RS subbed off a plater moments after he should have been off
Last season after a clear foul on Beto Konate should have been off, subbed moments later
They really are the spawn of the devil

Doucoure only went over to the Norwegians to remind them of their flight times back home.
Jones is a dickhead

Had Doucoure - twice, and Harrison, in the second half not had brainstorms we would be mid table tonight.

Great result in the circumstances, regardless, VAR is the worst thing ever happened in footy

Everton supporters take a bow, because after Oliver heard fuuuuuming blues loudly and VERY clearly singing "you're not fit to referee" (twice!) I believe things took a bit of a turn in our favour and you could almost see the cogs in his head start to turn and his brain possibly telling him (re decisions) "maybe you'd better try and even this up a bit, there's a chance you're looking as biased as fuck". I say that because when we need a little slack from him later in the game, it seems (to me) we got it. As for the predictable whining and bitching afterwards from the lovable reds, I wonder if it occurred to them that there may have only been about 4 mins added time, had cheating Alisson not wasted SO much fucking time pissing about with his goal-kicks. Up The Toffees!

Doucoure, man of the match. OMG. Doucoure was shite. He was the cause of there first goal. Missed two sitters, not because of bad luck, it's because he is shite. Tarkys goal was nearly disallowed because Doucoure was judged to be offside. Tell me of a worse number 10 in the Premier League.

We would have been hard done to not getting a draw.

I thought Oliver helped them out a lot tonight. 7 fouls Diaz no card plus stamp on tarkowski, 5 fouls McAllister no card. He went for his card for Bradley and let him off, then he gets subbed off. Curtis Jones on Lindstrom was worse than the arsenal lad 2 weeks ago.
I shouldn't feel hard done to after all of these years of shitty arse decisions in derbies but I do.

Thought everyone played well. Beto and Doucoure gave their 2 CBS as much trouble as anyone this year. Gana, mykolenko and Branthwaite immense.Tarks great goal after his nightmare last weekend

I just hope Ndiaye isn't out too long, a knee injury apparently.

A win on Saturday could put us above spurs and united.

Not sure why you posted that Steve Cleary (50).

You clearly have not bothered to read what Lyndon has said about Evertonia's intentions and directions. He made it quite clear that there will be match reports - did you see the one on the cup game (top quality)? - but not instantaneously.

It will be like waiting for the morning paper before the WWW. I'm sure that you can do that, for the quality of the writing alone, compared to, hmmmm, the instantaneous match 'report' at the head of this thread.

A point rescued, or three potential points lost ? I think the latter, the few hailing Doucoure as some sort of hero (WTF ?) need their heads wobbling. Missed a sitter, and his stupidity of celebration at the end, at least he will miss a game, pity it wasn't the rest of the season - what a dickhead and liability !

Hope N'diaye injury isn't too bad, after another example of unpunished thuggery ended his evening ! Felt the Alcaraz sub was far, far too late. On to Palace on Saturday, where I hope another good performance will seal our safety, provided we have enough fit players for the match. Great spirit shown in adversity !

I hate to be a hater, but you just can’t have non supporters doing write-ups on a supporter site. Maybe they’ll get it right eventually, but it’s not promising. It’s more than just having the (non-manufactured) passion for the club, it’s understanding all the little details about each player, their history, their tendencies, all of it.

But this shouldn’t be a time for hating — other than the Red Shite — so Up the Fucking Toffees. What a night!

Jonathan, good to see you again mate, I can't quite agree with your post, these new (Editorial Team) guys have just taken over, or are continuing the good work by Lyndon and Michael. We have to cut them some slack, and even if they are not like us (dyed in the wool Blues) they may be converted once they become acclimatised !

Also, I do welcome posts from genuine non supporters, say of the opposition on the day, acknowledging, how we played and commenting accordingly. I do not approve of journos getting access for their info to make up one of their articles on another site or newspaper. Then again, it is a Forum where anyone in theory has access provided they register, even though it is most probably under an assumed name !

Some have spotted what others have, esp the media, that whilst Doucs may have had his poor moments in the game, he and Beto were lively up front, gave the Liverpool centre backs a battle and an experience they are not used to.

For those saying Bradley should have been sent off and the ref bottled it, do you not recall Gana Gueye perhaps being a bit lucky when he pulled or held back Salah- at least I think it was Salah. Already on a yellow, it would have been a soft 2nd yellow and then red, but nevertheless, yellows are sometimes given these days for the most ridiculous of challenges.

I thought Michael Oliver had a good game. Let the game flow when he could, it's a Merseyside Derby, full of passion and emotion.

One last word for Beto. Tough game for him but his one touch finish was extremely well taken. The free kick was a one of beauty. Bradley caught off guard more intent with grappling with Ndiaye, great delivery.

Whilst the equaliser was more spectacular and more memorable, Beto's goal was an important one and just as memorable in it's own unique way. Whatever happens with Beto, he'll always have his Derby goal.

Also, credit due to Myko. He kept Salah quiet again.

I agree that having content curators and editors who are obsessed about the club as I am makes a difference. Hence, I now head over the Evertonia for Lyndon's articles and thought pieces.

But, I only used to skim through the pre and post match reports by Mike and Lyndon as I watched the games and made my own judgement. The fact that the editorial team is new should be taken into account and, as Charles said, they are sourcing contributors who know the club.

What interests me is how the other posters view the game, manager, tactics and players. Therefore, TW does the job perfectly for those exchanges.

Therefore, put the reports up and the debates can begin.

These are precious times Derek and Duncan. I didn't want Moyes but after the final whistle and his such clear love for us I do now. I really do.

OK ZZZZZZZZ and the heat back on today, it's 3F outside right now.

Still hoarse this morning, now watching the highlights. Thought all our players gave their all. Just where was the foul in the equaliser that the RS whinged about? More than double the number of fouls by them, an inconvenient truth, yet they bleat we wouldn’t let the game flow. Great to get under their skin as they morph into Revie’s Leeds, without the hard men but with all their gamesmanship, snide and cynical fouls, petulance and entitlement. Loved Beto’s one man lap of appreciation at the end. Felt like a win because we didn’t deserve to lose. And Slot should have the book thrown at him for not controlling his team

Drama, blue smoke, fire in belly's, a rocking stadium, and a just and deserved finale to the old ladies derby.
Could have won that, better team, better fans, what intensity, the emotion was right up there with the best night's under the lights.
Every blue played their part, and everyone deserves to revel in that, fecking amazing.
The LF was great, the feelings were palpable, and as for the stadium, wow, just fucking wow...

Don’t like it one bit that I’m on a website not run by Evertonians or for that matter Football supporters but the world is changing quickly and there’s a lot of stuff I can’t come to terms with.
On the game itself I would say that we weren’t so much lucky to equalize but very lucky that it happened as late as it did. Massive relief even though I was just getting ready for work over here in Oz. Makes your working day so much easier when you don’t get beat. How it ended and against them is bliss.
We are bang average but it shows that they are not that great. Couple of new signings could change it all and we can look into a bright new future next to the royal blue Mersey.

Well if the editors are not proving to be very good it is up to us to fill in the blanks and maybe do a little bit extra to make up for them until they get used to the site, maybe offer Michael his old job back.

Mylolenko kept Salah quiet? I know it’s not acceptable to praise one of them but Jesus Salah hardly wasted a ball all night—found a teammate with most of his passes, played one two’s with a variety of Liverpool players throughout the game and scored a fuckin’ goal, criticise the bastards by all means but we’re Evertonians let’s be honest as well.

