Season › 2024-25 › News “He has nearly single-handedly saved this club” - Tim Howard waxes lyrical about Jordan Pickford Anjishnu Roy 01/03/2025 0comments | Jump to last Greatness recognises greatness, they say. Former Everton number one Tim Howard heaped praise on current Toffees goalie Jordan Pickford and called him world-class. Howard, with over 400 appearances for the Blues, says Pickford “has been nothing short of sensational” and finds him delightful. “Jordan Pickford is world-class, he’s been nothing short of sensational. He has been a brilliant servant to this club, he’s nearly single-handedly saved this club. What he is to this country as England’s number one, I’m delighted to be around him to pick his brain and to watch him. I can never get enough of Jordan Pickford, he’s fantastic,” he told The Big Interview. Pickford, who signed for Everton in 2017, has been one of the most important players for the Toffees in the current era. He has helped them ward off several relegation battles and despite being number 1 choice on the international arena for England, his loyalty to the Blues has been unwavering. Last season, Pickford’s resilience in front of goal helped Everton stay up despite the points deductions. He also made an instrumental save off James Maddison from the penalty spot the year before to salvage a point in a crucial game against Leicester City while a save off Cesar Azpilicueta in the 1-0 win over Chelsea the season prior led to former boss Frank Lampard calling it the save of the Premier League era. He’s also been on song this season and Everton have conceded 34 goals off 27 matches in the league this season - only Crystal Palace (33) have better defensive numbers in the bottom half of the table.
