U21s beaten by Fulham

New Under-21s acquisition Brendan Galloway scored his first goal in Everton colours but it ended up being mere consolation as David Unsworth's side lost 2-1 at Fulham.

Goals by Marcelo Trotta and Tu-Na Bangna put the Cottagers' second-string into a 2-0 lead and while Galloway pulled one back with a second-half header and George Green hit the post late, the Blues couldn't salvage a draw.

Everton: Griffiths, Jones, Kenny, Ledson, Pennington, Galloway, Byrne, Williams, Long, Dowell, Hope
Subs: McLaughlin, Walsh, Green, C.Duffus, Stanek

On paper looked liked a fairly strong side for us, but without seeing the game it's difficult to criticise or apportion the result to bad luck, or whatever.

At least our new acquisition Brendan Galloway scored and according to the brief report we could have equalised. It's still early in the programme and will serve to learn from the experience.

Nice to see Kieran Dowell getting a first start at 16. He seems to be highly rated with lots of potential.
Fulham are one of the best U21 teams , will be interesting to read reports and see some highlights,

It's a very young U21 team with mostly 16-18 yr olds. Think there are some top players in this crop. Interesting that Browning and Duffy are not playing, perhaps they will be out on loan.

Yes Phill. Dowell appears to be very skilful.

Maybe Dowell has surpassed George Green!!!

Green was said to be a potential world-beater...

Sorry to sound the xenophobe but, if it is any consolation, Galloway is English and the rest of our team are British. Marcelo Trotta and Bangna are assuredly not. So there. Moral victory. Yeah.

It was only towards the end of last season that Martinez was praising Green as a player he loves. Talk is the Green like Barkley needs to go out on loan get some first team experience before coming back a "man".

First I've heard of Dowell, fantastic if we've another class act coming through.

A quick google search and I found this.

Clearly one to watch when being picked out alongside Ledson.

"Ross Barkley is a rare talent but still needs longer to develop, and beyond him you'll be hearing the names Kieran Dowell and Ryan Ledson in the future, Everton's Academy continuing to compensate for lack of transfer funds."

Steve - Tim Cahill said that Kieran Dowell was the best young player Everton had. Let's hope he fulfils all his potential. Interesting to see Griffiths got a start for this game in goal.