Went to bed happy last night and woke up happier this morning but again one comment ——“ Imagine Dyche with this “ Well we bullied and battered those bastards last season at Goodison and won two fuckin’ nil.

Oliver did let the game flow when it suited him.

A head clash took 2 of our players out of the game in injury time, how do you explain the fact he let Liverpool attack until they lost possession to then blow the whistle.

Diaz made a foul nearly every time he got near the ball. Jumping head on into defenders having no intention of winning the ball, studs up on tarkowski, no cards.

McAllister multiple fouls no cards

Gana Gueye first foul was a blocked run resulted in a yellow

Lindstrom booked for remonstrating with the ref after another dreadful decision received a yellow card. Whilst every foul given for us was met with at least 1 Lpool player moaning at the ref and no cards shown.

After his Arsenal debacle and the following death threats I didn't expect him to give anything against them. He will wake up this morning with dogs abuse from all 4 corners of the planet claiming he is a blue after sending off slot and co.

I do have sympathy for refs, 22 cheats for 90 mins every week. My issue is the sub conscious bias shown to the big clubs. It's so obvious, look what happened to wolves last year when they moaned about the refs. They didn't get a decision for months.

I would rather we scrap the premier league refs and use uefa refs. Our small select group are far to familiar with the big boys.

Great performance that could (perhaps should) well have merited a win. A fitting way to end the rivalry at one of the great stadiums.

Moyes seems to have got a happier tune out of this team very quickly and though we will undoubtedly miss Ndiaye (surely player of the season up to now) things would have to go badly, badly wrong to end up back in the relegation zone with effectively an eleven point buffer. It's even possible that we already have enough points and I would not be at all surprised to see 18th go down with 26 points like last season.

If anything we should be looking up with Spurs, Manchester United and Palace all within 3 points. I started this season hoping we might secure a finish around 12th and thanks to Moyes that now looks plausible, though that may depend on the severity of Ndiaye's injury.

A great night by all the team. Branthwaite was arguably MOTM but special mention to Beto who proved his harsher detractors wrong again and left nothing out there. He's scoring a goal every 100 minutes or so this season (small sample size) which has him matching Salah, Haaland and Isak. Not suggesting he's in that class of course but I think last night was the first time he has started 3 games in a row for Everton and any player will look better with consistent game time.

Excuse my ignorance or naivety, but can someone please explain Beto's peculiar goal celebrations, which appears to mimic breaking a stick over his knee !

I am genuinely confused. I know a lot of these celebrations are totally inane, and quite often childish, not saying this one is either in particular.

What a night, when I got to my Upper Bullens entrance which is next to the away supporters turnstile, 4 teenagers with hoods on tried to jump the turnstile to get into the Liverpool end all were thrown out and one was handcuffed by the police on the floor. Then as kick off got nearer you could feel the atmosphere amongst our supporters starting to build, reaching a crescendo as the players came out. I think that atmosphere was equal to the Bayern and Wimbledon games. Then it went up another notch when Beto scored, but by halftime we had lost our most effective attacker Ndaiye and the other lot had equalised and were controlling the game.
I have to admit at this point I feared the worst, but obviously Moyes half time talk was starting to pay dividends and it was Everton asking all the questions, until the other lot scored very much against the run of play. Things looked a bit ominous and had to start thinking they were going to win the last ever derby at Goodison. But one last attack ended with Tarkowski lashing the ball into the roof of the net for a much deserved equalizer.
Moyes said when he took over he wasnt a magician, well you may not be a magician but you are certainly the best manager we have had since you left, maybe apart from Ancelotti. I did say I always say never go back but on the day the club announced your return I said in your case I would make an exception.
Walking along Gwladys street and City road hearing fans singing all the way, I haven't heard that for a long time. I am just glad that the Friedkins got rid of Dyche before it was to late, and appointed a proper manager playing proper football.

Well, the grand old lady oversees her final derby end in a draw! Yes, it did feel like a victory for us, and I think the raucous celebrations when Tarkowski scored, then at the end, was for me anyway, a relief that them gobshites couldn’t ram it down our throats for eternity that they had won more derbies at Goodison than us. That would have been unbearable, and nothing anyone of us could do anything about.

Doucoure should have scored with one of the two very good chances he had last night, the best attribute he has is his energy.
I usually give him stick but I fucking loved what he did at the end of the game.
That idiot red shite player getting involved protecting their fans - fucking wise up.
Quite obvious to me Doucoure was getting dogs abuse from them every opportunity they got and he gave a bit back and they didn't like it.
Last ever derby at Goodison and his actions will be remembered for ever.

I would just love it if they now implode, can't stand the barcodes but I hope they beat them, and another pantomime will begin.
We definitely deserved a point, and we would have won had Ndiaye not gone off, we are going to miss him.

All this moaning by those gobshites about Doucoure at the end, have very short memories. Anyone remember when Gerrard ran the entire length of the pitch, down the bullens road side, with his finger upto his lips, after scoring at the street end. Or what about rat boy Suarez running to the dugout and diving in front of Moyes after he scored at the park end. I’ve also just heard on talksport that Trent Arnold, after scoring at Man City last season, ran to the corner where the away fans are, but stood in front of the Man City fans with his finger upto his lips.

Kopites are Gobshites……Every fucking single one of them!

Tony Abrahams
95 Posted 13/02/2025 at 11:00:01
Christy, the first thing I learned growing up in this city, is how you have got to play the self-entitled, condescending kopite.

It was our cup final, but Liverpool chose to rest eleven players last Sunday, just be ready with the answers for them.

I woke up at 3am, thinking about Peter Mills, because it was not like him to criticise and I started thinking about last night’s game.

(Not really a criticism, because I knew what Peter meant)

I only heard them singing one song, because they thankfully sit quite a bit away from me, but it was that tiresome one when they sing about wanting to go home.

On that note Charles my headline would have been: TARKOWSKI SENDS THE MASTERBATERS HOME TO HAVE A WET FUCKING DREAM! Hahahahaha!

I have a confession to make, I left just after Oliver, never stopped play for two head injuries, with Liverpool looking dangerous on the attack. I had parked my car, in a terrible place and didn’t want to be stuck in traffic in those little back streets outside Goodison.

I remember saying to the people around me as I left, “I’ll celebrate in the streets” fuck me id already forgot about it until I got by the Spellow pub, and heard an almighty roar.

It can’t be Everton, it’s fuckn got to be Everton, then all the car horns were blazing and people were literally dancing in the street. My mate who went with me started sending me videos of inside the stadium, and said I can’t believe we got off, but I said to him that it didn’t bother me because I’ve never in all my years come out of Goodison, and ended up going beserk, when I heard that beautiful noise, from our fantastic crowd💙.

I didn’t know you could jump that high, he said laughing, but that’s the power of Everton, because sometimes they can make you feel eighteen again, just like they did last night

When you get it wrong you should hold your hands up.
I’ve been a regular anti Beto voicer, and I have to admit he surprised me last night.
He worked his socks off, put himself about, held the ball up, brought others into play and took his goal with aplomb ( is that how you spell it?).
He’s a long way off the finished article, but credit where it’s due.
Harrison also did a good job out on the left.
Wish we’d had more squad depth, players tired unsurprisingly and our options ( Young) were extremely limited.
Can barely put 11 out next game.

Loved seeing that passion both on and off the pitch last night - on here too.
Seeing the RS lapping it up thinking 3 points in the bag and ruining the last derby at the Old Lady only to have it ripped out of their slimy grasp at the death. VAR couldn't find fault no matter how hard they tried and had to let the superb strike from Tarks stand.
Just gutted we couldn't take any of the other chances to fuck them right over.

Jones losing it at the final whistle was brilliant - yes maybe slightly stupid of Doucoure to do that in front of the away fans but as mentioned previously he had obviously been taking stick and wanted to put it back to them. Also it's nothing more than plenty of the RS have done to our fans previously.
Van Djik showing just how holier than thou he wants to be portrayed - surprised he didn't bring up that 'horror tackle ' by Picks in his post match sermon.
I seriously hope this has fucked their confidence after the Plymouth game and had shown other teams that if you treat them like they deserve they can be rattled and the game taken to them.
A horrible bitter blue pill for the RS to swallow and I LOVE it!

Beat Palace by 2 goals on Saturday night and we go 12th.

And a draw on Sunday or a United win by 2 goals or less will see us still 12th at the end of the weekend with both United and Spurs below us.

And then the following week we go to OT - a chance for Moyes to win at his old team and lay the can't win at a big club hoodoo.

Seen a few people post praise on McNulty's write-up.

Years and years ago, on the old 606 forum on BBC, I remember having a pop at him because I thought he was too "big club" centric, and asked who he supports. He's an Evertonian.

Typically, he's very professional (sometimes too professional, to the point where it feels he doesn't care for us), but nights like last night, you can see in the write-up, and sometimes his Twitter output, that he loves the club, and he "gets" us.

Thanks for that post. I thought I was going mad as it was exactly the same as Brighton but against those vermin I knew the VAR outcome.

I only seen the incident once so thought I misjudged it as no mention of it in the commentary or analysis at the end. It was one of those decisions like Van Dick a few years back that just mysteriously doesn't get discussed.

I am not one who usually complains about penalties but I thought it was blatant at the time.

On another note Van Dick what a class player but a classless individual. He should have been embarrassed by his performance rather than further humiliate himself publicly like that.

I don't like to see this organised group intimidation of the match officials. Slot needs to understand there are standards of behaviour which may be acceptable in the Dutch league, but which are not acceptable here. they should be looking at a 3-6 points deduction for systematic cheating and unsportsmanlike behaviour. Disgraceful. I think Doucoure was trying to point this out to some of their fans when he was attacked by Jones.

Honestly, and truthfully I have changed dramatically.
Lots of us remember the old days, no tickets, no segregation, going the pub together before and after the match. Many going the other teams ground - was never one of them!
Rivalry yet acceptance

Slowly over the years a gulf has appeared between the fan bases and is widening every day

I am appalled by the absolute shite I’ve heard and read from our neighbours supporters both last night and today.

I met and also spoke with my RS mates who I have known since before we went to infants school. Real proper RS supporters and honestly they never even brought up the so called foul, never mentioned the after game handbags! The antics of their manager and players. The Doucoure “incitement”

We were brought up on real footy, real players.

On a different note, of topic, on BBC website, there's an announcement that 'Semi-automated offside technology to be used for first time in England'

To be used for first time in England during the fifth round of the FA Cup in March, but only in seven of the eight FA Cup matches with a possibility that it may also be implemented in the Premier League 'later this season'.

Surely, it should be in all 8 FA Cup ties or not at all - I understand that it may not be possible at some grounds, so don't implement it.

Also, if they want it in the PL, wait til next season.

I know Dyche is a mate of yours, but he had us playing the worst football I have seen in a long time. He always made out he was getting the best out of this group, well clearly Moyes is showing he wasn't. We hardly seen O,Brien under Dyche and his excuse was he hadnt got up to Premier league level, clearly again Moyes has proved him wrong.

I hated Dyche with a passion, his pre and post match interviews were not worth listening to, and unlike Moyes who obviously loves this club were to Dyche it was just a job. But hey don't take my word listen to what the players are saying about the difference between Dyche and Moyes. Also Moyes is doing it without Mangala, DCL and Broja and last night he lost our main attacking threat when Ndaiye went off in the first half.

Also to answer your question I was there against the other lot last year and was delighted as always with the win but that was inspite of Dyche not because of him.

Also last season he went 15 games without winning a game, luckiest man ever to get to manage this club and Moshiri should never have hired him..

Connor # 116, what annoys me now is the furore from the RS positions them as the victims (irony) when we were robbed of a penalty. I thought there'd at least be some indignation on an Everton fan site bit pretty much nothing.

It's all playing into Sky / RS hands by being so meek and accepting of it. I didn't want Mourinho as manager here but he would give us a lesson in creating a media storm.

The pressure that refs are now under when officiating RS matches is incredible.

To the new owners of Toffeweb - I'd have loved the headline to be "late justice for Blues after penalty denied"

To the new owners of Everton, work much much harder on media influence. It could add another 10 points per season at least.

One thing which has appeared on the BBC website is that Seamus and the club arranged for the 15 year old boy from Australia, Mackenzie, to be flown over from Sydney to watch the final Derby.

He's the one who had saved up and flown over for December's postponed match.

Another great gesture from the club. We may not do certain things right as a club but feel sure there's a lot that goes unnoticed.

watched the game over last night, was at the previous game at Goodison Park on the 24th April and the atmosphere was great but it seems that the atmosphere last night had gone up quite a few more notches and showed on TV. Every player the manager and coaches deserve all the praises given to them. It was definitely sad to see Ndaiye come off but I think Harrison, who does get a fair bit of stick on here, looked a lot better and more effective on the left wing than the right.

The best thing last night was the SKY SPORTS holier than though team were made to look what they are, and that was a bunch of spoiled brats.

And they call us bitter. I am not one eyed enough to think we are substantially different, they are our families, workmates and friends. But any pretense of similarity went out of the window decades ago, the arrogance of entitlement replacing banter but their hatred of Everton exposes truth for what it is. They may have won titles, cups etc, but they fear us like no other, they do not, cannot achieve something they long for, something we have and they never will. Class.
Their charade of greatness is worthless because of their failure to accept they have always been second best in this city, never original, without Everton they would never have existed. It's a knife twisted that only confirms they where a poor copy of an original club, Everton FC.
Their bile for us is irrational, their fear of us is not, for they know, no matter what they win, they can never be the first, never be accepted as original, always condemned to looking over their shoulder, in fear, not for RM, but for Everton FC.
They are right to fear, next season will rightfully restore the status of Everton FC as the primary club that represents out city.
I for one, am not jealous of their achievements, for me they are worthless tin cups, because of the entitlement and arrogance they portrayed. I value a single trophy in 30 years more.
We are Everton. Class is forever.

I see where Doucoure is getting loads of racial abuse, not surprised considering the redshite history, and so much for Slot in his press conference telling his players to keep cool heads, he shows like Klopp, the smile is only a front. Just reading that speculation Ndiaye might have knee ligament damage hoping for the best.

Of ToffeeWeb. My go to site for the last 20 years, has lost its parents. They have shaped the narrative, fashioned its contribution and grew into a family.
Michael and Lyndon cannot be replaced by any sports media company, content writer or guest, because they earned our respect as we grew with the site.
Yes, it will become better, more understanding of what ToffeeWeb is to many of us but a company has replaced two people who were (are) passionate blues, ToffeeWeb was not just about Everton, it was about us, the fans, the people, their views, their memories. Try explained to a Sports media company why the teams have different areas of the city, what the Football Pink was, the Holy Trinity is nothing to do with catholicism. They way of life in Liverpool and how it has shaped us, why we chose Everton.
Michael and Lyndon understood the site was more than "just" Everton, it was a social history, the story of the fans, not just the teams. It may have continually infuriated them with our banal comments on family histrionics, but it was and is the context of who we are and why we support Everton FC.
They understood that because it was also part of their history. Now a company with no affiliations to the club or city owns ToffeeWeb and it may well report everything it can on the blues but that's just match reports or football items, the two people who made the site special have moved on leaving a void for a sports media to fill. ToffeeWeb will continue I have no doubt, but one should never under estimate the value of the social history and context to Everton FC that both Michael and Lyndon did.
If I was in our new owners shoes I would look for someone who has that awareness as a passionate blue to drive the site on, a figurehead perhaps but one who knows who we are, where we came from and why we exist.

Can't believe Doucoure is suffering from Racist abuse because of the result of a football match or what went on on the pitch, what makes somebody go on line and send out a torrent of vile abuse over football, its pathetic, honestly this type of stuff is really making me go off football, no football match, the result or any indiscretions on the pitch gives anybody the right to racially abuse anyone, besides that loving the fighting spirit the team are showing right to the last whistle, what a goal, my throat is still sore from screaming UTFT, Christine absolutely spot on @126, Van Dyke really pissed me off with his"its their cup final" line Brian @122 I completely agree with every word in your post

Brian, I might know Sean Dyche, mate, but I still thought he had to go in the end. I agreed with everything in your first post Brian, (but felt I had to question your memory, to see if it was being a little bit selective!) and your second post explains a lot more about your feelings towards Dyche, especially if you was their last season, on a night when the Evertonians, were definitely singing in the street.

I found your second to last paragraph a bit sad really Brian, but each to his own mate, and I for one was glad that Moshiri hired Dyche, after he got rid of Lampard, because I definitely felt he did a very good job in keeping us up, at a time when everyone was absolutely on their knees imo.

I don’t particularly like Moyes, (I don’t dislike him, and definitely think he’s a much better manager for his experiences since he left Everton) but you couldn’t fault the effort and commitment of every single Everton player last night.

With no real craft in our team, I was delighted with the way we had Liverpool totally rattled during the second half last night, so I believe Moyes deserves a lot of credit, for helping to unite everyone connected to Everton football club, since he came back and in particular last night👏

I don’t know how anyone who truly understands Liverpool football club, would be pissed off by Van Dyke saying it was our cup final.

It’s what they do, they came to Goodison last night with their 30 years balloons, intent on taking the piss, and despite not playing well they nearly got away with it.

I never opened my first WhatsApp until after 1O’Clock, but I already knew that Liverpool heads had fell off because I understand everything about their self entitlement.

They will have woken up this morning wishing they were playing us again on Saturday, instead of realising they are actually seven points clear at the top.

That’s Liverpudlians for you, and it’s why I’ve never accepted being called a bitter blue, from the most self entitled and most bitter of fanbases, whenever something doesn’t go quite their way.

Tony (135), I think Sean Dyche helped to keep us up twice and I think quite a few fans will remember that and be grateful for his management of the team and club at a very dangerous time when Kenwright deserted the club and refused to come and support the team he allegedly loved, using false allegations as the reason.

Mind you some supporters still admire Kenwright.

My ‘2 cents’:
Draw probably right result.
Our second should never have been in doubt. Konate was hardly touched - that’s obvious because he never appealed - so VAR could’nt class it as a clear / obvious error by ref.
The extra time on the board is a minimum not maximum. Someone has already pointed out the clash of heads delay happened in added-on time so that will more than cover the extra bit Tarks scored in.
Doucs behaviour at end was daft but it didn’t warrant Jones laying hands on him. If he didn’t like it he could have just fronted him up to make him withdraw.
I didn’t think Beto was isolated in this game.
Davey Moyes is really impressing me with his comportment (I think that word is right) and has done everything right with the players so far. Long may it continue.
Charles T - I wasn’t on the Live Forum last night (I’m an infrequent user) but I’m amazed that you are trying to post on that if you are also responsible for the rapid match report. I could easily be wrong but don’t remember MK ever doing that and I think that is too challenging a multi tasking scenario for any man. You may need to employ a woman to do that. If not, you may want to consider devoting yourself to one or the other. Unless you are a world-class fish punner, I’d recommend shelving joining in the fun on the Live Forum, at least until you’ve properly found your ‘voice’ for the detailed reports.

Almost seventy-one years on from my first visit to Goodison Park (February 27th, 1954), I made last night what I expect to be my final visit.

Over those years I've made over two hundred and fifty visits, most of them in the fifties and sixties when I lived at home and had a Paddock season ticket for four years.

Last night, I was given a free ticket by my son's friend who lives in San Francisco, he had tickets for the original date, but after coming over the storm ruined his trip and he had to go back and he passed his ticket on to me.So, me and my son and grandson, journeyed up from Rutland and took our places in the Goodison Road Stand (row EE, seats 37,38 and 39)at about seven. Ironically it was the same stand, where I watched my first game, though at the other end of the ground. The game was exciting, feisty and had the wonderful dramatic endng. I loved it and was as excited and moved as I've ever been (Wembley 1966 may be the exception) at any Everton game over these last seventy years.

The excited seven year old, from a family of reds, who had a dad who was a merchant seaman( a red as were 90% of my relatives on both sides) but when he was home he went to the match at Anfield or Goodison. I went along with him, I think I had an allegiance to Liverpool, but my football was all about Stanley Matthews (I'd listened to the 1953 Cup Final on the wireless). In fact my first ever game was to see Matthews play at Anfield in December 1953, my family thought he'd retire before I'd see him. The game against Plymouth in February '54, made me an Evertonian, or rather the dashing Dave Hickson did, though if there'd been any logic to it my hero would have been John-Willie Parker who scored four that day to Hickson's two. But Hickson had charisma, he was instantly recognisable and he made me an Evertonian. Everton, of course won 8-4 and I've never yet seen another twelve goal game.

Last night Goodison was bubbling, it took some doing (I now need a stick) but I managed the walk from the carpark and then climbed the interminable steps to our seats. The game was worth it and at the end as I walked down those steps tears tripping me I said goodbye to the old lady and the wonderful memories she has given me.

I was sixteen in 62-3 and Alex Young remains my Everton hero, his grace and charisma are untouched. My dad (older readers think Tarleton and Roderick) took me to spend an afternoon with W.R. Dean, he wasn't too fond of his epiphet, and my dad told me not to mention it. I didn't but when the "Dublin Packet closed, he sat with us for two hours and was a lovely gentleman and he too loved Alex Young.

I hope my body lasts out so that I do get to Bramley Moore, we've bought our brick, it may not, but thank you for last night and thank you for the memories.

Delighted with a draw. They're top of the league for good reason and we gave them a good game last night.

Moyes Everton certainly gives you more than a Dyche Everton that's for sure.

As the song says, we (I) don't care what the Red Shite say, so any bleating to the press falls on deaf hears in my house. They can complain all they like, it matters not because the game is over and we got a deserved draw in the most dramatic fashion.

It was a near perfect send-off for the Old Lady in her last derby, and I'm so glad it got rearranged, partly because it made sure it was a night game, and secondly because Dyche has gone now.

I've been pretty apathetic watching Everton under Dyche but last night, for the first time in a couple of years, I felt excited, engaged and up for it. Hell I even screamed at the TV for 90 minutes for the first time in years!

Great goal at the end, great scenes, and if it goes some way to derailing their season, then great. If not, I don't care and we now have a great memory of Goodison's last derby to keep forever along with a shared winning record which would have been unthinkable.

Tony#95, my criticism at #45 was borne out of a degree of frustration, and was a bit harsh.

I had spent the evening surrounded by rs, I got back to my digs and wanted to celebrate with Evertonians. This site has been my go-to place for many years, and I wanted to read something less bland than the report and the relatively few comments that had been made. So my post was rather petulant and churlish.

I have always enjoyed Lyndon’s writing, so I suspect I will be turning to Evertonia (where I have posted a comment on my unusual derby evening).

Si #144, I assume Charles was on the Live Forum in order to immerse himself as quickly as possible in the culture of TW by exchanging with its denizens. I give him full credit for that.

Christine #131, I guess it's all in how you look at it. We all lose our parents. Families grow and evolve and change. I'm into my 40th year as an Everton supporter, and hope and believe I add a little something here from time to time, yet I've visited Merseyside three times and have no idea why the teams have different areas of the city. I never heard of the Football Pink, couldn't identify photos of the Trinity, and have barely a Wikipedia-deep awareness of the club/city's social history. What little I know, I didn't learn from Michael and Lyndon. I learned it from the people here, those who post histories and those who post personal memories and those who post local jokes l will never understand. My point is that we're TW, not the owners.

Our club has been gifted a new stadium by a schlub of an owner who wasn't remotely an Evertonian, and we will now move into a new era under an owner who likely never even heard of Everton while he was accumulating billions selling Toyotas in Alabama. Everything is about to change for the better thanks to people who couldn't sing a note of Spirit of the Blues. There's no reason TW can't thrive under such stewardship as well.

To say I am thankful and massively relieved by Tarky's thunderbolt volley leveller is a massive understatement.
To have had those vile magpie style critters, who inhabit our former nest, winning more derby games than us at our ground was an unbearable thought to me.

I was just about to leave on the 97th minute, slow walk down park stand aisle to see last minute out.

Ended up in seat in front of me when Tarkowski scored in the mayhem :-)

I thought the least we deserved was a draw, got stuck in again, and when you look at their squad, then see our two right backs Patterson and Coleman out, our rock in midfield Mangala out for rest of season, McNeil out injured, three of our strikers out injured and our most influential player Ndiaye going off in the first half, that was one hell of an effort from the players.

Also Garner and Iroegbunam not up to full speed yet with just returning from injuries.

We have been hampered with points deductions, having to sell Richarlison, Gordon and Onana, took on the supposed best team in the Country, and went toe to toe with them.

Better times ahead for sure, but it’s great being an Evertonian and watching all the whinging from the Red shites, because we dared to compete.

The upturn in form is unbelievable and stats

Dyche 19 games 3 wins, 1 point above relegation, goal difference-5

Moyes 5 games, 3 wins, 10 points above relegation, goal difference +5

Up the Toffees.

P.s bumped into John McFarlene Snr, he is still alive and kicking, and said to pass on his regards to fellow ToffeeWebbers.

Rob Dolby, thank you for your kind comments. My son is in his forties and my grandson is fifteen. They go regularly as they are members which I no longer am. However, they'd never seen a derby game live. They were ecstatic when we equalised and my grandson hugged the breath out of me. It was a wonderfully emotional game with a perfect ending. The nearly three hour drive back was full of repeated phrases of wonder and joy. The cynic in me felt that in the sixties and early seventies we'd have rarely been happy with a draw, but last night I too was delighted. I've still got quite a few friends and relatives who are reds and red season ticket holders and I haven't had the cod sympathy phone calls and texts I often get after a derby defeat. Delighted and still revelling in the delight as are my son and grandson who's almost the age I was when we won the League in 62-3. " Bliss was it in that Dawn to be alive, but to be young..."

Rick @146,

That's a great story, that will imprinted on their memories for life. A family member has a season ticket, but when the original date got called off, in his wisdom, he decided to put his seat up on the resale platform (I think). When the new date came through, he couldn't get his seat back as he received £50 for it. If I would have known, I would have stopped him at the time.

Mike the dynamics of the city are interesting when it comes to football. Mixed families, mixed areas. I wouldn't say there are specific blue and red areas. There are certain areas where one outweighs the other. Everton's traditional stronghold has tended to be the north end. As you move out to the suburbs in the south of the city, you see more red. The council estates (projects in US speak) town up just before and after WW2, tend to be reflective of people moving out from central areas of the city, so are mixed. Where I am from falls into that last category, with probably a red majority, but I am very much from a mixed family. Others may have a view on it, but that's been my experience.

Tony, I've said it before. When we win another trophy, forget Liverpool, forget Newcastle, this city and the whole of English football won't know what's hit it.

Due to my obsession with even numbers, a 10th league title, a 6th FA Cup and a 2nd European trophy. Not much to ask!!

Oh, and please, please, please, can we just win that League Cup that has irritatingly alluded us?!! It bothers me!!

Mike (150) out of interest what does schlub mean?

Paul (174), Yes Phil McNulty is a very good Evertonian but doesn’t see them through rose coloured glasses —— I had quite a few good arguements with Phil, over the phone when he worked at the Liverpool Echo. He also told me Joe Royle threatened him with some injury using a passing hedgehog at Bellefield after Phil gave Everton a bad, but true, imo, report after a poor display when Joe was manager, Phil told it as he saw it.

Bugger me Dave, I feel like I've just painted myself into a corner! If I had the money and was home, I would have loved to be an owner of ToffeeWeb, what a site, what a mad, fantastic, smart and funny fan base!
Mike, I guess what I was trying to encapsulate is the social thread that runs through the site that Michael and Lyndon understood and my fear that employees of a company with no love or affiliations of the city or the club could have or understand. TW as you rightly point out has thousands of overseas fans who would struggle to pin the city on a map, but love all things blue with a passion. So the question really boils down to this, what makes this site one of the world's best? It's leadership? It's fanbase? It's synergy between the two? Very human emotions that Lyndon and Michael brought, or is it just a fan site?

Is it time for managers to given a 'one' challenge option. If successfully upheld then the option is available for another challenge. If we had that last night then Konate is off for handball and we have a penalty. This would also stop Liverpool having excuses for Refs who are biased against them.

Did you see the stats on Oliver's red cards 5 against Arsenal, six against us, 5 against Man City and one against Liverpool in the same time frame.

Also, can anyone tell me when was the last time 'obstruction' was awarded in a game. Last night we were trying to use Beto's speed and at least one time in the first half Konate ran in front of Beto and just stopped. This prevented Beto getting to the ball when no Liverpool played was in control of the ball.

'It was a foul on Konate' - yes it was, terrible rugby league shove by Beto

'It was never a foul on Ndiaye' - you are right, he dived. Been watching videos of Suarez

'Oliver shouldn't ref us again' - yep, only Virgil Venereal Disease should only be allowed to ref your games

'It's not fair, we spent over 20 quid between us in the away end on number balloons in poundland' - defo. Your hilarity and rib-tickling humour is on a par with Tarby and Bishop. Our goal spoilt how funny you guys are.

Mike G (150), I wasn’t having a go at Charles T for joining in on the Live Forum but I still say it’s making a rod for your own back if you are going to try to put together the match report contemporaneously.

Immersing yourself in the Live Forum to acclimate yourself to the attitude of your average TW user is a bit like getting a helicopter to scoot you three quarters of the way up Everest and not going up gradually via base camp and all that - you might end up wondering how anyone survives. I know you are a Live Forum advocate but I only use it if I’ve only got a radio commentary, otherwise I find trying to keep up with the posts just distracts from actually taking in the game properly.

To me, we are all ToffeeWeb, INCLUDING the site admin.

Oliver, the new haven't even been in the realm for 2 months yet.

Unravelling what has gone on at this club for 30 years or so may take a while longer than next week.

I'm just enjoying the moment right now and looking forward to Saturday.

Tell me an owner of a business that isn't in it or doesn't invest to make money??

Christine, I don't understand why you can't represent the thoughts of Evertonians. You already do. And in a very articulate and informed way. I always enjoy reading what you have to say.

I would avoid shoehorning it into a L4/L5 requirement though.

I have my roots in L24 and L19. Other regulars on the Wirral, wider Liverpool City Region and Merseyside as well as other parts of the UK and Ireland.

And then there are the global contributors and supporters. Lyndon himself is US west coast based.

I matters not if you grew up on Scotland Road or near Country Road. We're all Evertonians.

Get writing. we need supporters like you.

Brian #161, thank you for that update on a grand and special gentleman. Spent a lovely evening in the pub with him and his nephew among many others after an Everton win. Glad he's still around.

Gerry #165, that's a brilliant article, thanks for posting. I thought I was the only one who noticed "Corner Flag Guy" -- my new hero.

Frank #184, I haven't seen it in years in a Prem game, and although I'm still an active referee I probably don't call it once a year myself.

Conor #175, well done, I'll add my oar for Christine as well.

Dave #171, schlub is Yiddish for a clumsy, talentless person, a half-wit. Similar to schlemiel, schnook and schlimazel (you may be noticing a theme here).

We could have another Moshiri on our hands for all we know.

When TFG released their short statement on the purchase of the club, I said at the time actions will speak louder than words, last night was an example of this in my opinion.

Personally, I just want Everton to be run professionally. As a football club and as a business. For too long, we've stood still and fallen behind the curve.

Leave the emotional stuff to us on match day. Let them run the business. Many called for change. We're going to get it, hopefully for the better.

Go through any of the so called big clubs and tell me owners that are supporters? Possibly Levy at Tottenham, but he's massively unpopular.

Watching the game again.

Slot lost all credibility forever by throwing his arms out in ‘amazed disappointment’ when Michael Oliver awarded us a free kick for Diaz blatantly not trying to spot where the ball was and just charging into Tarky instead.

Long time gripe. How can ex-player pundits not realise that it is exactly as much a free kick if the player who plays the ball then has to immediately take to the air simply to avoid a very painful blow to the leg(s). For the free kick that led to our first goal, Ndiaye only ended up sprawled on the turf because of the desperate evasive action he took to avoid a painful (possibly damaging) blow to his shin / ankle from MacAllister’s extended right foot. Is he seriously expected just to accept the hit to deserve the free kick. It simply is not the same as collapsing to the ground when there was never ever going to be contact. It’s embarrassing that they can’t spot the very obvious difference.

There is no insistence there has to be contact in the rules so why say it’s not a free kick just because there’s no contact?

Better than the Echo's by a mile. Ian Hargraves was as red as a ruby. Your thoughts took my emotions back to that day.

Having watched the game yet again, I fail to see how the penalty (Konate) for deliberate handball was not even considered by VAR. The one we had at Brighton, for a similar offence, but less obvious, was scrutinised, and only with the benefit of slow motion was it clear Veltman had altered the direction of the ball with his hand.

Fast Forward to Konate's deliberate handball, slow motion wasn't needed to see that the ball was contacted by his hand. It is these discrepancies and inconsistency of refereeing and VAR that is so unfair and can dictate the difference between a win and a draw, or a draw and a loss if given, to the opposition.

Theflight of the ball was changed denying a possible goal scoring chance. Deliberate or not it was a penalty. Exactly why was it not awarded?

Oliver,
I was hoping AJ Bell would take us over, local successful businessmen but in the current premier league climate every team needs a billionaire or they are going backwards.

TFG like many other owners in the prem are using the clubs as cash cows and status symbols. Lots of the owners never set foot in the country never mind the grounds.

We have to hope they bring in professionals who want the club to be the best on and off the pitch.

We don't want the likes of local boy Jim Radcliff laying off half of the staff and putting ticket prices up whilst players are on £300k a week.

Tony Abrahams
213 Posted 14/02/2025 at 11:02:03
Another thing you have got to consider Christine, is that if that happens with certain teams they surround the referee and make a much bigger issue out of it.

Last season at Anfield, Pawson said no penalty with regards the ball hitting Michael Keane’ upper arm, but they surrounded the referee and it wasn’t long before VAR made him look at it again.

It’s all about pressure, and I’m convinced the only reason N’Diaye got booked against Brighton, was because the referee didn’t really want to give the penalty but, after being forced to look at it again on the screen, he had no option, because accidental doesn’t seem to come into it anymore?

I’d have took the penalty the other night, (because of who our opponents where) but that’s wrong really because if I’m being honest I don’t think the defender handled the ball intentionally and I’d like to see the law changed.

Getting punished for something you haven’t done intentionally just doesn’t sit right with me, unless it’s handball on the line that prevents a goal, like Alan Hansel’s, all those years ago.

Above anything I want to see consistency, but the way things currently stand I believe that this is impossible?

Si Cooper
214 Posted 14/02/2025 at 11:11:42
Derek (201), it was reviewed by VAR, those penalty box incidents always are but you’ll only know if a delay / halt to the game is requested.
VAR official obviously felt it wasn’t deliberate and arm was in a natural position, which isn’t a penalty since the most recent revision to the rules.
If something happened deliberately is very difficult to judge. For me, the ball bouncing up and hitting his hand wasn’t deliberate (wasn’t avoided but that’s not demanded anymore) but if he didn’t then deliberately alter the trajectory then he got the most fortuitous ricochet imaginable. The Brighton guy was judged to have deliberately propelled the ball. I doubt you’ll ever get 100% consistency but the ball just striking the arm is no longer sufficient for free kick / penalty.

I was trying to think what made the result so great it was more than the occasion and more than snatching a result at the death.

We beat them at Anfield under Carlo and some creditable results have arrived thereafter including stopping their title challenge at Goodison.

Most neutrals say we outplayed them, it was no fluke we deserved at least a draw. And I'm not sanctimonious enough to pretend Doucouré giving it to their mob and our lads being first into the scrap and the shite losing the plot was anything less than a joy to behold.

No, I get it now. No matter how many points are deducted, how empty our coffers or how limited the team - we just don't give a fuck - we're not scared anymore.

Tony @213, it was obvious throughout the match. Almost every time the ref called a decision, he was surrounded by at least 3 of their players, with Van Dijk leading the charge. Tarkowski was there as I presume the ref wanted to speak with the captains? So why didn't he tell the others to do one?

Barry @217. I'm taking that sentiment with me tomorrow!!!

Eric @219, I've no idea how that will work. Goal line technology has done. If football hadn't royally fecked up VAR, it could have worked.

Joe Royle had their number, like all bullies they don’t like it when they are bullied back and their fans like it even less and are terrified of losing to us —So same tactics at Anfield just up the concentration and leave the mistakes out!

Your thoughts, somewhat off the beaten track. What happened to ball to hand? Having played a bit of football, and watched countless games on the tv, slow mo etc, ball to hand does happen. Isn’t it about time blatant pushing in the back gets an automatic yellow card? The rs have honed this tactic into an art form.

Also going down after any minimal contact should also be punished. So many players, when they run out of ideas/room just throw themselves to the ground to get a free kick.

Goodison was high on Emotion on Wednesday night - it was rocking, so much so that it not only affected Evertonians, it also had an effect on the RS manager.
Evertonians have Emotion in their DNA - but for those that have never felt what we feel, it affects them in different way.

So...am I misreading this part off the BBC. I get the gist of double negatives...but it seems this can be read two ways... seems both clubs didn't behave bad enough 😀

'The clubs have been charged with failing to ensure players "did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way" after the final whistle.'

Eric (219), I don’t worry about the offsides now; they take too long but they get it right the vast majority of the time.
The bots will only be doing offsides because they are not subjective. All the subjective stuff is staying with the very fallible humans for the foreseeable future.
Si Cooper

Colin (225), automatic yellow for a push? Why automatic?

Ian, it’s tortuous but it works; ensuring they behaved in an improper way would be the bad thing to do.

Fucking Gobshites.

Lets make BMD even more intimidating for them when they come next season. I'd welcome them onto the pitch with a roaring rendition of this.

You better paint your face up with your favorite disguise.

With your button down lips and your roller blind eyes.

with your empty smile and your hungry heart.

Feel the bile rising from your guilty past.

With your nerves in tatters as the cockleshell shatters.

And the hammers batter down your door.

YOU BETTER RUN !!!

Let’s not forget who started this all off, Slott in his pre match interview mention Everton players go down easy, getting right in the refs ear before the game.

Slott Fergie mind games, glad he got his red card, all sweet and jovial that shower but when the shoe is on the other foot, spit their dummies out and cannot stand a team for daring to stand up against them, the vile and bitterness and self righteous obnoxious shower the lot of them.

Oliver was awful last night, for both teams, but somehow those deluded Redshites can only see one team being the victims of a poor ref.

The very ref who has awarded Liverpool 17 penalties in his time of officiating matches with them, and out of all those games only ever sent off one player for them, for 2 yellow cards, before last nights game, no other team has received more penalties from him than them.

But the fume from them is laughable, still going on two Days later.

They remind me of the kid who takes his ball home, because he does not get his way.

Biggest, mardi arses, whinging, shithouses, loved by the media, despised by the rest of the normal match going neutral fans.

Good on Doucoure for giving it to them, and then telling Virgil to wind his neck in and be quiet.

I'm going to really miss watching Ndiaye. Everything about him. His skill, his tenacity, his hard work, his passion, his drive, his fearlessness.

It looks like we'll be safe this season so no reason to rush him back. You have to love a player like him who demands the ball and is willing attack the opposition like he did whilst on the pitch on Wednesday.

The difficulty is that we don't meet the Shite in the final game at Goodison very often and snatch a dramatic equaliser in added, added on time.

Don't know how we replicate that and I don't really care about social media hits cos it only lasts for 48hrs.

Moving up the league, playing better football...now that's what I call "something of note"

Jarrad Branthwaite’s game by numbers vs. Liverpool:

100% aerial duels won

100% tackles won

60 total touches

16 clearances

7/11 long passes

10 passes into the final third

2 shots blocked

1 assist

0 x dribbled past

A top performance.

Who remembers Slippy scoring and running along the Bullens Road stand with his hand cupped to his ear and his tongue sticking out and delighting in taunting us Blues. Did a fight break out, did a bottle get thrown ? Nah and Duncan played in that game !

Curtis Jones caused all the trouble because he couldn't take us drawing with them. God knows what would have happened if we had deservedly won.

What a way to end the final Goodison derby, unbelievable emotion. I am still as high as a kite and can’t wait for the game tomorrow nor can I wait for the Analfield Derby, bring it on.

I wasn’t sure at all about Moysie’s return but after his reaction to the game on Wednesday I am completely sold. He is one us, to me that is 100% obvious.

Let’s kick on and remind the football world what this, the greatest club of them all, is all about. A lot of neutrals have voiced their delight at the late equaliser, we need to make the most of it.

Wow! Does it feel so good to be a blue and see those moaning red gobshite twats have a meltdown.

Note to new owners. I presume you want this site to be successful? Since you took over the site, the number of posts have been reducing on a daily basis and no doubt, the number of visitors to the site likewise. If you want any return on your investment you need to up your game. People are already leaving this site in their droves.

No proper match reports, no pre-match threads, and what's with the awful pictures being used; things like screenshots, or those terrible meme-style ones? Are we being run by teenagers now?

I think without Ndaiye we will have little craft unless Charley is played and might fit in until Ndaiye returns,we still have a pretty good defence so we will make it hard for Palace to score and we are still capable of providing a couple of chances so let’s come away with at least a point.

If the editors are reading, I think we would all appreciate some form of update on the direction you want to take this site.

I appreciate, there may well be a change of direction, however the lack of content and the sparsity of communication is deafening.

There is no reason that non-Evertonians can't run an Everton website. Our present owners are US based and not Evertonians.

Seriously, we don't want to see a forum that has brought so many people together.

I do not wish to be patronising, but if you are struggling, please reach out. There of contributors on here, who are good with the pen (or keyboard), extremely knowledgeable about Everton, understand Evertonians and who, with editorial rights, could assist. I'm not talking every single poster, that will obviously continue, just one or two volunteers.

It would be a shame to lose this. I think most aren't resistant to change, but right now, you are losing some valuable supporters of this site.

After digesting the aftermath of the game and all the furore over "our Cup Final" gibes etc from Liverpool fans. I have my own opinions. These are the fans of course who were celebrating themselves like it was 1999 when they took the lead. I have to ask How good actually are they?
The media and their fans make out that they are the best in the World. Personally I have seen better sides at Goodison this season in the Premier league, Forest for example.
They should win the league but not by much. They will not win anything else.
Not a patch on a few other sides they have had in the past.
Supporters are continuing their tradition though.

With only thirteen fit first team players it will be a hard slog today and the subs bench will be minus players who can do a job Moyes might have to use one of the keepers in an unusual position unless he puts one of them in goal and puts Jordan in central midfield where he can encourage all the other players to give a little bit more!

Sean 325, I've had to compile my own team news for today and that's not right.

The headline from Moyes’ pre-match press conference was confirmation that liman Ndiaye injury is serious.

knee ligament damage probably out for a number of weeks.

David Moyes expects to have just 13 senior outfield players to choose from for the Crystal Palace game

but it will be without several key stars as injuries continue.

While Ndiaye has joined a long list of attacking absentees, there had been hope that the squad would receive reinforcements at the back.

Moyes said both Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson, whose outlook was better than some of their injured team mates they, are unlikely to be available for the Palace game. Coleman remains out with a calf issue and Patterson is dealing with a hamstring problem.

While the pair are close to recovering, the question for Moyes is whether he will see any of his other injured stars return before the international break in March.

Dwight McNeil (knee), Armando Broja (ankle), Youssef Chermiti (thigh) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) are all dealing with long-term problems while Oriel Mangala’s season ended with the the anterior cruciate ligament damage suffered in the win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Any team in the premier League top or bottom would take a draw and a point, and I expect Moyes to tell his team the same then go again for the Man utd game at Goodison park.

Everton possible starting lineup:

Pickford; O'Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Garner, Alcaraz, Harrison; Beto

I think that team picks itself, no other options, Tim and Young on the bench plus 2 keepers, Keane, Sheriff.. and…two other youngsters.

Cmon guys. Enough of the sarky comments. Let's give the new non-evertonian, non-pre match posters, absentee landlords a chance. Either that or bring back that AI dude.

It's pretty disappointing that the new site owners have no pre-match thread. I'm prepared to give the new guys a chance but the site is poor and, unfortunately so is Evertonia

James I remember I was in my brothers snooker club in Old Swan. Myself and three brothers had to leave the snooker and go watch the last ten minutes. Arsenal scored the winner and us four were the only ones cheering and screaming, all the others were reds including a large Alsatian dog, with a red rose on its collar that took umbridge to my brother cheering and proceeded to seperate him from his nuts. Thankfully we escaped from the mob and laughed all the way home, happy days.

Where’s the match preview?

Where’s the post-Derby write-up, addressing the red cards, potential actions the FA will take etc?

Is this actually an Everton FC site?!

Surprised very little has been made of Seamus paying for the flights of that young lad from Australia, who missed the original derby match, to see Wednesday's re-arranged game.

Scott (331) It’s DIY until the editors sort themselves out, if you’ve got a point of view put it on the nearest thread and others will add to it like I’ve just added to yours,it will all come together in the end and Arsenal have just won so that will put a smile on your face and tomorrow we might be worrying over whether to laugh or cry when Wolves fuck Liverpool!

Mike (327), I was talking to Brian Labone in Old Hall St. the day of the Liverpool v Arsenal game and he had tenner on Arsenal to win 2-0 at 14-1, he hated Liverpool as much as any of us!

Dave #334

For the Michael Thomas goal, I was on holiday in the ROI. In the b+b, they had a sedate parlour / TV room. When that goal went in, me and my Dad went mad.

And these two unrelated elderly American tourists - who did not have a clue what was going on - joined in.

Your Brian Labone story reminds me of 85-86 when we beat The RS 2-0 at their place.

I just happened to run into Frank Worthington outside Goodison that day. He was on his way to the match.

Got his autograph and he asked me what the score would be.

I said 2-0 to us. (but didn’t have a tenner on it sadly!)

Didn’t Brian Labone used to own a race horse called “Goodison”?

No AI my arse! This whole article reeks of AI, its clear as day!…. Such is the size of the mighty premier league that our beloved ToffeeWeb got bought out 😔 probably somebody trying to push a certain agenda and suppress even more emotions. Cue the snowflake AI chat monitor any day now to stop us swearing or saying anything “mean” in the comments… my guess is that the club itself (Friedkin etc) bought the site and will use it to push their agenda and suppress any negative feelings etc.. Modern Football Suppresses Emotion…. Need west ham to lose, and spurs/Man U to draw tomorrow then we go above them all with a palace win… TFG’s moles will give themselves away over time with defensive comments and attempts to quell any unrest 🧐 .. Its very strange that there's been nothing from the site owners.
At the very least come on and explain why there's no current information on the game today.

Beats me, it makes no sense whichever way you look at it.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

As a matter of interest, to a bit of a technophobe like me, what does AI actually smell/reek of. I know some of you better versed on here discuss the nuances but what do you look out for? - besides a certain lack of emotion or empathy which I notice.

Shame we aren't getting a bit more feedback from the new custodians, and I think I can include TFG in that.

Mike (337), I’m not sure if Brian owned that horse or had a share in it.

Frank Worthington a very good player, a maverick who did his own thing, came to Liverpool FC to sign for them but failed the medical, he said later he failed the medical because his blood pressure was sky high with the excitement of signing for them! Glad he never because of his ability.

Always remember that goal as a kid Dave when he flipped the ball over his head and then volleyed it in, can’t remember who it was against. Always thought he looked like Lemmy.

Dave 343. This is from Brian's wife Pat.
Brian bought a beautiful chestnut racehorse and named him Goodison; at one time he held the course record at Ayr. He was stabled on the Wirral at Colin Crossley's and we would go along every weekend and feed him Polo mints and make a fuss of him. He had nine or 10 wins in his time but we never saw one of them. We did see him come second a few times, and it got to the point where people would ask us to stay away when he was running because we were such a jinx. He lasted for quite a few years and then came the fateful day at Market Rasen. It was his first or second time over the sticks, he fell and broke a fetlock and they shot him on the track. We were devastated because he was such a big part of our lives. We didn't know until it was too late, but they're allowed to take that decision without the owner's permission. It depends on the break but a horse can nearly always get better although it's a long process and they could never run again.

Nigel. Frank's goal against Ipswich for Bolton 78 79. Brilliant.
I used to practice the move on Laxey beach I o m and used it in games in the manx League if I wasn't getting kicked stupid by the giant centre backs who I was convinced had kegs of beer up the shirts.

Kim # 342… the lack of emotion, such as not mentioning our fans in any way or how much they celebrated the goal etc. or the atmosphere at the ground… all it says about Tarky scoring is “sending Goodison into Chaos”… that it. The article reads like a robot wrote it (or a Yank), but not a blue. It’s cold and emotionless, much like modern football strives to be. No mention of the crowd on the pitch during celebrations…

then for the ending it says “ The closing minutes were chaotic, with heated exchanges between players and a few red cards handed out by referee Mark Oliver.”… what the fuck is that except suppressing anyone’s negative or charged feelings?! No mention of what actually happened in the fracas?… no mention of Arnie Slut’s I’ll temper toward the ref and how he was sent off!!!! Obviously because the PL (worlds biggest sports league) and thus the internet is biased towards the shite and if AI wrote an article the algorithm would lend itself to not painting the shite in a bad light… Bollocks to it all. They are dumbing us down…. Not mentioning how Douc runs over to their fans and gives it large is classic woke AI suppressing anyone’s negative bad feelings and hiding anything that might ruffle feathers. Oh god forbid anybody’s feelings gets hurt… It’s just very Vanilla.

Just to put a bit of perspective on this agenda about where people come from.
I was born and bred around St Anne Street. 20 minute walk to both grounds. 8 of us in the family. Dad a red, mum a blue. First born a red, second born a blue then red blue blue blue but not a hint of animosity between us. I love them all.
I went to Anfield as a kid with my beautiful elder red sister and had the fortune of watching Johan Cruyf play at Anfield. I was lucky to see that and a few others.
Something drew me to Everton and I have little animosity towards my red neighbours apart from opinions. We always generally got on very well as we did with the Geordie’s and a few others. I know it’s changing but for fucks sake let’s just try to get along. Mancs were obviously hated but as you get older even that disappears too. As my dad used to say. We fought world wars together and need to have lots of friends regardless of where they’re from.
What are we without rivalry? It’s healthy.
I’m now in Adelaide for the weekend watching the LIV golf which itself has caused an unhealthy rivalry between rich sportsmen. That’s about money though whereas ours is about importance. Bollocks I say. Let’s talk about, argue a bit and then agree to disagree. Common enemy is the cnuts who are ruining football with stupid VAR and dickhead commentators suggesting that players are entitled to go down because there was contact! Grow a pair of balls and get on with the game.
This weekend I have drank and shared chats with people from all over the world and I really find it hard to believe that we can’t all get along and share a common interest in life. Football is only one of them.
On the site. I do hope that the new owners take an interest in the club and not just become the modern equivalent of faceless shareholder types who are in for profit only. If they are then let’s stick together, shut up shop and get rid of them.
COyB
